Hi eds, how real is our interest in Luuk De Jong? Chance we could see him being brought in January? Also, what is happening with that young lad Polo? {Ed002's Note - There is real interest in de Jong. Although Arsenal, Liverpool, Athletico Madrid, Udinese, Palermo, Genoa and PSV showed an interest, it seems most likely Andy Polo will complete his move to Schalke, although I hear that Hamburg may make one final attempt to sign him. But that may all change.}

I know it's just banding names about, but is there any real interest (and intent) with regard to Shaqiri of Basel?

Any feedback would be great eds.

Cheers {Ed001's Note - not since Roy left, as far as I know anyway.}

any chance of getting scott sinclair

He isn't that good. One good game and all are wanting him. There are many better options available.

Hi Ed's & Reds,
There is some paper talk about Arsenal bidding big for Mario Gotze.
Have Liverpool ever shown any interest in him?
As a part from the massive price tag he fits the bill perfectly, young, talented, fair amount of experience, an around midfielder i.e. Gerrard replacement.
Personally if I where FSG I would be looking at a lot of German players. Ok it's going to be a different story if we get champions league but still you can't wait for every other club to make there moves.

Marklfc {Ed002's Note - No. Arsenal, Manchester United and Barcelona have already been knocked back by his club and Goetze himself has made it abundantly clear that he wants to stay at Dortmund for this season, although no doubt a very significant offer would be listened to. Real Madrid may be able to persuade him to move. He has identified his favourite teams as Barcelona and Arsenal. There is also interest also from AC Milan - and I suspect that they are shifting their interest in Ganso or Fernando to Goetze due to persisting non-EU quota issues. There may be some, so far unpublisized, interest from elsewhere announced soon.}

Any move for a non eu player will be dependant on Pato or Yepes being moved on as Milan are ready to listen to offers. Although I suspect a move for Goetze or Ganso may be hampered by the recent tightening of purse strings at Milan.

Heard an interesting rumour today, heard representatives from Liverpool have watched Ricardo Quaresma recently playing for Besiktas!

Rocky

I hope not... he's pants!

Oh that old chestnut.... just like Simao, Aguero and Taribo West... they do call this silly season don't they?

Ed, Do you think Liverpool will sign a replacement for Lucas when the window opens or do you think we will stay with what we have? {Ed009's Note - I imagine we will stay with what we have, unless a good prospect becomes available who could, long term, become Gerrard's replacement as well. Sissoko could again be an option.}

Javi Martinez, Sissoko, M-Vila, Eriksen, Gotze, Lucas (Sao Paulo), Pastore, yada yada yada....

01 Dec 2011 19:30:39
Any chance of Kheidra (spelling?) on loan or purchased? Not really favour at Madrid......but also begs the question, will we try for Alonso, not that Madrid would let him go just yet?

+Ozred-

Neither of these two will be allowed to leave. Despite his lack of appearances he is very much a mourinho favourite at madrid.

Rewflo {Ed002's Note - Khedira is available.}

How much would Khedira cost?

01 Dec 2011 19:26:33
Who so you think would be a great replacement for Lucas and who is the mostly we will get, thanks Ed {Ed001's Note - Coady, not sure yet.}

Good shout Ed. I was about to post about Coady so glad I scrolled down and seen your comment first.

We're being linked with Lucas ocampos, dubbed as new Ronaldo. Reminds me of Houllier's time, when we could have had Ronaldo on our side, but things didn't went our way. I don't know much of this guy though, but hope, if he is to become great, we'd be signing him. YNWA

Glad we DIDN'T get Ronaldo - skillful, but a complete prima-donna lady-boy i.e. not really our sort of player.

No offence (some of my best friends are lady-boys etc etc)

Get well soon Lucas - gonna miss you in t'middle...

Raised Eyebrow

I live in canada at the mo and have been watchin the mls out of pure boredom at times and this kid is one of the few good players ive seen, his technique is immense his work rate is excellent and has an eye for goal could be one for the future indeed

Mr canada what u on about the mls? he plays in argentina

He plays for River Plate, friend. and thats in Argentina 2nd div atm. He isn't playing in MLS. lolz.

01 Dec 2011 17:40:19
Eds do you think Aquilani could be recalled back due to Lucas' injury? {Ed001's Note - no.}

01 Dec 2011 16:43:24
Liverpool are looking at Fernando Reges {Ed002's Note - No they are not, but it may not be a bad idea to do so. Fernando is an excellent player and one that both Chelsea and Inter Milan maintain a strong interest in. Chelsea tried to bring Fernando in the summer, which would ironically have resulted in Meireles probably staying at Liverpool but Porto were obviously very much against AVB cherry picking players. He would be a great buy.}

Do you think there is a chance that liverpool will sign him in january? {Ed001's Note - considering he just said we weren't even looking at him, I would say that is a no wouldn't you?}

I looked him up and he seems as a brilliant player! What do you think he will cost?

What would be the asking price for him do you feel?

{Ed002's Note - The Porto player holds a Brazilian passport but AC Milan may challenge Chelsea and Inter Milan for the player at around £20M. Porto are keen to hold on to the player and will attempt to turn down any January bids. AC Milan would need to give up one non-EU player (probably Mario Yepes) to bring Fernando in and may chose to figure out if a deal could be done for Ganso or Goetze instead.}

Ed's, with the news of Lucas' injury, a MF in January looks considerably more likely than before.

Top of the list seems to be Moussa Sissokho (spelling).

I have said before, I don't watch French football, so could you help me out and give me a bit of an insight into the player?

It would be appreciated.

Thanks, James. {Ed002's Note - Sure. Toulouse's Moussa Sissoko is a fine player and has attracted interest from Lyon, Roma, Genoa, Juventus, Liverpool and probably Napoli. Arsenal and Milan's previous interest waned over the summer. Damien Comolli let Sissoko's agent know that Liverpool see his man as the ideal long-term replacement for Steven Gerrard but for some reason Liverpool failed to make the final push in the summer. Sissoko is available but both Roma and Lyon appear to have the edge over other interested clubs and as far as I know at the moment Liverpool have yet to follow up their previous interest.}

Cheers for the response Ed002, lots of info there.

I was also hoping you tell me what kind of a player he is.

I've heard a lot of rave reviews about him, but never seen him play, the most I know is that he is pretty fast and pretty strong - but this is coming from FIFA 12!

I tried searching on YouTube, but of course that doesn't give a fair representation of a player, so if you could tell me a bit more about him, his key attributes, his style of play etc.

Again, it would be appreciated.

Thanks, James.

Heard rumours about Leroy Fer is being watched ? Is he a good player? {Ed002's Note - He is not a defensive player at all, but has a growing reputation as a decent midfield player. He has only been at Twente since the summer and I have to say this is very speculative at present.}

Okay tanks just wondering

He is like lucas in the sense that hes an attaking midfielder by trait but is also know for hes tackling, strong physic and ball distribution and is likened to patrick vieira.

01 Dec 2011 16:18:58
hi eds,fellow reds
do you know what the situation is with yann Mvilla and if hes available, and if he is, do liverpool still have any interest in him as was reported over the summer, would be a great addition to the sqaud aswell as competition 4 lucas when back fit again..

RED4lifeNOTjust4XMAS {Ed002's Note - Inter, Arsenal, Manchester United, Manchestewr City, Juventus, Genoa and perhaps Liverpool & Chelsea showed an interest or enquired about M'Vila this past summer. M'Vila will almost certainly not move until the summer. A very significant bid from Manchester City has already been turned down. With that offer that was made for M'Vila in the summer Rennes have upped their valuation of the player to an extent where Creachcadec has said no Italian team can aford M'Vila. I would expect that there may be interest in him from PSG and possibly Real Madrid by the time he comes up for sale in the summer. I would be astonished if M'Vila moved in January. Price will be a significant issue for Liverpool.}

01 Dec 2011 16:05:36
eds ! who is more likely to sign for us as a right sided SS/Winger ?

and is there any chance of signing juan manuel vargas ? {Ed002's Note - It is not possible to say who is the most likely striker to sign, but I am sure one will. J-M Vargas, no. Eduado Vargas, perhaps.}

01 Dec 2011 15:50:16
Leroy Fer is being looked at now.

01 Dec 2011 15:32:59
Any chance of signing M'Villa given the now confirmed extent of the injury to Lucas if Spearing is not deemed good enough to keep the position in the absence of Lucas? {Ed002's Note - The price of M'Vila may be prohibitive.}

In this situation i dont see the price being an issue, hes 21 and already a full international, and possibly the future of french football, i can see this happening, it all falls into the criteria of the type of players john henry are looking for, also the with the way things are going with gerrard i can see this happening.
Jaydee YNWA {Ed002's Note - M'Vila will almost certainly not move until the summer. A very significant bid from Manchester City has already been turned down. Thanks for the reply Ed. I thought the price would be high too but I didnt know it was man city who made that big bid for him as the press made it seem like it was arsenal. How much was the bid by the way? {Ed002's Note - I don't know how much it was but it was (a) made by a third party on behalf of Manchester City, (b) verbal, and (c) too late in the transfer window for Rennes to bring anyone in.}

Just another 30 days to go, we will see

Is there any chance of Lassana Diarra coming in January to fill in for Lucas! Sounds like a good shout to me. {Ed002's Note - Lassano Diarra is playing fairly regular at Real Madrid but still may be moving in January or the summer. Anzhi have made a very significant offer but I understand Roma are very interested in the player and the player is open to a move to Rome.}

Whats up with roma dont they have gago aswel?

01 Dec 2011 14:44:30
Eds,
is Jadson a main target for us in jauary? {Ed002's Note - Jadson very nearly joined Arsenal in the summer and at 28 and with Shakhtar out of the Champions League a move would not be a surprise. However, reported interest seems to be based on speculation at this time.}

01 Dec 2011 13:54:43
Hi eds,
Is there a chance of signing ocampous in january and what do you know about this player? {Ed002's Note - Probably not. River Plate's Lucas Ocampos has been looked at by a number of sides with Bayern Munich and Chelsea maintaining an interest. I understand that Diego Caniggia took a look on behalf of Liverpool but it was decided that he would be too expensive to buy and that seems to have ended any brief interest that Liverpool had. Inter Milan, Sevilla and Palermo have also shown an interest and Juventus (not either of the MIlan clubs) made a bid of $15.5M.}

01 Dec 2011 13:20:21
Eds would it be fair to say that if vallencia doesnt qualify for next round our chanes of getting soldado in jan would increase considerably? {Ed002's Note - Certainly Liverpool have shown some interest in Soldado who is having a good season but his availability in January is by no means certain. If Valencia progress in the Champions League he may wish to see the season out. At about 25M euro he would not be cheap.}

01 Dec 2011 13:15:49
Any chance of christian erikkson he is pure genius similar to iniesta :) {Ed002's Note - Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea and AC Milan have shown an interest in Eriksen. He has already rejected both Manchester City and Chelsea but AC Milan remain the most interested club. Back in mid July someone from the Milan Press Office said he had heard of interest from Manchester United - but I am not aware of any confirmation of that interest. I doubt that January is an option for a move to Liverpool, but perhaps the summer. The player has expressed an interest to move to Spain.}

Hey Eds,

been following the discussions on the rumours page and wondered for your insight now that Lucas has been injured.
Early reports have suggested that he is out for around 6months, and on the Sky Sports website it states that shelvy has been recalled from blackpool although they also suggest that Holloway would like him to go back in Jan for the rest of the season.
Is this recall to have him available to reinforce the midfield in Lucas absence.
The Eds have also stated in previous comments that there will be little January movement unless other clubs offer for the players we are interested in, or if players leave or are injured.

Could Shelvey be used until a replacement is found in January and sent back to Blackpool, or could this prompt a move for the midfield signings we are already considering such as Sissoko? any opinions if this would fast track any signings being considered or is it too early to tell?

Kenny has allowed youngsters a lot of playing time since his return but, understandably, hasnt relied upon them to be playing first choice every week in the Prem. however with Adam, Henderson, Shelvy, Spearing and possibly Gerrards return could there just be a rotation of players over the next few months to cover for Lucas, and Shelvy would then remain for the rest of the season? None of these however offer the defensive security Lucas has provided this season.

Also, what are the Clubs views of Wilson. There has been discussion for a new CB to replace Carra over the next season or two, and its fair to say that Carras legs are not what they where. Does this mean there will still be few chances for Wilson to make the step up, or is he still being considered for the months and years to come? obviously he was bought under the Hogson regime, and is one of the few left from that time? Does Kenny rate him or is he not considered good enough?

SGW
{Ed002's Note - Shelvy has certainly been recalled to add cover in midfield and I suspect that over the next few weeks both he and Spearing will be given an opportunity to play in the first team. Subsequently the management team may make a move for another player but it is too early to say what will then happen to Shelvy. Moussa Sissoko is a player that Comolli was very interested in during the summer but I guess that Dalglish was not as no move was made. He would not be bought as a replacement for Lucas but could potentially arrive at somepoint anyway. Wilson may well get a chance to go on loan. With Skrtel, Agger, Carragher, Wilson, Kelly and Coates I really don't see a need for another centre back right now.}

Thanks Ed002, appreciate your view.
Just wondering, if Comolli is a fan of sissoko, but Daglish isnt, as Comolli's role, is that only an advisory position or could he force a move to be made for the player? As of yet, any concerns about conflict between his and the mangers role has not occured, but if Daglish is not interested, does that mean that any interest in sissoko may die down and other targets considered instead. {Ed002's Note - My understanding is the final say on whether to ask the Board to consider a player is with Dalglish. But no doubt they would discuss any player in detail before making a request to the board.}

From what I remember reading at the time, Wilson was signed on Kenny's recommendation. Just to point out that he wasn't chosen by Hodgson!

Hi All

Have heard that with Lucas apparently it is currently too swollen to properly examine but they think it could be ligament damage and initial rough estimates are 3-4 months out.

Cheers
Ilium

If its swollen, it won't be ruptured as fluid that causes swelling would drain away so might not be as bad as it could have been... i think... i hope

01 Dec 2011 11:57:43
hi, are we interested in getting junior hoilett in january? exactly what we need - pace and skill. hope spurs don't get him. thanks! {Ed002's Note - I don't know of any interest from Liverpool at this time. Spurs, Newcastle, Stoke and possibly Aston Villa have been interested - plus a couple of clubs from Germany.}

Where would he play in spurs team

01 Dec 2011 10:38:29
Ed i saw that talksport and reporting that dortmand want jovetic in jan if gotze or kagawa leave. Even though he signed a new contract they say he may leave. Do you think there is any chance we may go for him? {Ed002's Note - Jovetic has signed a five year extension at Fiorentina so a January move seems unlikely. Arsenal did show previous interest, but both Chelsea and Napoli remain interested if and when he becomes available. The player seemingly wishes to see out the season in Florence. I don't see any move from Liverpool happening.}

01 Dec 2011 10:30:56
Hi Ed, not quite sure how long Lucas Leiva will be out for. We should get a good quality defensive midfielder in Jan. Got any ideas. {Ed002's Note - Not right now.}

01 Dec 2011 09:50:10
ed i hear this rumour that liverpool could get hazard in a a player swap in exchange for joe cole plus a certain sum of money. tell me ed how likely is it for this deal to succeed. {Ed002's Note - Unless an extraordinary bid is made in January, Eden Hazard will not be available to the summer. Real Madrid or Barcelona is his preferred destination. PSG, Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Inter Milan are all interested to one degree or another. I said over the summer that I would not be surprised to see Manchester United through their hat in to the ring with Hazard as well. I don't see Hazard moving to Liverpool, Juventus, AC Milan or Arsenal for that matter. Chelsea have maintained a long-term interest but one particularly influential party at the club sees the player as having an attitude problem.}

Surprise surprise ed002 i thought chelsea would be in the running why dont you rule them out like?hazard wont go to anyone whos not in the champions league..and looking at it at the moment chelsea have no chance......just my opinon

wildRED {Ed002's Note - I have explained the situation truthfully. I would recommend you just skipping over anything I write rather than having any sort of dig - which will no doubt just piss me off and lead to a ban for you.}

So if anyone gives there opinion that you dont agree with gets banned arnt we here to have discussions and give opinions and discuss transfer rumours?it just always seems you think liverpool have no chance and chelsea do, even though at present chelsea isnt half the team liverpool is and with no garauntee of top 6 let alone champions league! its just what i feel is the truth,just as what you say claims to be the truth..i always look forward to you answering questions than any other red because you seem to know your stuff but some things you say at times sound very hypercritical..no hard feelings.

wildRED {Ed001's Note - you are completely missing the point, Chelsea have more chance because they pay much higher wages. If you fail to understand that and end up annoying Ed002 with stupid replies because you fail to understand, then that is your problem.}

Thats all fair enough then but its the 1st ive been told about wages i just assumed it was about champions league...soory ed002 for missunderstanding.

wildRED {Ed002's Note - No problem.}

01 Dec 2011 09:38:32
eds talking about the striker......is soldado our first preference or podalski? {Ed002's Note - Certainly Liverpool have shown some interest in Soldado who is having a good season but his availability in January is by no means certain. If Valencia progress in the Champions League he may wish to see the season out. At about 25M euro he would not be cheap. I don't see any chance of Podolski going to a club where he cannot be sure of a starting place - it could well put his international career at risk. Spurs and Arsenal have shown an interest but he could decide to move to Turkey with Galatasary or possibly Russia with interest from several clubs including Anzhi and Zenit. If he does move to England, Arsenal is certainly the most likely destination. Luuk De Jong is another option at the moment.}

The idea that Podolski or Soldado wouldn't be our first choice striker is absurd.

if either of them sign, we should play a 4-3-3 with our front three being, no question, Bellamy-Suarez-Soldado/Poldoski.

01 Dec 2011 04:17:49
Is Juan Agudelo highly rated? We having coming on a trial. {Ed002's Note - You are right he is due to arrive for his trial this week. I know little of of him although he has been playing regularly in the MLS this season - and doing well by all accounts.}

He's the brightest young attacking talent the States has right now. Better than Brek Shea, in my opinion. I watch as much of our national team as possible, of course, but I'm not QUITE sure he's good enough to make it. He has a lot of time on his hands, though, being I believe only 18 or 19. He works hard like Suarez, gets into the little positions where he's needed. Good on the ball.

McSnuggles

He looks a very good player with a tremendous experience in the MLS and US national team this guy is a what we want.

I herd hes not coming to trial but just to train {Ed002's Note - The difference being?}

If he impresses when would we sign him jan?

Juan Agudelo, of USA?? This guy is good, as far as I have heard. They think quite high of him in USA.

In my opinion the MLS is only as strong as the likes of League 1 in England.

I wouldn't get your hopes up.

RobbehLFC.

I have watched him play several times. He is a very young player with a ton of talent always seems to be in a dangerous position putting a lot of pressure on the opposing defense. But he squanders his opportunities sometimes definitely not a clinical finisher yet. IF we did sign him he wouldn't make the first team for a few years.

www./en-us/news/1614/americans-abroad/2011/11/30/2782186/red-bulls-striker-juan-agudelo-set-to-train-with-liverpool

says here he's only coming here to train. other players from US are training with prem clubs too. but i dont know whats the difference between 'training' and 'trial'.

Kaizer

He's still young but shows tons of potential. He's a hard worker and hes been developing under Thierry Henry at Reds Bulls. I don't see him being ready for the EPL for a few years but Liverpool's interest in Agudelo and U-17 captain Marc Pelosi can provide a useful link to American footballers
