A question for ED2.

Not a rumour, but curious how would you rate a Liverpool move for Tammy Abraham?

I know he's not as glamorous a signing as fans would want, but I think he'd represent a good option.

He's a number 9, different from Firmino but can still link up play. He is tall, quick, touch is decent, could be more clinical but is a goal getter and an aerial threat.

He has terrific work ethic, is young and homegrown too. I think as a rotational striker with a view to being a solid number 9 if he kicks on under Klopp. Wouldn't break the bank and has PL experience.

What do you think, and where do you think he will move?

Cheers

{Ed002's Note - Although interest has been declared in Abraham by three sides already and there are another three who have made general enquiries, none of this involves Liverpool at this time.}

When you say “wouldn’t break the bank”. How much is he listed at? I think he’ll cost more then you give credit. Home grown. English. Sell to rival. All adds up on top of the fact he’s proven.
If Awoniyi is finally allowed to play here. I’d rather give him a chance. Costs nothing. Has scored all around Europe. I don’t know but am confident he’s scored more than Origi is the last 3 seasons. Total guess.

We don't need to sign players just on the criteria that they are english and available.

Not good enough sorry and never will be.

You'd almost think I didn't just list a whole bunch of attributes/ characteristics in a paragraph?!

All you heard was English and available?

I agree he would be an asset and he's proven he can score goals in the PL but I unfortunately don't see us moving for him. Someone like Villa would probably do him good as he would play every week.

A question for the eds or anyone else that might have seen him play, Awoniyi, i've just seen he's been granted a work permit for next season, is he expected to leave or be a part of the squad? Has anyone seen him play while he's been on loan? I don't know a great deal about this lad at all, any info?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Taiwo Awoniyi (S) Doing pretty well in Germany and a buyer will be able to be found there at the right price - and Union Berlin are open to taking him but say Liverpool will need to halve their asking price.}

18 May 2021 10:35:35
He was once seen as a future star in the game when he helped Nigeria to the u17 world cup whilst he himself was still only 15.

He's never really settled anywhere since with Liverpool packing him off on various loans across Europe with little regard or plan for his future.

Seems to have finally found a club that he fits at this time so hopefully Liverpool do the right thing and let him go for a reasonable price, instead of wrecking his career further.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool have asked for €10M from UB.}

18 May 2021 11:04:49
10 mil? Geez i was expecting you to say 5 mil and Union would be getting a fair price for half of that.

Thanks for the responses, another one on the list of messed about young players then, its a habit it seems with us.

Hows he been messed around? He's picked up some great experience in different leagues. The lack of a work permit hasn't helped.

If he is good why don't we give him a go?

Agree1 Disagree0

18 May 2021 15:43:20
He hasn't picked up great experience though. He was sent to Frankfurt, then Nijmegen, the Mouscron, then Gent, then Mouscron again, then Mainz, and finally Union Berlin. 6 different clubs in 7 seasons across 4 different leagues.

He's never been allowed time to settle because he's basically been sent to whoever paid the highest loan fee or offered the quickest solution. He's never been goven a chance in pre-season or for the reserve teams etc.

He was basically an after thought who's had minimsl resources afforded to managing his career, who Liverpool have held back from getting a transfer by over pricing a player we never had any intention of utilising.

His career epitomises everything wrong with the loan market. He's just shy of 24 years old and he's barely played 100 games in his career because no club has had any reason to persevere with him or invest their own time and energy into him.

I love Liverpool but sometimes you have to call a duck a duck. The clubs let him down.

18 May 2021 17:13:06
How could he be given a chance without a work permit? Why do people go out of their way to find negativity regarding the club. And if he's only played 100 games that's down to no one else but himself. Seems to be a player that hits purple patches followed by barren spells. Of course a club will persevere with and invest their own time in a player, if he's deemed important enough to them. don't forget these clubs do want him at their club, we don't force him upon them.

Okay Jadon. Put yourself in his shoes. 6 times in 7 years he's had to uproot his entire life. Make new friends. Learn a new style of play. Learn a new language.

And for what? What was the plan from Liverpool? There was never any promise of ever getting a chance because as you said he had no work permit. So why did we continue to hold him at the club when their were offers on the table? Would you be happy to be sent off to work in 6 different cities in 7 years with no clarity on what the long term goal was? Or even what your future was within that company? Would you be happy if that company then held you back from changing to a new job where you would be more valued/ important? No you wouldn't.

Why do people act like footballers aren't real people. A loan deal in real life isn't as simple as it is in a video game. You don't see all the hassle it causes the player. To have it happen 7 times in 7 years changing club each time, without any consistency is genuinely negligent in my opinion. I'm not looking for a negative. Search my post history and you'll see i've been very outspoken regarding my hatred of the loan system for the 10 years i've posted here. Liverpool aren't the only culprits.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed0666's Note - at his age if someone was paying me circa 20 large a week to play football every year in 7 different countries, learn new languages and immerse myself in 7 different cultures and let’s face it all those women from all types of places I wouldn’t be complaining too loudly. Hell I would do it now.

What Ed said.

18 May 2021 19:51:53
Ed0666, but you're talking from a position with everything to gain. Awoniyi probably had aspirations of a successful career. Also, go ask Gary Speed if money and fame is all you need to be happy. That's a very ignorant view from you, by your lofty standards. Anybody who thinks we haven't messed him about is kidding themselves out of blind loyalty to Liverpool. I hate the loan system and i wish they'd put a cap on the number of players over the age of 21 that you can loan out so clubs were more responsible with players careers. Big clubs just hoard players.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed0666's Note - I’m assuming you are not coming from an informed position MK. Maybe he was a disruptive influence hence his plethora of moves? Maybe he didn’t fit into certain environments? Maybe he wanted the moves? There’s a lot of variables to loans or maybe he wasn’t related by the academy coaches or the under 23 coaches and they wanted to ship him out to gain experience. I certainly don’t know the ins and outs of this particular situation, I’m merely expressing that if this experience was to befall me at the age the respective player is I wouldn’t be too perturbed.

18 May 2021 20:18:59
Fair enough mate. I'll agree to disagree. At the end of his career, he'll regret signing for Liverpool as it stands, in my opinion. I'm sure he's made plenty of money and if that's enough for him, then fair enough. All i'm saying is he could've earned plenty of money at one club and potentially progressed as a player to achieve more in the game, and naturally he would then earn more too. I don't believe the current loan system safeguards young players well enough. Maybe Awoniyi is the type of guy to embrace the hand he's dealt and not dwell on what could've been. But a lot of players get lost in the loan system and struggle with their mental health after their careers because they fell from the top or know they could've done more. I'm not trying to be anti-Liverpool. I just hate the loan system. I wouldn't even care if they scrapped it entirely. Maybe i'm viewing it with slight tunnel vision in this instance, as becoming a dad at 21, i'd have been fuming if work had me moving my young family here, there and everywhere with no end in sight. I'd still like Liverpool to do better. I'd rather we set the standard of looking after our players careers, and that might even make us more attractive to the best young talent. No offence intended to you or Jadon Havertz. I didn't mean my last post to sound so prickly.

If he'd done enough at any of his loans then one of the clubs would have made a decent offer which Lfc felt reflected his value. Or another team lookin on, but no one has.

Agree1 Disagree0

18 May 2021 21:02:36
Did he sign a 7 year contract at 17? 6 loans in 7 years quite possibly means he signed a 2nd contract at Liverpool at some stage. If he's being messed about at the club why would he extend his contract?

Agree3 Disagree0

18 May 2021 22:43:57
He has had a number of injuries that have stuffed up a few of his seasons which hasn't helped. But Id have to agree with MK that we couldve done better with him.

Agree1 Disagree0

19 May 2021 08:06:16
So scrap the loan system to have him sitting in the hors d’oeuvres for 7 years until his contract runs out and he’s cast off like a piece of rubbish? I’m sure he’d rather be out there playing wouldn’t he?

Agree0 Disagree0

19 May 2021 08:41:25
Beckers peckers, if the loan system was refined then teams wouldn't hoard players. I don't want it scrapped entirely. I want a cap on how many aged 21 and over players a club can loan out at one time. Force these powerhouses to let players leave and push on in their careers. Either that or give them a chance in the first team. There is a cap on how many players you can loan in, but not on how many you can loan out. It's wrong in my opinion. It's a way for clubs to get away with false promises to masses of young players and not have to suffer the consequences.

I’ve never sat in hors d’oeuvres before BP.

Sure, I’ve lounged in a few desserts and jogged through plenty of main courses, but I have never, even sat in hors d’oeuvres.

What’s it like? Does it leave you wanting more?

MK back to your old self I see. Talking claptrap and using some of what the Ed’s say to get favour again. This time you are using the fact Ed says Liverpool do not have great loan system and doesn’t have much of a plan or aftercare.

You don’t know anything about the loan move in question. You don’t know the lad or the situation. You are merely speaking from a position of ignorance but in belief of what you want to hear.

And for you to mention Gary speed is an absolute insult to him and his family. To link these together is disgusting. I don’t normally post but can’t let you get away with this. Engage your brain before typing. And stop parroting what you hear from the Ed’s.

P. s take an extended break again. Cloggin up the site with your nonsense. Your opinion is no more valid than anyone else. And it doesn’t make you right even if you text it.

Grow up and get a life!

Have I missed something?

Who would face predicted Arsenal beating Chelsea and us beating United away 4-2? In all honesty? And if those results went the other way we’d be in the Thursday Cup. Based on this season those results were highly unpredictable. Tonight gives us another chance, but we still need to win both of our remaining games and win them comfortably. Let’s hope Burnley and Palace have their flip flops on….

Agree1 Disagree0

19 May 2021 08:11:18
Vic, just wins will more than likely do the job. We don’t necessarily need to win comfortably.
Not easy as Burnley and Palace are exactly the type of teams we’ve struggled against but wins by 1 goal should be enough as Leicester will need to beat Spurs by 3 and anyone who saw them last night would not be confident of that happening at all.
