Evening eds.

Could Liverpool make the Kabak deal perm in the summer and still go ahead with signing another CB ( Konate) depending on money of course. Or is it, one or the other?

Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - It would depend who leaves - Konate would be a starter. If Gomez were sold (and I think it will be tough to find a buyer after a season largely injured) and other funds could be found it may well be possible.}

Do you think Liverpool would be open to letting Gomez leave, if the right offer came along?

It's either Kabak or another CB, not both. VVD, Gomez, Matip, Phillips and Kabak/ new CB will have to do for now especially with funds being limited.

Matip needs to be sold he’s too injury prone to be relied upon.

Genuine question: what club in their right mind is going to pay a transfer fee, or any significant level of salary, for Matip right now? We would be looking for someone willing to buy him before he's played a match in his return after his latest long-term injury, and willing to ignore that he has barely been able to put two consecutive matches together for the last two years, and has had multiple long term injuries and shorter term niggles.

Nothing against Matip, I really like him as a player and think he's a very good centre-half when he's free of injury but I don't understand why anybody would factor him into the consideration when talking about player sales and raising funds for new signings. Sadly I think it's one of those cases where he stays with us for the remainder of his contract and we take the view that if we ever get a long period where he's free of injuries, it's a bonus. And if he does ever get over the injury problems, we probably wouldn't want to sell him anyway because he'd be one of our best defenders.

Exactly, RR, nobody will take a risk on him, and equally true is why would Matip, who earns 100,000 a week at Anfield, and is contracted until 2024, agree to leave? He’s staying put. The one good thing about him is that when he returns from injury he is immediately operating at a very high level straight away. He’s incredible, I’ve never seen a player like him, just slots straight back in like he hasn’t been away. One of the best center backs in the Prem, hope he gets an injury-free run next year, what a bonus that would be!

Can't we sell matip and sign both? 🤔🤔makes more sense than selling gomez🤔.

Konate does look great, but you want to replace Matip who is injury prone in your eyes with another injury prone player?

Matip - 396 days missed due to injury so far since 16/ 17 season
Konate - 405 days missed due to injury so far since 17/ 18 season

CB options next year will be VVD, JG, JM, OK Phillips will be sold as will Davies.

Yikes! I knew Konate had injury issues, but diving deep on that, that's really ugly. Looks like he's missed considerable time with muscle issues, and some guys just have a physiological structure that makes them prone to them.

I think Matip is great in a reserve role, you just can't put too much stress on his body without risking injury. I think LFC is in a better spot not having both him and Gomez in the lineup, but as mentioned above, either will be difficult to sell because of the injury issues this season.

Matip one of the best center backs in the premiership? Really?
Slits straight back in? Again really?
I’ll agree when fit he’s a good player but I’ll emphasise when fit. Unfortunately he’s too injury prone to take up a squad place in my opinion.

Wouldnt be surprised at all to see both Joe and Joel still here next season. Think Kabak added to them and Virg and "when fit" we will have a very very good CB four. I know joe/ joel have their injuries but we shouldn't be expecting a year like this one injury-wise every season.

“just can't put too much stress on his body without risking injury“. Matip pulls a hamstring tying up his laces.

This season has shown you cannot rely upon Matip, not as a reserve and not as a regular starter. He’s just too injury prone.

Gomez’s injuries have all been serious ones, you can’t compare him to matip at all. Matip gets injured in hay fever season!

Matip is one of the best cb’s Klopp knows this and seems to favour him. We stuck by some players over the years who seemed to be prone to injury ( gerrard had back problems, Owen and his strings etc) no one called to have them flogged. Gomez may not get injured tripping over his cat but when he does it’s a serious injury seems to be out for months on end. He is no more reliable than Joel imo. You can all sit here hoping to buy and sell till the cows come home but let me be the voice of reason even if we win the champions league and finish top 4 there will be NO significant investment. All these Mbappe etc rumours are just agent’s using us to broker deals elsewhere. FSG knew we needed defensive cover for months watched us drop like lead cos of it yet waited until the last day to bring in players of potential not established. Just be hopeful joe and Joel can stay fit and that vvd comes back on the same level because they are cavalry .

{Ed0666's Note - I bet you we spend big money on a Centre back in the summer. £100 to the charity of the winners choosing? Let me go on record as say I’m not an ITK My charity is Make a wish foundation. What say you?

20 Mar 2021 11:14:06
Ok Ed666 I’m game I’ll honour that 👍 what are we deeming “ big money”? I support Alder hey and Cancer research .

{Ed0666's Note - fantastic buddy. I appreciate it. Two fantastic charities you’ve chosen by the way and it’s game on. ‘Big Money’ is a free transfer lol no only joking. We are in a midst of a pandemic so normal spending is gonna be curtailed would you be happy with say a transfer over £30 million for a centre back deemed as a big outlay?

20 Mar 2021 13:47:10
Let’s hope it isn’t £29.99! Ed I am assuming you’ve said £30m as you know konate’s release clause.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed0666's Note - would love is to sign konate for 29.99 unfortunately mate he’s so injury prone I’m not sure that price would even constitute a good deal

20 Mar 2021 15:59:46
It makes no logical sense keeping two injury prone centre backs and as good as Matip is, he’s just not worth keeping on. Gomez could “grow out” of his injury issues, like Gerrard did as he got older with some careful planning and the correct physiotherapy, but Matip is knocking 30 so it’s not going to get better anytime soon.

Ed666 I was hoping for £35 million but seeing has it’s for charity no probs. good luck btw I’d rather be out of pocket and happy ( new signing) so half hoping you win.

{Ed0666's Note - Let’s meet half way my friend and agree to £32.5 million. How’s that sound?

Brilliant ed666.

{Ed0666's Note - the bet is on scouse...good luck mate

If someone with a bit more time and expertise than me managed to set this up as a fund raiser, I reckon we could all join in, have a laugh and raise a bit of money for charity over the next few months.
I haven’t got a hundred quid to spare, but I’d put a fiver on us spending less than £32.5m.

{Ed0666's Note - Great idea Manc. Anyone like to take the lead on this one and get it organized. Think of the karma points you’d get.
