Reina will stay this summer. Liverpool will sign Tom Ince and Ashley Williams with Rodgers also looking for another forward player, another centre half and if funds are available possibly cover in the holding midfield role and at left back. Despite Downing's recent run he is still likely to be offloaded in the summer along with the likes of Carroll, Assaildi, Coates, Pacheco, Wilson and Spearing while there are also rumours that Skrtel could leave.

Williams would command a high fee due to being club & country captain and also recently signing a new deal.

Now that his Dad is manager I think it will be harder to get Tom as his Dad will have too much input and won't allow it.

Downing has been one of the better players in recent weeks so unless we get a fee of around £12M upwards I think he will still be a Liverpool player.

Everything in this comment is a rumour, you deliver the majority as ''truth'' or factual and then finish up with Skrtel could leave, but that's just a rumour. Oh really.

BCDI.

Would this be the same Ashley Williams who wants to punch Suarez? Personally I hope we can get better than him.

19 Feb 2013 13:36:05
I don't think ashly williams is any better than any of our other cbs

Williams is a big no no no

Williams has publicly stated his dislike for Suarez, and there is no way Rodgers would upset his star player.

Ashley Williams is actually a very good player and I don't think it's any coincidence that the first time we scored against Swansea was Sunday - where he was on the bench. Suarez has looked very ineffective whenever we've played them for me. I know there was all that talk about punching him in the face or whatever but they hugged and had a laugh after the game in November. Also he's the Wales captain for a reason, and it's clear we're lacking that sort of command and presence in defence, that's why Carra has come back in recently but he's going in the summer. He's also very quick which is a bonus and good in the air so we don't get dominated by every tall striker we come up against.

I hope Reina does stay as he is a top class keeper and has been since he arrived at LFC. Some will only realise how good he was once he has left.
I hope the same mistake is not made this summer in trying to offload too many players and change the team to much. The priority is to bring in 3 or 4 players that make the first team better. Not offload a whole lot of decent players and replace them with like.

with Paul Ince becoming the new Blackpool manager, does that increase or decrease the likelyhood of Tom moving to Liverpool or any other club? {Ed002's Note - It makes no difference.}

Of course it makes a difference, 1 it's his dad, and 2 a new manager could talk him into staying with promise of promotion and playing time.

To say no is ridiculous!

Sinister Red

I wouldn't like playing for my dad it would be a right pain plus certain players will be looking saying he gets special treatment. Blackpool is a nuthouse Di Canio would have been perfect for that job. Maybe we could loan them a player as part of the deal for Ince.

Lets face it, come summer Ince will of been sacked (post managerial experience has shown) so it'll make no difference ;)

Liverpool have confirmed full-back Jack Robinson will spend the rest of the season on loan at Wolves

Great move for the lad, hopefully he can get 10 games or so under his belt before he comes back.

Thats what happens when you tell luis suarez to F$%k off.

Eds, do you think Liverpool will be in the market for another midfielder in the summer? Talk of Biglia and an Alonso return, I myself would like a back up for Lucas Leiva - someone like Gundogan for Dortmund, any chance? {Ed002's Note - To sit on the bech as back up for Lucas? No.}

If Liverpool is going for somoene the should go for a young talented midfielder like eriksen from ajax a real team player with great potienial I have followed the dutch eredvise and he is is a player should bid on this summer

18 Feb 2013 19:38:07
i will be the 1st to admit how wrong I was about sturridge, I really didn't want to us to buy him but I think he's been our best player since he arrived he's got really quick feet very skillful and brings others into play, suarez now has more room to play his game, my only concern would be if sturridge were to get injured we have no back up as borini is not the answer but I must admit I really like the look of christian benteke from aston villa who we could get for about 15 million he's only 22 and fits into FSG plans to buy good young talent. what are our chances of landing him in the summer ED's or are we showing any interest do you know. thanks ED's. {Ed002's Note - I am not aware of any interest.}

I thought he publicly said he wanted to play for Arsenal?

Oh well! he plays for Liverpool now not arsenal and can now show how good he thinks he is for Liverpool (which he is doing!) football is a very dirty market these days and footballers are manipulated from what they say and do "puppets" so that explains the arsenal remark if it is true? Doesn't really matter.

Noel

Many many people were wrong about Sturridge. even Chelski fans.

At the moment it looks like I was wrong too. See how it goes for the rest of the season before I 100% admit to being an person. I wasn't wrong about Lucas or Hendo though.

Good work with the log in function Eds!
Also, hope 02 isn't leaving as that will mean one less balanced view on the site!
Anyway, who is Mike Jeffries? Is he the Mike Jeffries who lives around the corner from me who claims to be a plumber but should actually be called a butcher?

Ultra red {Ed002's Note - Apparently Mike Jeffries Tweets (I haven't checked) but the quotes rcently attributed to him relate to an interview given in September sometime and I suspect he had found out about the potential value of the business if floated on the stock market had been determined on behalf of FSG. You, of course, aready knew about that if you had read these pages. Perhaps his interest in this matter has arisen again as the value has againe been independently assessed for a floatation. This should not be confused with a determination to sell.}

What is the current value of the club eds? {Ed002's Note - It really isn't important and probably not something we wish to open up right now.}

Cheers Ed. I'm still wondering why my poor excuse for a plumber is interested though!

Eds regarding the Value, let us do indeed go there. Can you simply give us an estimation of how much we are worth?. That also taking into account all other plausible factors. {Ed002's Note - I would rather avopid discussion of money as folks won't understand.}

Not fully clued up on this but is it possible that the club could be valued by the owners from time to time as a way to measure what success they're having from a financial/business perspective?

I'd expect them to do something to this effect from time to time, surely? They can't seriously judge their investment on whether we win or lose, there's plenty of other things that come into it such as merchandising and marketing that you'd want to know if your efforts are boosting the club's value?

And in recent years we've definitely improved in that aspect, such as sponsors etc.

misterdrumz {Ed002's Note - That is really not how it works.}

Any chance Reina could stay Eds? {Ed002's Note - Of course there is a chance.}

He said he will be staying to Radio Marca recently.

Hi Eds,

I always see an article about Alonso. Everytime there is something regarding him and his love for Liverpool. If he became available, do you think BR would consider him and/or do you think FSG would even considering it, especially after refusing the payout on Dempsey?

He's a great player, a legend and something we are missing in the middle of the park. Hendo, allen and lucas can't do it like Alonso does.

Or am I just dreaming haha

Cheers EDS.

Jay-Beale {Ed002's Note - There is interest in Alonso from elsewhere and it is likely he will leave next summer. I would think it unlikely that Liverpool would be interested in buying him back because he is a "legend". The club needs to find the next Alonso.}

What other team has interest in Alonso? {Ed002's Note - The likely summer departure of Galatasaray's Selcuk Inan has prompted interest in Xabi Alonso from the Turkish side.}

We have the next Alonso, Suso

We have been searching for the next Alonso since he left and I think some of our youth might step up to that level. We need him for his experience

Many of our youth players have commented on how much they've learned from players like carra and gerrard. even suarez has said how gerrard's advice has been invaluable to him.

i'd have Alonso back not only for that aspect but also as he's shown last week, he's still very much at the top of his game. absolute hero saving that shot from rooney.

misterdrumz

Suso next Alonso?

Michel Vorm very complimentary with comments about playing at Anfield. Wonder does he low something about new pastures in the summer?
Red Knight

Not another Swansea player. Borini, Allen, Williams, Vorm

Borini only played on loan at Swansea, he was never ''a Swansea player'' We haven't signed Williams, so he isn't a Liverpool player.

Wait until Neil Taylor is playing again, we'll be linked with him no doubt. Doesn't means we will buy all these players. It's just guess work for a lot of it. Liverpool are losing one or maybe more centre backs at the end of the Season. In the Summer we will be looking to bring a few in the door, so of course we will be linked with Swansea players having the ex-Swansea manager. It's all plausible to the reader, it doesn't make it true though.

Or, as an alternative explanation, Vorm had 5 goals put past him and if he comes out and talks about how rubbish Anfield is it makes him look even worse? OR, as unlikely as it is, he's just a repectful guy who says some nice nothing statements when asked about other teams and grounds

Hey Eds,
Any interest in Dries Mertens? He is really lighting up the Eredivisie atm. Scored another free kick this past weekend. Could be another Suarez if we sign him. Certainly has the potential. Thoughts? {Ed001's Note - no idea if we still have interest in him. I very much doubt we will move for him though in the summer.}

Suarez is he real one. He is a fake

He should be close to top of our transfer list this summer as he has said himself that he will be moving on at the end of the season and would not cost a huge amount at around £10. 6M, however as Ed002 keeps saying Bayern Munich are also interested so we will have to wait and see.

Hello Ed,
what about Hueng Min Son?
are we interested in him. Personally think he could be as good a buy as Mertens and cheaper than Mertens too.
Just hoping we go for him. He would be the ideal player to replace Downing and Assaidi. {Ed002's Note - A number of clubs, including Liverpool, have been looking at Hamburg's Heung Min Son for the past year. Certainly Spurs, Sunderland, Lille and West Ham have had him watched on more than one occasion leading up to the end of last year and Spurs had a bid turned down in January. Since the New Year some interest has been shown by Dortmund, Manchester United, CSKA Moscow and Chelsea, who would look to a deal that sees a player as part of an offer. Hamburg would like to keep him and I expect him to move in the summer, but a move to Chelsea or Manchester United could see him sat on the bench and that may not be what he wants.

Given the two additions in January I would doubt there is any risidual interest from Liverpool.}

Hi Eds,
I noticed a few people constantly bringing up alleged comment made by Mike Jefferies.
In a Roundtable Special he was asked:
There have been some rumblings that FSG may be planning to sell the club. Ben Smith of the BBC, a well respected journalist with a track record of being reliable when it comes to Liverpool Football Club, has stated that this is not the case and that John W Henry and FSG have "a clear plan" for Liverpool. Do you believe this to be the case?

He Answered:
Mike - FSG did investigate a disposal with investment banks and consultants in late 2011 and early 2012 - and they did receive at least one offer. And it's 'known' that if they had a real opportunity to sell the club today, then they would. No doubt! No question! But all that is obviously very different to your "rumblings that FSG may be planning to sell".

I don't believe they want to sell the club and are actively shopping the club around, but as Mike points out, if they got a real offer which represented the right thing for them from a business perspective, they would likely sell the club and move on. Si brings up the point of FFP and the proper enforcement of FFP could be a key factor in whether FSG stick or twist. Obviously it's going to take a couple of years before we see just how serious UEFA are about FFP though.

I hope this helps to clarify some of the rumours that have been floating around.

Before anyone points it out. I'm aware this is taken from something last September but it seems to me that little has changed since then and everything else really amounts to repetition and speculation.

18 Feb 2013 17:33:24
Mike Jeffries has tweeted recently about the sale and still thinks it's on the cards. He really does not seem to be a fan of FSG at all.

Crowman

What on earth possessed you to say Ben Smith is respected or reliable wrt LFC. He is a journalist like all the rest, invents stories hoping that maybe one day one will be correct and can claim to be in the know.

John B {Ed002's Note - You seem to be tainting journalists rather unfairly. Ignorance is not really a great leveller.}

For the right price everything in life is for sale.

Reusch. {Ed002's Note - Do you have a sister? And Ed007 wants to know if your Grandmother is still around?}

It is undoutedly true that something unemotionally acquired can have a 'sell-on' price. It is also true that Mr Mike Jefferies as a successful playwright and screenwriter (behind the GOAL series of films) continues to tweet that FSG want to sell the club (he may even be privy to behind the scenes information as potential buyers may well be amongst his friends in LA). but I think we simply have to accept that he might just be like most of us a frustrated fan who has waited too long the return of the glory days. After all is said and done we love LFC and so we look for excuses when they do not achieve what we want them to achieve. I believe that FSG have always had good intentions and have put us in a better position. some will not agree with that, but that's just a 'horses for courses' argument.

In Reusch's defense, people are not things as they are not owned. As much as I love both my sister and my grandmother, they would probably be available for enough money is someone 'owned' them.

But anyway, what I'm understanding is that FSG aren't jumping ship, but they are keeping up to date with the clubs value as if offers come in that equal long term projections in the short term, they'll seriously consider it and most likely sell. In a nutshell is that it?

18 Feb 2013 13:46:06
Hi eds tv a saying robinson could be going to wolves on loan. Any truth in it? {Ed001's Note - yes.}

Robinson will benefit by playing games

It's a good move for him, we should send them Coates on loan as he wants regular football and he will get it there.

I would think telling Suarez to eff off in the game against Oldham when he shot into the stands instead of crossing sealed his Liverpool career

Good move for him but do you rate if Enrique gets injured that'll leave us abit short?

18 Feb 2013 10:34:17
Hi ed's, just wondering if you know if we are scouting players who have the physicality we need because we are very soft against the big teams e.g Stoke, something we really need to address this summer. Thanks.

LFCgreg {Ed001's Note - I don't know what you would consider the physicality required? If you mean are we after some big lumps to counter their brute force, no. We are after players who are better than what we have.}

Not the way we are trying to play, you just need to look at who we've signed already to answer that one.

Keith

Not like big lumps I mean players who can obviously play but are strong physically. We always get bullied by the big teams that's what I meant.

LFCgreg

We need a Yaya Toure type presence in midfield, in my opinion. Obviously Toure isn't an option, but someone with a similar build and style would be a big physical and playmaking bonus in midfield.

Get Carroll back

18 Feb 2013 10:14:12
Hi ed's Mike jeffries is adamant that suarez will be off in the summer to madrid. he's also saying that fsg are out of there depth and comfortable zone, and want out is there any truth to these comments. {Ed001's Note - I have not read his comments, I would prefer not to make a reaction based on a few pieces that could have been taken out of context or misrepresented.}

There is no taken out of context about it for his part, he is balls-out stating FSG want rid and have done for over a year but there are no buyers. {Ed001's Note - not according to what I have read.}

I have read the same information and think there is no smoke without fire. The information also stated that there is a buyer interested in our club, but not at FSG 's extortionate price.

Suarez is staying at Liverpool

18 Feb 2013 11:05:09
Hey Eds. Love the site

Although this is actually not about Liverpool, who do you think is better, Ter Stegen or Courtois. Both are young and are hunted by many teams.
And secondly, I have heard people say that Ashley Williams is wanted by us. Is it true, after all on Sunday, he did start on the bench and I would love someone to replace Carragher {Ed001's Note - no idea sorry, a lot depends on what you want from a keeper, Courtois better with his feet though. I don't know of any interest from us in Williams.}

Ed, every time we are after a certain position, are the press always going to link us with a Swansea or ex Swansea or even ex BR player?

Keith

18 Feb 2013 13:12:50
Courtois is far much better, IMO the best and most consistent young keeper around.

Let's by whole Swansea team. Sinclair in summer

I'd say they are both very good, but for me Courtois is better overall. He's probably the best keeper in his age bracket, I'd say. A bit of a subjective opinion though, am sure others might think the same of Ter Stegen. Another I personally like quite a lot is Leno. {Ed002's Note - The only team to have approached Chelsea about Courtois is Barcelona, and their approaches have been spurned twice - hence them turning to ter Stegen.}

Thanks for the info, Ed002. With respect to Courtois, I think it's pretty clear he's the intended successor to Cech for Chelsea, but do you see him waiting around and going out on loan a few more seasons to get the top spot there? Or does Cech have less time in blue than I might be thinking? Apologies in advance for the non-LFC related follow up question. {Ed002's Note - It won't be a "few more seasons" but perhaps one more season on loan.}

18 Feb 2013 10:03:19
ED01?

Can you really see FSG bailing out?
I find purslows comments deeply concerning.

We do not need further instability. {Ed001's Note - it is very possible, they have propped up an ailing club, at huge cost, and yet have received nothing but abuse from a section of fans.}

Ed I don't understand why they don't speak to usmanov from arsenal as he is desperate to get full control of a prem club and has easily got the money to buy us? he is loaded {Ed001's Note - because Usmanov is trying to complete a deal to take control of Arsenal and is not interested in buying us.}

Some (well, quite a lot) seems unfair but some they have brought on themselves - largely brought on by their non persona.
And, to be fair ed001, if LFC was owned by Anfield Sports Group and they had an American franchise that was taking lots of money and efforts away from us, we'd all be shouting from the rooftops.
I wouldn't lose too much sleep if they decided to sell up tbh. I believe their intentions are good but it's not their full time interest. I just hope that they do the stadium before going, at least it would increase their 'asset' if they wanted to sell?
The Juicer {Ed001's Note - just remember how close Chelsea were to going under before Roman saved them. They were owned by Bates, but Matthew Harding was propping them up with his fortune. His death nearly killed the club. I would rather we had owners that just let the club run itself, rather than someone who interferes and spends beyond its means.}

Ed001, that "run itself" thing has been the exact cause of much of the problems. Take the Suarez thing for one (how Ian Ayre survived the subsequent cull is beyond me) and, for two, the proposed DoF set up this Summer that was abandoned seemingly at the behest of Rodgers. It smacks of weak management and a lack of confidence in their football expertise to me.
The Juicer {Ed001's Note - what is your point? Weak management? Delegation to others is not weak management, it is what management is about. Lack of confidence in their football expertise? That is why they sought the expertise of people that do have football expertise when they appointed Rodgers. The likes of Michael Laudrup and David Dein all had an input into the appointment. I do agree on the Ayre point, he is very lucky to still have a role at the club. Other than that, I fail to see the problem.}

Yes I take your point ed001. There's a line between over-control and laissez faire styles. I'm still not convinced we've got it totally right though.
Answer me one last question - do you see FSG getting the stadium redevelopment done?
The Juicer {Ed001's Note - if they stay, they will get it done, it is their priority, it is others blocking it that has caused it to take so long.}

Give FSG a break. They've brought us back from the brink financially! I support their young talent policy. Quite frankly we had to short a turn around to get in players before the FFP rules came into play, now though City are looking for a MASSIVE clear out, chelsea have 18 players on loan to reduce their bill, and are uncusre on Lampard their talismans contract. Liverpool aren't in a bad position financially, we have good players coming through the acdemy. Brandans style of play can be seen coming together withing the squad, we're not too far off a UEFA spot. 8 or so month isn't enough time to judge Brandan and quite frankly I was surprised FSG got us in the psotition we are in, in under 5 years! I'm happy with where Liverpool FC are at I think the future holds a lot for our team.

Get Dalglish back then

Get Dalglish at director of football

Hey ed's are the owners actively seeking to sell the club, and who if anyone would be interested In buying us. {Ed002's Note - I don't think they are "actively seeking" to sell the club right now.}

Ed002 would they sell if a reasonable offer came in? {Ed002's Note - That is not a reasonable question - it is a far more complex issue that that.}

Ed002 are you still going to explain it all on wednesday like u said? {Ed002's Note - I don't think there is anything more to be said than has been said.}

Ed002 if that is the case can u explain the complex issue? {Ed002's Note - What I meant was any sale was a far more complex issue than simply an offer being made.}

18 Feb 2013 06:55:45
hey eds, do you expect us to go for any strong defensive midfielders in the summer? and what exactly is the issue with Assaidi why isn't he getting enough game time, when ever he played he seemed like a fire cracker of a player. If this goes on do you expect him to leave or be used as a bait to sign say Eriksen (unrealistic) or Siem De Jong from ajax?
BTW great job with the new poster registration. {Ed001's Note - I expect a central defender to be the summer priority, or two. Then a keeper. After that, I wouldn't know right now. As for Assaidi, his final ball was poor, he needs to improve on that. Hard to see him being used as bait, I doubt he will be top of anyone's target list, certainly he will not have a high sales value.}

Even if Skrtel & Coates were to leave and Carra retiring we would still have Agger, Kelly & Wisdom who are natural center halfs, so who ever we buy would it be to play as back up to Kelly & Agger who would be my choice, or would it be to play alongside Agger, as for the GK, if Reina does leave then i'd like Ter Stegan or Kevin Trapp.

If we have given numerous chances to Downing, Shelvey and even Henderson who have only come good recently, then we should bide time with Assaidi. And no, We havn't seen him enough.

18 Feb 2013 02:22:38
Hey Eds,
Could I please trouble you for the current situation of Assaidi?
Is He Injured, Not Fit, Not Favoured, Or Someting Else?
Thanks In Advance
DPK14 {Ed001's Note - out of favour.}

18 Feb 2013 10:46:25
Hi ed, is this "out of favour" thingy with Assaidi due to his attitude or something else? I'm curious because he looks good every time he comes on for us. Th guy's got pace and can take on defenders. Cheers. ZA13 {Ed001's Note - his final ball is awful, that is the answer.}

He is out of favur I agree with that. but seeing as our only winger atm seems to be downing who is a regular. I think assaidi needs to be given a chance. because you can't play sterling all the time either

Assaidi should play against Zenit

Rubbish about his final pass. Look at what Shelvey, Henderson and Downing were like.

Should be given a change. Probably better than Ince if given opportunity.

Do you think he's really been as bad as some of the other bad performers this year ed? Reina has cost us points in 8 games this year but still sits in goal every week. Skrtle still getting picked despite costing us points in at least 2 games. Personally I think assaidi has been given a raw deal when compared to the rest of squad
