I know he is a decent player but do you think that would be damaging jones prospects as a future player.

Would we have said Wijnaldum and Robbo were not good enough when we signed them? Only a question as I know loads on here including me weren’t impressed with Robbo signing and there were calls he wasn’t good enough. For me a squad is like a jigsaw some of the pieces might not be as spectacular as others but they are all as important to make the finished article.

I agree that Cantwell isn’t what’s needed for our team. He’s far too lightweight and will cost far too much for someone so unproven.
We’re heading into elite territory with our team and so squad additions need to be higher in quality for me.

Ed2 mentioned Julian Brandt’s availability and I think you’d be hard pressed to find a better target who can play as many positions as he can. He can play either wing, CM and CAM and far more quality than cantwell.

Brandt is a much better player than Cantwell but I think you're missing one of the major appeals of Cantwell: he'd be a HG player replacing an outgoing HG player in Lallana. Brandt would take up yet another non-HG space and we're already skating close to the edge registration wise.

HG is not a reason to buy a much poorer player. There are better options like Ben White to take the place of Lovren.
