Good lad Woodburn making the bench today, know he's probably only in because others are out but he's apparently impressed a lot in preseason, maybe he'll be a nice little squad player for us this year and make some cup appearances.

He is one of those good eggs I want to see be successful albeit with us or anywhere because he’s never complained never been arrogant just had real bad luck and hopefully can prove why everyone bet on him at the age of 17.

He seems like a really good lad and credit to whoever is guiding him - bit of a contrast with the support that. Bobby Duncan is getting.

Keita AND Chamberlain, Fabinho on the bench- I'm going 6-4 to the Reds!

James Balagizi strikes again on u18 today's match. Hopefully Klopp will give him a chance to play with the senior team. Home grown player and available to play in midfield and forward position.

I was hoping for Elliot to start but it makes sense not to rush him. Keita tho.

Keita did well. I guess that will actually disappoint some folks.

{Ed0666's Note - really do you think he did? Tell me what you think he did well

Walked off the pitch.

Keita was awful again and offered absolutely nothing and again didn’t track back and defend and let norwhich in a few times.

I’m with the Ed on this. He broke up some passages of play, but he looked lethargic in possession. Hopefully he can build a run however.

He’s absolutely abysmal. He just offers absolutely nothing. Needs to be sold.

15 Aug 2021 00:11:54
Wow! Awful, seriously? He wasn’t great, but by no means awful either. He was a player that helped Us win 0-3. No more, no less. He was decent today.

He pressed quite well. Thought he was steady and hopefully builds on the performance.

I’m with Ed 66 don’t get the scores of 8 out 10 for naby just looks lazy or disinterested.

Agree0 Disagree0

15 Aug 2021 08:19:00
I don’t think any of the starting three midfielders covered themselves in glory but Keita was solid and the best of the bunch IMO, showing some decent movement and attempts to link up play with Mane in particular.

To be fair to the starting three though, it was also an odd starting lineup as non of the them are defensively minded, we looked far better with Fabinho on the pitch. I am a bit worried by the selection choice we made first up as showed we lack options when Fabinho isn’t a starter.

15 Aug 2021 11:32:25
Sgred we have Henderson and Thiago to come back, Jones too. For me Naby wasn't great but I'd definitely like to see him forward more with a better 2 in beside him. Fab and hendo or thiago. Definitely didn't think he was lazy, only one that was trying to press in midfield. To be fair he and Ox were getting the ball too deep and having to sit deep too much because of the 3 in there. But hey they all did a job asked of them and got a comfortable 3 níl win.

Hello ed002,

You said that there is need to refresh the squad because most of our first team player is on the old side. they need to be replace by younger player for a better future. so my question is:

1.whether there is a concrete plan within the club on how to do this?
2.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Yes the club will have at least an outline plan and will be starting to do what they can next year - I had expected it to start this year but the pandemic, money and the lack of sales hit that hard.}

14 Aug 2021 15:07:04
Actually my 2nd question is how the club plan on funding this? one way to do it is by selling our star player but as you said most are already past their peak selling value and the player to replace them will most probably cost a lot of money. as we can all see this transfer window, we are struggling really hard to find the money to get the player that we want.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - The club have to stay within FFP so funding comes from profits, selling players and a small amount the owners can add.}

14 Aug 2021 15:22:50
Keep signing top youth and giving them a go. Elliott and Gordon will save the club a fortune.

Agree6 Disagree0

14 Aug 2021 15:31:49
Liverpool can't no longer sign u18 player from overseas if im not mistaken Jadon mate. give youth a go is not a bad thing but will the fans be patient enough if they don't perform?

Agree2 Disagree0

14 Aug 2021 15:55:39
They'll have to be, the only way i can see us continuing to compete. We have to try and turn ourselves into the English Dortmund where the best kids'll come because they know they'll get a proper chance, the big difference being we wouldn't have to then sell them when they make it big.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed0666's Note - Utter bunkum

14 Aug 2021 20:03:59
Become Dortmund? Nonsense, we need to bring through youth, where hopefully the best rise to be star performers but align that with a transfer strategy that attracts the best player we possibly can. We have signed and sold players for vast sums - but generally with the purpose of building the best possible squad we can to compete. This should continue with an emphasis of sustainability- hence certain sales will always be necessary as will selling those that won't make it and freeing up opportunitiesfor others. The aim is to get the best out of those top players whilst selling and replacing as those players start to dip.

Jason, how about bring kids through from our juniors rather than ‘buy, buy, buy’

In the good old days coaches actually coached. They didn’t phone Qatar or Dubai, or a dacha on the Black Sea and say sign me three right backs for 70 m, 60 m and 50 m. long ago days but some how we struggled by.

15 Aug 2021 07:36:00
Out of curiousity, if you were in charge ed002, what will you do? which player will you keep and which player will you brought in?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - There will be emerging players we don't even know of yet but the issue is that there are too many players around 30 or so - meaning, like it or not, that Milner, Matip, van Dijk, Henderson, Salah, Mane, Thiago, Shaqiri and Firmino will largely need to be replaced over the coming years. Their value is already on the turn and will fall away as they get older. Of the youngsters who have been of some level of interest to Liverpool Hoppe, Hlozek, Ricky-Jade Jones, Doku and Baumgartner are all younger and very good prospects. Liverpool have some good youngsters coming through the system and need to start making use of them. They have also signed Lee Clark's youngster who is well thought of but lost out on Ben Grist.}

15 Aug 2021 14:08:14
Good luck trying to compete with City, who'll probably spend £250m this summer when we can't even afford Sanches unless its on the never never. If we don't bring kids through eventually we'll fall behind, but keep dreaming if yis like.

Looks like Ben Davies is off to Sheffield utd on loan. Shame, as it seems he will never play a competitive game for Liverpool.

Feel for the lad. Hopefully he can get his career going again.

He missed 3 and a half months of football, oh the drama!

Completely ignoring the knock-on effects this has likely had on his confidence there, Jadon.

Agree2 Disagree0

14 Aug 2021 13:48:20
Again, the drama! not being a d%$k lads but the lad would have known the score when he signed, and then he had injuries. The chances of him leaving at the seasons end were always quite large. The blokes confidence isn't suddenly going to be shot cos someone rates VVD, Gomez, Matip and Kounate ahead of him.

Agree8 Disagree0

14 Aug 2021 14:14:53
So you’re saying the guy signed at the end of Feb during our defensive crisis, turning down Celtic in the process, in the full knowledge he was very unlikely to play a game and then to be moved on in the summer?

Gotcha 👌🏼.

Agree10 Disagree0

14 Aug 2021 14:40:21
Then why didn't he play, it wasnt a grand evil scheme outa Klopp to wreck a coupla months of the blokes career. He got an injury and then when fit he was deemed inferior to a guy that had originally been meant to go to Swansea on loan and a kid who's only senior experience was non league. Surely if he was impressing more than them two he'd have played, he obviously didnt.

14 Aug 2021 15:04:03
Jebus! Give me a break. Is everybody meant to be a delicate little flower these days? I doubt spending half a year with some of the worlds best will have done him any harm whatsoever.

Imagine if he’d have been at Sheffield Utd during last season. Now that would have made his confidence dip…

Snowflake central around here.

Agree10 Disagree0

14 Aug 2021 15:20:48
No ones saying it’s a grand evil scheme apart from you.
The reasons why he didn’t play are varied I’d imagine and unknown.
But there’s no way he joined the club in the knowledge that his playing time would be extremely limited/ non existent during a defensive crisis and then he was to be moved on months later.

Agree1 Disagree0

14 Aug 2021 15:21:43
I can't take anyone who uses "snowflake" unironically seriously.

Agree8 Disagree0

14 Aug 2021 15:59:14
Im sure when he signed he would have been thought of as a better option than Phillips and Williams, he would have thought the same thing himself. Turns out for whatever reason he wasnt, who's fault (if there is actually any fault) is that exactly?

14 Aug 2021 16:57:01
I thought we had all moved on to a post ironic discourse where irony is seen as immature.

Agree1 Disagree0

14 Aug 2021 17:25:35
It's a very short career. Getting a huge opportunity at Liverpool and not getting a chance to pull on the shirt would bother anyone

I'm not saying let's start a go fund me page but don't see the problem in wishing the lad well and saying it's a shame for him. What's wrong with that?

Agree2 Disagree0

14 Aug 2021 23:04:28
Did he sign thinking he would be a starter? His choice.

Agree0 Disagree0

15 Aug 2021 07:26:06
It's a good move for him. Sheffield United will be in the mix for promotion this season. He knew the situation when he signed and I bet it's been a fabulous experience for him having spent most of his career in the lower end of the league. Good luck to him!

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - he has set his whole family up for life by joining Liverpool, got to train under some of the best coaches in the world, alongside some of the best players in the world. I really do not see how anyone can say it was a bad thing for him? He is now extremely wealthy both financially and in experience. He will have learnt so much from the coaching and being around top class players, you would expect him to have improved massively as a player due to it. If he has worked hard and listened, this should have made his career.}
