Milner off to arsenal apparently

13 May 2015 07:10:24
I would view that as a fortunate escape (for us) and breathe a heavy sigh of relief.

13 May 2015 09:27:55
Thank god for that - maybe that will force us to go out and buy real quality.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 May 2015 11:16:40
Rodgers thought Milner was real quality. Do you have the belief in him to buy a player better than Milner when he though Milner was the real deal?

Agree0 Disagree0

13 May 2015 11:17:25
I'd be disappointed.I think Milner is the perfect partner/backup to Hendo in a box-to-box midfield role while he would add much needed experience in the dressing room. He's also versatile enough to cover multiple positions and clearly better than Allen who we can then potentially sell to strengthen elsewhere where needed (thinking particularly RB/striker).

I think Milner offers something different to Coutinho/Llalana (better defensively), Lucas (better going forward), Can (more experienced), and Allen (just better. ), so while not legendary in any one particular area, he's just a strong experienced utility player that can help strengthen the spine of the team.

I'd be interested to see if the people who had a pop at the Eds over Maccas "Done Deal" comments a few weeks back offer some sort of an apology should this turn out to be true.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 May 2015 19:24:23
I can't understand all this negative attitude towards Milner. He's quality and a much better midfield option to everything we have with the exception of maybe Can and Coutinho. I'd love for him to come.

Hi Eds, been reading basically everywhere that we're interested in bring Pirlo to merseyside and i've also just read that Liverpool are willing to meet the £21.7m release cause for inigo martinez, find this hard to believe with all the centre backs we already have on the cards.

Believable0 Unbelievable12

12 May 2015 19:45:10
Its fake rumours mate. We had scouts at Soceidad to watch Carlos Vela not Iniago Martinez as reported. Ed002 was good enough to share this with us.

Pirlo is just fabrication totally made up.

12 May 2015 19:55:01
Don't really understand the pirlo interest tbh, why didn't we just keep gerrard

Agree0 Disagree0

12 May 2015 20:43:27
Liverpool don't have £20 million to spend never mind on one player,I've said many timed now expect Ings,Milner maybe a back up keeper.

12 May 2015 20:49:47
ahh okay, thanks for the info guys :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

13 May 2015 06:35:31
One point to add to Redman - as far as I understand, Gerrard didn't want to stay given the role he was now being asked to play.

Fair play to him and completely his choice, although if this is true, I am slightly miffed as, for example, Giggs and Lampard were willing to scale down their appearances in the latter part of their careers to be able to continue to play at the highest level, but more via cameo appearances than 60+ games in full every season.

Perhaps we should've offered Gerrard his new deal straight away in May/June last year, and clearly I don't know the behind the scenes politics.

Therefore, an appraoch for Pirlo doesn't seem completely unfounded to have a wiser head who can play the quarterback role. However, I do agree that it is extremely unlikely.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 May 2015 08:31:07
Pirlo would crash and burn in the EPL, it's ten times faster then Serie A. Great player but not suited at all, £21m is a joke for his age even if we had the cash.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 May 2015 10:00:03
Max, have a re-read of the OP. It doesn't suggest we are offering £21m for Pirlo

Thanks, just booked an appointment with specsavers

13 May 2015 22:07:12
@Max Renn - Did you watch Pirlo play against England during the world cup? Against Real Madrid tonight? The man is a door opener. He breathes life into system. Switches play with a level of accuracy you just don't see in the EPL. Silk personified. Probably the greatest passer in the world still, at the age of 35, so stop whining. We would be very very lucky if this rumour was even remotely true.

Ed001

Do you no if we do have firm interest in Benteke or is it just speculation at this stage. Also do you think he would fit in ok with us?

Believable2 Unbelievable2

{Ed001's Note - I am not sure, I know we had interest in the past, before his injuries, I really hope we don't but it wouldn't surprise me if we had interest in a player so unsuited to our play.}

12 May 2015 21:13:02
I prefer him to ings that's for damn sure.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 May 2015 18:30:47
Maybe we are planning to change our play with the booting of BR.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 May 2015 19:40:39
Ed1 agreed, seems like Carroll all over again. We're in desperate need for a striker so look to someone who is suited to a far more direct style of play than ours and has a history of injury problems- with the management only seeing that on form, in the right system he's a real handful and the fact he consistently plays well against us.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 May 2015 19:47:32
Cheers for reply Ed. Your right though i bet we do end up going for him. You still expect a 20m+ Striker to arrive on top of Ings?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - depends on sales. I never expected a 20m+ striker to arrive on top of Ings at any point.}

12 May 2015 21:19:43
Spot on eds, we don't need a target man

Agree0 Disagree0

12 May 2015 22:21:02
Ok mate cheers for reply, so we could well have our lot once Ings arrives.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - it really does depends on so many things it is impossible to say right now. A lot depends on who is making the transfer decisions this summer. Also who can be sold. Etc.}

12 May 2015 16:20:04
Hi Ed, nice forum here.

Do you agree in saying Liverpool would be capable of signing Firmino for 20-25 million? Considering Hoffenheim have no European football next season, if we could negotiate successfully for a change then surely Firmino could be an LFC player this summer!

Believable1 Unbelievable3

{Ed002's Note - No, not at all.}

12 May 2015 13:16:02
ed did you mention on another page casillas wanted to come to england? would we be interested?

Believable1 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - I would doubt it but Casillas might yet be an expensive option for Arsenal or Liverpool, but he is certainly very keen on a move to England. Real Madrid will offer him an extension if they cannot bring in the goalkeeper they desire.}

12 May 2015 14:55:09
He's had more changers than mignolet this season .

Agree0 Disagree0

12 May 2015 12:08:40
Hi all, haven't been on in ages.

Eds is there any interest in Matteo Darmian from Torino? Think he and Flano could more than solve the right back problem for the foreseeable future. He's also MUCH better than Montoya who I really do not rate at all.

Cheers

Believable3 Unbelievable3

{Ed002's Note - Yes, but not from Liverpool.}

12 May 2015 15:28:18
Chelsea then ed to replace ivanovic if he doesn't sign

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Chelsea has an interest if Ivanovic doesn't extend, but they have already agreed a move for a young right back this summer and have a couple of others on the books. I suspect Ivanovic will agree the extension - but nothing is signed just yet.}

12 May 2015 11:48:11
a certain James Pearce from the Echo has said this morning that Liverpool are looking at Benteke.

Make of it what you will.

Hi eds, do we have any interest in Heung-min Son? I'd love to see him play for us.
Thanks in advance

Believable3 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - A number of clubs have sustained interest in Bayer Leverkusen's Heung Min Son. Liverpool, Spurs and CSKA Moscow have all had representation at games in recent weeks and are maintaining an interest, or in the case of Liverpool rekindling it as an alternative to Vietto. However, Bayer Leverkusen have no desire or need to sell and the player is apparently happy and looking forward to playing in the Champions League in Westphalia. I suspect any transfer would be difficult at best.}

12 May 2015 11:22:53
Hi ed,
Echo reporting we are linked with falcao for 20m and kokavic for 15m. Apparetly we have lost out on milner. Just wanted your thoughts on this

Believable0 Unbelievable3

{Ed002's Note - It means the sweet shop is open if true. Falcao, (who will be really expensive with really high wages) joining would mean that then the club and the manager will have made the fans very happy with the "marquee" signing everyone craves.

As for Kovacic as I explained last week, Piero Ausilio, Inter's Sporting Director who was just entering a restaurant to discuss the transfer of the player, told a Spanish journalist that Liverpool had made a "funny little joke" with a €10M offer.}

12 May 2015 12:31:36
Does anyone rate Falcao anymore? Can he play regular football, cause we have a main striker who can't already. I just don't think this is a sensible move in any way, money, results, quality or consistency.

Used the search function regarding turan And your last reply was two months old. Has there been any uptades on turan and have we rekindled our interest on him?

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - Ahmet Bulut continues to whip things up, but this time he is correct that Arda Turan will very probably be available to move in the summer - however it will take a bid of around €40M for any sort of deal to happen - plus very significant wages and plus Champions League football. Atletico Madrid have twice rejected offers from Schalke but the only club that has shown any real interest at this time is Galatasaray, and the cost would be an issue. Don't rule out interest from Bayern Munich or Manchester United at some point. Bulut has spoken with a number of sides about the player - and there remains aslim chance that Atrsenal could turn to Arda. Atletico will negotiate as they need the money for the summer with bids for Cavani and Vietto coming.}

12 May 2015 19:37:57
I heard we were after him. He's a Liverpool fan and has stated himself that he dreams of playing for us. Considering we need desperately need a top quality CM with experience, why not? He has won la liga and played in a champions league final.

Ed would you say if sterling were too leave his options are arsenal and city. don't seem him settling in madrid and chelsea like you said have different interests.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - As I have explained, his agent has been running around figuring out what options he has available. He clearly stumbled over such things as the Webster Ruling as well - you will need to search, as I previously explained it.}

12 May 2015 10:32:46
Sorry ed will have a gander now just thought i'd asked as seen your response on another page.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - To save you the bother DR as others will soon be asking about the Webster Ruling: I should caveat this by saying it is really, really unlikely to happen, but as of mid December this year Sterling could indeed buy out the final year of his contract, effectively making himself a free agent at the end of next season. It would not allow him to talk with other clubs outside of the EPL in January though. This is why I have repeatedly stated that if he does not agree a new deal by the Summer I would expect the club to listen to offers - regardless of all of the nonsense spouted by Rodgers on the matter. But I would stress that the chances of Sterling taking such action are very slim at best. If his agent has even suggested this as an option, he needs better guidance. With the two other recent issuettes and the problems over the signing of the contract, I suspect that the club are getting pretty sick of him at this time. Typically clubs don't like this sort of thing happening and they certainly don't like it happening in the public domain - sadly Rodgers is happy to air all of the in house issues with anyone who will listen.}

12 May 2015 11:28:23
Brilliant thanks again ed. It seems a lot of young players are getting misguided. i'd agree he's going just wait for the transfer fee not being as big as expected and all the fans on here moaning at you guys as too why.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 May 2015 12:36:28
Just out of curiosity, this Webster ruling, would it affect tribunal set fees?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It is of no consequence to them.}

12 May 2015 07:43:29
Sorry Eds for bothering you, but in your opinion, has the Milner not wanting to sign for Liverpool due to no champions league got any substance. Thanks in advance.
Ollivander.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I really don't know what Milner wants but he will look to his options. Liverpool remain very keen although it would not be a surprise if his wage demands were an issue.}

12 May 2015 07:55:32
Thanks Ed002

Hi eds

There's some really decent players available on a free transfer this summer. I know there's interest in Milner, but do we have any interest in Fabien Schar from Basel, Sami Khedira, Luke Garbutt, Luiz Adriano, Yevhen Konoplyanka or Andre Ayew?
Also any update on whether Jon Flanagan will sign a new contract. I know he's out until next year, but he done enough last season to warrant a new deal.
Cheers eds

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - these have all been discussed at length already.}
