John Barnes to be named new youth team development coach next week.

Believable55 Unbelievable65

Please no

Agree0 Disagree0

I really hope not!

Agree0 Disagree0

Why would people think this is a bad idea? Barnes is the greatest English player of his generation and one of Liverpool's all time best. Who better to coach youngsters

s

Agree0 Disagree0

Good player does n't mean good coach. he did n't do well when he tried it at other clubs before

Agree0 Disagree0

John Barnes is the reason I started to support the club. I was 8-9 years old and it was the first European game I saw on TV. I'm not from UK so we rarely watched any matches outside domestic leagues. Barnes was playing a good match and I thought he must be the best player in the world.

Agree0 Disagree0

Likewise bad manager doesn't mean bad coach I would be all for this if it happaned there can't be a better person for the likes of Ibe Sterling and the other young wingers to learn from surely.

Agree0 Disagree0

I see Barnes as a very intelligent man, if you've watched any of his interviews or listened to any of his phone ins, he very rarely loses a footballing argument. That being said, I've no idea if he'd be able to turn those words into coaching. It can't be a bad thing though, I'm sure he'll still have some exceptional advice to give, given his footballing ability.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ask any Tranmere fan about John Barnes! They will tell you how much of a great coach he was! NOT.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jun 2013 20:52:34
Barnes is one of the "Great" Liverpool and england player, but as a coach he is big time failure, whoever wherever barnes has coached it has been disaster and teams, players etc, have negative things to say about him, and their is a reason why Liverpool as club always have kept distance from barnes in that matter despite, barnes going through tough financial condition and had asked before several times to be involved with our academy or senior staff but yet club several times rejected, so I will be massively surprise if he gets appointed anywhere near our academy.

Since last year we have done lots of changes in our academy which has effected our players performances and style of play, I really hope people who have/had been managing our academy before should continue as they have produce players which rodgers enjoying now and rodgers should more focus on first team instead of making big changes in our already best academy in england to soon, we have always played barca style in our academy which the same Rodgers is trying to replicate in our first teams, so no need of changes especially that soon.

Agree0 Disagree0

Get in!

Agree0 Disagree0

Superb what a great manager, after his previous jobs wouldn't let him manage the under 5's tw82

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jun 2013 23:07:45
LFC legend no doubt, but listening skills need to be on full alert as I can never understand a word he says.

Agree0 Disagree0

Coaching youth development is not the same as management, the pressure's, the politics. It's a complete different animal. Barnes obviously loves Liverpool, he loves the game and seems interested in giving back to the game at the club that helped make him great, it's hugely positive and hopefully it all pays off.

Look at what Ajax have done with a lot of their retired great players and products: Bergkamp, Blind, the De Boer brothers, Van Der Saar and more have all gone back to working in youth development. Bergkamp shocked many when he decided to coach 12 year olds, but that's what he wanted to do and where he thought he could be most useful, the grass roots of the game.

Barnes' managerial short comings shouldn't be seen as a negative he loves the game and wants to helps the youth system, Sammy Lee was on watch when Gerrard, Carra and other's (before the drought) worked their way through the youth levels, he tried it in management and it didn't work for him, politics, pressures it wasn't a good fit, he's been back in youth development for some time at Bolton and loving his work doing what he's great at working with players like Luke Woodland. Management and youth development not the same thing folks, let's be fair and not judge too quickly. {Ed001's Note - Sammy Lee was not on watch then, he was a minor coach with little involvement in the youth system, thankfully. Awful coach to be honest, shame as he is a lovely feller, but he just isn't good at the job.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Personally speaking - I hold John Barnes in such high regard as an all time great player for the club and how he always speaks well & positively for the club AND been vocal for the club through recent "issues", which is more than can be said for certain other ex players.
I cannot vouch for his abilities as a manager but I for one will support him in any position the club may offer him.
(Emphasis on the word "may". )

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't know how anyone can argue that having the most skillful creative Liverpool and england player for a long while helping pass on some of those skills to young kids isn't a good idea. it's a great idea. ok we wasn't great as a manager. how many people are? but this isn't management.

Agree0 Disagree0

Great News if true. Will make a much better coach than manager. Tried to do too much too soon, i. e. throwing himself into management when he clearly wasn't ready. Too much talent not to pass it on to others.
What a player!

Agree0 Disagree0

He was on the telly last week talking about his goal vs Brazil and was wearing the Warrior training gear. I had no idea he was a part of the coaching setup

Agree0 Disagree0

Being a youth coach and being a manager are utterly different. I have no doubt that he'd make a fine coach for the youngsters.

Agree0 Disagree0

John Barnes, no offence, not a coach

Hello Ed's,
I've heard from a reliable source that we are within touching distance of coming to an agreement with Barcelona for Agger, the only stumbling block is that Liverpool have asked for Alex Song as part of the deal. Song didn't feature too much last season and Barca have no plans of bringing him to the a first team starter for the next campaign. Ed's a deal is close!

Thanks Ed's

Marco Reid {Ed023's Note - So Barnes (youth coach) and Song in and Agger out?}

Believable12 Unbelievable68

Get back revising

Agree0 Disagree0

Haha makes me laugh song really song?

Agree0 Disagree0

You've over slept again Marco.

Agree0 Disagree0

He forgot to include keegan is going to perm his hair and come back as BR number2

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jun 2013 17:47:30
Song is a cracking player!

WelshBoyDave

Agree0 Disagree0

Song is a very good versatile player. he is not leaving Barca and played more games that Masch.

Agree0 Disagree0

Utter nonsense.

Agree0 Disagree0

My thoughts and prayers go out to all your family. Delusion is a serious illness and with people who can't handle the sickness it can make other people laugh there asses off what a load of balls

Agree0 Disagree0

More to be pitied than laughed at.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think you misheard Marco - Barca said they wanted Agger and were hoping to get him for a song!

we are not interested in Benteke or lamela. Muriel is a target if suarez goes

Pricey

Believable48 Unbelievable55

Haven't the Eds said we have enquirer about benteke?

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jun 2013 16:17:14
If we aren't interested in Benteke, why did we inquire about his availability? Seems a waste of time

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jun 2013 16:49:14
muriel looks a really good player hope we get him. Tommy Irish Red {Ed030's Note - There would be major Wp issues mate. }

Agree0 Disagree0

You're Brendan Rodgers are you

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry if I'm being ignorant Ed, but what's a Wp issue?. sure i'm going to kick myself. 'wage packet'? {Ed030's Note - It means work permit mate. }

Agree0 Disagree0

Under the work permit wouldn't he come under the classification of a great talent? I have heard 002 explain that they either have to have so many caps or be considered a real talent. The fact that he is just breaking into a top top Columbian team and the likely figure he would fetch he would surely come under that category.
Sorry if I have misunderstood anything

(forgot my sign in)

Agree0 Disagree0

If we're all honest none of us know what's going on, only BR and Ian Ayre and FSG probably know what's going on.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jun 2013 11:19:22
Hey ed's

I was just wondering if there has been any recent change in regards of Douglas of FC Twente?
Not heard his name mentioned for a while and considering he is available on a free I believe could be a real bargain, despite potentially high wages/signing on fee. As I am pretty sure a few weeks ago you said that you wouldn't be surprised if Liverpool had an interest.

Thanks a lot guys. {Ed001's Note - not with regards to us, there has been talk of Newcastle showing interest, though not sure how much truth there is in that.}

Iago Aspas will be confirmed by 4pm without officially being able to join until the 1st of July

Believable45 Unbelievable45

Why the 1st of july? {Ed023's Note - That's the day the international window opens}

Agree0 Disagree0

Or maybe not?

Agree0 Disagree0

Its past 4pm now and still no confirmation what is going on!

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah or not

Agree0 Disagree0

And at 16. 52. still waiting Kam_Rayat! I smell BS my friend!

Agree0 Disagree0

Aspas announced yesterday {Ed030's Note - It wasn't mate. }

Agree0 Disagree0

How did that go for you?

Agree0 Disagree0

Is it 4 tomorrow?

Agree0 Disagree0

It will be confirmed tonight, any time from 8-10pm uk time

intitiwetrust

Agree0 Disagree0

Apologies guys. I was sure that this was going to be wrapped up by 4pm. Medical is taking longer than expected. He will sign a four year contract.

Agree0 Disagree0

He had is medical on tuesday and passed.

Agree0 Disagree0

He has finished medical, paperwork is reason for delay I reckon

Agree0 Disagree0

Bs. U don't know sh*t

Agree0 Disagree0

Did this flump mean 4 in the morning!

Agree0 Disagree0

So is it between 8 and 10pm tonight, 4am tomorrow, 4pm tomorrow or 8 to 10pm tomorrow and has he passed a medical or not? Oh I am so confused!

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks for the false info mate!

Agree0 Disagree0

Well least we will know we will sign him and that is the main thing.

12 Jun 2013 09:38:06
Ed's I have already read the posts but found nothing. so can u please tell me if there are any updates in our pursuit of henrikh mkhitaryan?
Would really appreciate it!
Thanks! {Ed001's Note - there is nothing new to say.}

I heard PSV's director say that Strootman would do well in Liverpool or Tottenham sometime ago. Are we really interested in him Eds? {Ed001's Note - not heard of any interest in him from us.}

After sealing Iago Aspas, Liverpool FC want Alberto, Papadopoulos, Alderweireld, Mkhitaryan and Benteke.

Brad YNWA

Believable94 Unbelievable56

That is just being greedy :-)

CR

Agree0 Disagree0

All these would be fab but I wouldn't think we would need benteke

Agree0 Disagree0

Not going to happen as we have no more than 20M to spend - if Suarez goes then maybe

Agree0 Disagree0

I reckon replace Alderwield with Tiago Illori. The interest in the rest is well known.

Agree0 Disagree0

I really can't see Benteke coming.

He had a great first season, but Villa will probably want a silly amount for him.

Agree0 Disagree0

If we get them players and it means selling Suarez then so be it as that would add some quality to team and squad. to champ league you need a quality squad and that's something Liverpool never had last season up until jan we had no quality on bench

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jun 2013 12:54:52
If this were to happen I'd be very pleased with this transfer window!

Agree0 Disagree0

Probaly Just papa/Alderwield and Mkhitarayan and Alberto. Not Benteke

Agree0 Disagree0

Would be nice to see mate

Agree0 Disagree0

The two Beast's Papadopoulos and Benteke will add much needed muscle in the team while Aspas Mkitaryan and Alberto will provide the flair and skill should Suarez leave. Alderweireld is a young version of Agger and will slot straight into BR's system.

Agree0 Disagree0

If Liverpool made the push for these players top would b possible! They need more players in the squad and these players would help! I personally want to see eriksen added! Would make a big difference! If Liverpool want to progress they need to spend!

Agree0 Disagree0

Really? a team with no European football is going to buy 7 players including 5 attackers? Are we also going to sell Sturridge, coutinho, Downing and Suarez to accomodate them on the pitch?

Agree0 Disagree0

I think that would just about do it. :) That would be a great haul of players to help us push on for now and in the future, I can't see it happening but if it did then great stuff.

Agree0 Disagree0

Those 6 in & Skrtel, Coates, Shelvey, Downing, Carroll, Suarez out would leave me very happy with the summer's business and state of our squad. Maybe just a defensive midfielder/left back would make it complete.

Agree0 Disagree0

Would love this to be true but I can't see it.

Agree0 Disagree0

Someone's been reading the Daily Mirror recently.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hope so. Top four with those additions

Carlo

Agree0 Disagree0

Might want them but not sure we will get them

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jun 2013 14:34:37
Think we will have to sell a few first

Agree0 Disagree0

In

Mkhitaryan 20m
Papadopolous 15m
Aderweireld 12m
Benteke 20m
Alberto 5m

Total 72m

Out
Suarez 40m
Carrol 15m
Skrtel 10m
Shelvey 4m
Spearing 2m
Coates 5m
Total 76m

We can always dream.

Agree0 Disagree0

Remember guys if we get money from Suarez 45-50m, Skirtle 8-10, and Shelvey 6m, Assaidi 4m plus 25m transfer kitty then we will have more than enough for these players 85-90m to spend.

Agree0 Disagree0

You obviously have read the daily mirror as players would Liverpool would like.

Agree0 Disagree0

Might have a small chance of finishing 5th with that lot.

Agree0 Disagree0

Papadopolous, Ilori, Alberto, Mkhitaryan, Aspas and hopefully Tello (Mignolet if Reina leaves) and I think top 4 is achievable

Agree0 Disagree0

Won't happen

Agree0 Disagree0

I am worried that we might not have a big enough squad with these additions!

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jun 2013 19:48:49
This is BR's first big transfer window. I can see us making a fair amount from sales and FSG putting up £20m themselves - this list is possible, maybe not papa due to asking price, perhaps Ilori instead. LFC back-and-boardroom staff will have to be busy if we're to bring in at least five and move on at least 4

Agree0 Disagree0

I would rather see mario gomez than benteke and eriksen instead of mkhitaryan also diame
line up. reina.
johnson. papa. alderweireld. enrique.
. gerrard. diame. coutinho. eriksen. alberto.
. gomez.

. subs wisdom, toure, lucas, allen, aspas, sturridge
also look at getin alcantara in any agger deal with barca

Agree0 Disagree0

I would love us to make some decent signings as mentioned above and move some of the players that BR clearly doesn't want out but do any of you really think Ian Ayre and the clowns at the Plaza can pull it off? I certainly don't.

Morning Ed001,

Sorry to interrupt you from your cup of earl grey mate.

Just wondered if you have seen much of this Alberto lad? don't follow any of the spanish second division and I've only seen small clips on Youtube. Just wanted to know if you have seen much of him this year and what kind of player he is?

And are Barcelona likely to take up the option of buying him before the dealine expires?

Cheers

Sam Adzii JFT96 YNWA {Ed001's Note - I haven't seen much of him, a couple of games I have half watched, but not had the chance to actually sit down and watch him fully. Barca are struggling to raise any money, it is unlikely they will take up their option because of that.}

Believable22 Unbelievable2

Cheers for that mate! I guess its a good sign if Barca want him, suprised they can't afford him though! How much are Sevilla liekly to want for him?

Did all their money for the summer go on that pre madonna Neymar!

Sam Adzii JFT96 YNWA {Ed001's Note - they have an agreed price, but yes they did spend a hell of a lot on Neymar and need to shift some out.}

Agree0 Disagree0

With barca struggling to raise funds surely some of their fringe players will be up for sale

The chances of West Ham on-loan striker Andy Carroll making his move from Liverpool a permanent one are 75/25, according to Hammers co-chairman David Gold.
Caroll has been involved in ongoing talks with West Ham about staying at the club and now Gold has confirmed to his 70,000 plus Twitter followers that the deal at last looks on. He tweeted on Tuesday evening: "The chances of AC joining West Ham have risen from 50/50 to 75/25 in the last few hours. "

Believable44 Unbelievable9

I hope carroll does go and if he does we can get another top class striker like Gomez

Agree0 Disagree0

75/25? isn't that 3/1 in the real world?
RNred

Agree0 Disagree0

In your opinion is Mkhitryan (spelling) to replace AC or for Suarez should/when he leaves?

Agree0 Disagree0

From past activities, this means the sale of season tickets has just started!

Agree0 Disagree0

Lol nevermind 50/50 or 75/25, I just want him 100% gone!

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jun 2013 12:21:50
RNred - no, in the real world 75/25 is a 75% chance of it happen. 4/1 :)

Agree0 Disagree0

I think andy will go to west ham. It's a good fit for him under big Sam I honestly wish the lad all the best
That goal against the bitters in the semi final last year was worth 20 million loss wer going to make on him

Davylivercabs

Agree0 Disagree0

If the chances of it happening were 75% and you put a bet on at odds which reflected this you would get 1/3 (i. e. 1 time its wrong, 3 times its right, total of 4 times)

Agree0 Disagree0

I can't work out if this post is about Carroll, GCSE Maths or betting on the horses?

Agree0 Disagree0

If I were you guys I would be more worried about suabiter than Andy Carrol. We [West Ham]will take Andy because he is making defenders hunt in pairs and worry where he is. Who is replacing suabiter.

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't count your chickens before they've hatched. I'll believe it when it's official, but not a moment sooner.

And Dorse, don't you worry about Suarez mate. Either we get 40-60m and build a much better squad, or we keep a world-beater. Not too worried about that one. What worries me is what we'll do with the money once we get it. At least we can't do worse than break the British transfer record for a lumbering oaf.

Agree0 Disagree0

God I hope so. keep everything crossed!

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jun 2013 04:15:21
is the aspas deal done? wasn't he supposed to have a medical on tuesday.

Believable35 Unbelievable8

It will be confirmed by the end of today. just wrapping everything up now as we speak

intitiwetrust {Ed001's Note - our medicals are just very in depth and so take a while.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I think it is done but we need confirmation of it. YNWA like dan agger on his knuckles

Agree0 Disagree0

His agent says "some beuaracratic issues are holding the deal. " but nothing to worry :D

Eds, what's the latest on Jack Robinson. Didn't see him this season, even with Enrique's loss of form early on. Is he progressing as expected? How did he do on loan? Can we expect another loan next season? Thanks! {Ed001's Note - he played as cover and didn't perform so he went out on loan. He did do well, overall, for Wolves, not sure it was enough to get him in the team this season though. Seems more likely he will go out on loan again.}

Believable11 Unbelievable4

Hey ed, if Robinson leaves out on loan, we should search for some sort of cover, right?

Drigan {Ed001's Note - yes.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Really hope we do show an interest in Alex Sandro Ed. If I remember correctly it was you that mentioned we were monitoring Alex Sandro and the young LB from Spain. Isn't it? {Ed001's Note - yes.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I did read one the LFC website about Robinson before he went off with the under 21s, he had an interview on there and he said the plan was that Rodgers was to send him on loan again this season to get a full seasons worth of football.

Agree0 Disagree0

Do you know what the name of the spanish lb is ed? {Ed030's Note - Jon Aurtenetxe mate. }

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks for the reply Ed!

A year loan would do him well. Any links to specific clubs that might be interested? Shame about Wolves.

Also hope we make a move for Aurtenetxe. A year younger than Sandro and about one third the price. Bilbao do hate losing their Basque youngsters though.
