Shaqiri medical tomorrow after £13m fee agreed.

An absolute bargain for a top squad player. The type of signing that end up being critical as the season goes on.

Agree36 Disagree16

12 Jul 2018 23:23:05
It’s certainly looking that way, like it or lump it.

Agree8 Disagree9

12 Jul 2018 23:25:22
No doubt the boy has skills but it’s his attitude that worries me. Maybe JK will change him so if he signs he should be given the chance to prove us wrong. Decent money for a player of his calibre. His last chance though I reckon at a decent club.

Agree9 Disagree6

12 Jul 2018 23:41:53
There's no way at least

1. He has no idea how we play and how hard we work

2. Klopp going to or already has told him what to expect.

If he signs I'm hoping it's because he wants to show the world what we can do.

Agree19 Disagree3

12 Jul 2018 23:47:15
Time for tears, sulking and tantrums, and that’s just from people on this site!

Agree16 Disagree4

13 Jul 2018 00:00:19
A bargain.
Klopp will get his work rate up and he will give the squad a little more depth and quality.
If he wants game time he will have to up the work rate and I'm certain klopp will get more out of him than stoke did.

Agree23 Disagree1

13 Jul 2018 00:36:46
I’m really mixed about this idea of this transfer, but willing to reserve judgment until I’ve actually seen him play.

However, I do feel like if he joins it means the writing is on the wall for Wilson/ Ojo this season. Maybe I could be wrong though!

Agree16 Disagree0

13 Jul 2018 01:20:15
If it’s true I’ll be positive about him until he gives me good reason to be negative.

Agree12 Disagree2

13 Jul 2018 01:36:56
13 million for shaqiri well worth a chance. Can’t be worse than 20 on markovich. He will come in handy as the season goes on. Nice to see carra back on sky as well. Let’s hope he doesn’t spit all over Neville.

Agree20 Disagree1

13 Jul 2018 02:45:06
I've read somewhere Ojo will be part of the deal, I don't say its true just passing by what i've read.

Agree5 Disagree1

13 Jul 2018 05:37:54
4 years really is a long time. Maybe its because then it was Bayern and now its Stoke?

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jul 2018 05:51:36
I read it was Harry Wilson on a loan deal.

Agree2 Disagree2

13 Jul 2018 07:05:39
It’s has always been documented that the release clause was 12 million so why would we pay 13?
Also we don’t need to throw in any players as a sweetener - if there is a release clause and we pay that amount he comes to us providing he wants to.
They may take one of our players on loan but I can’t see Klopp agreeing to release any of our best youngsters before pre season hasn’t properly started.

Agree2 Disagree3

13 Jul 2018 07:24:28
I think we had concerns of similar nature about Mane, Wijnaldum and Keita before they joined. Mane and Gini have been impeccable in terms of attitude so hopefully Shaqiri will also turn a page and start playing for the team.

We must admit though, what a player! I think he must be the best YouTube player ever because when he does score his strikes are stunning.

Agree7 Disagree2

13 Jul 2018 07:31:01
Bad egg in the squad.

Agree6 Disagree13

13 Jul 2018 08:47:56
Can’t go wrong at £12/ 13m if it doesn’t work then we would at least get our money back. And if it does work out it’s an absolute bargain. This is a quality addition to the squad as he’s definitely a good footballer.

Agree11 Disagree0

13 Jul 2018 08:58:02
anyone who had issues with the workrate of keita or mane before they joined needs their heads testing.

good player is shaqiri, i wanted him about 6 years ago. i also don't think he is as lazy as people suggest. in the current market, he's value would be nearer £30million i would think.

Agree8 Disagree2

13 Jul 2018 09:09:58
Somehow this reminds me of the Balotelli deal. Hope he proves me wrong.

Agree5 Disagree6

13 Jul 2018 09:15:00
For me he is a good squad player and i think will prove to be a good impact sub. Like many i rate his skills and with his natural left foot, he has proven that his shot from distance is worth a few quid alone. Work rate for me only issue, but maybe he is lazy with Stoke as he doesn't care so much about them?
That doesn't make it good by the way but hopefully we'll see a different side to him like with Switzerland.

Agree0 Disagree1

13 Jul 2018 09:59:47
I am sure the management team have spoke to him and like his attitude. They would not sign a bad egg and disrupt the squad.

Every year it is the same people whinging about players before they sign and recent signings have proved people wrong. Have faith.

I know who I would have rather come on in the final when Salah went off.

Welcome to LFC.

Agree6 Disagree1

13 Jul 2018 10:02:10
At the end of the day he's a 65min sub when squad at full strength. im sure he can work hard for 25mins. Majority of time we'll prob be 2 up anyway. Klopp ain't daft when shaqiri plays so will milner to cover his ass. Southampton just spent the same for a reserve? keeper. WC proved when he's got the bit between his teeth he's does work hard. Being in a winning team will bring that out. getting stuffed every week doesnt.

Agree5 Disagree0

13 Jul 2018 11:07:21
Not convinced or liking this transfer personally, but if Klopp sees something in him and he joins then I'll back him. Just hoping we fix the goalkeeper situation sooner rather than later.

Agree1 Disagree0

13 Jul 2018 11:07:29
Think its a cracking signing for the price, Klopp will get him straight, no disrespect but his last 2 managers of Hughes of Lambert aren't exactly on Klopps level, he will be a bargain.

Agree2 Disagree1

13 Jul 2018 11:41:10
Best signing for the price. Hope he can prove himself at LFC.

Agree1 Disagree0

13 Jul 2018 11:51:41
Are new super sub😁 sound!

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jul 2018 12:02:03
Please, if true, let him show us and the rest of the EPL what he's got in his locker, and not turn into another Balotelli.

Agree0 Disagree1

13 Jul 2018 12:41:19
The only thing I am concerned about is his personal terms! If he does come in and it is clearly not working out for Liverpool and himself and we do want to move him how attractive would his salary be to another team even if they price is $10m.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jul 2018 12:59:39
He’s quite talented but very lazy with a poor attitude.
He will likely be an impact sub so if he can put in 200% effort in the 15-20 minutes a game he will likely get then he can be effective, big if though, Klopp and the coaching team have their work cut out.

Agree1 Disagree1

13 Jul 2018 13:14:51
Bad eggs/ attitudes don't last long in Klopps' squads. Anyone remember a player called Shako?

Agree0 Disagree2

{Ed002's Note - Who do you want to replace Keita with then?}

13 Jul 2018 13:30:58
Exactly. It's very hard to keep motivated when your losing.

Not many can crack on. Let's see how he gets on in a winning team with a happy camp and an insanely good manager. Oh and the kop. Also Salah, mane, firmino, keita, fabinho, Henderson, vvd. Yano not shawcross or anything. an er maybe fekir or summit ;)

Agree1 Disagree1

13 Jul 2018 13:32:04
He's ok Ed002. He's allowed to sulk ha ha. Klopp will sort them all out hopefully when it comes to the sulking. I got the feeling on a few occasions that Mane was trying it on but it was sorted out and he finished the season very strong. Could have easily gone the other way.

Agree0 Disagree3

{Ed002's Note - Sulking is not his issue. He is a complete jerk on and off the field.}

13 Jul 2018 15:48:09
Massively underwhelmed by Shakira's signing unless she can play in goal of course.

12 Jul 2018 19:46:54
Hello all! I really do believe that we have a squad to be at least in the top 4 every season but for me what we really need is a cup win. Yes I know it's the league we want but a cup win would I believe would really get the ball rolling for us.

Believable36 Unbelievable0

12 Jul 2018 20:05:34
Agree Barry, it's time for us to win a trophy.

Agree18 Disagree0

12 Jul 2018 20:12:40
Make you right BIL about winning a cup will give us that winning mentality which we sorely miss.

Agree15 Disagree1

12 Jul 2018 20:26:57
Totally agree, we've got to break that ice somewhere along the line.

Agree11 Disagree0

12 Jul 2018 20:34:38
Good point but I really think we will win the league this year. After the strides we made last season I think we’ve recruited far better than any other team. I really think city are going to be caught out big time this year. I think there will be far less of a fear factor.

Agree9 Disagree1

12 Jul 2018 20:41:42
This is the longest trophy drought I remember,7 seasons a season longer than the last. Any trophy will do me this season. In 13 years we've won 1 trophy for me that's not good enough. I hope we can juggle the squad enough to compete on 4 fronts. That means staying in the cups so that our young players can get a run in the team and be ready when called upon. Towards the end of last season we had Camacho Woodburn and Jones on the bench but I can understand Klopp's reluctance to use them especially after the Chelsea match when every game was a must not lose.

Agree4 Disagree1

12 Jul 2018 20:58:45
When we win the league, the flood gates will open methinks.

Agree1 Disagree3

12 Jul 2018 21:08:35
It’s fair to say we are hopeful of a win this year. Perhaps silverware is highly possible. But iwe our unrealistic pressures on ourselves by saying we will win this year. The players haven’t set foot on the pitch, transfers aren’t over the line, injuries could happen or hopefully not. I really do think the Premier League has evolved into such an interesting league! We now have a top 6 divide which rests on a knife edge, underdog teams like Leicester possible of winning the league with pure grit and now teams like Wolves who have the potential to re-establish themselves as a force in the league from a lower league. Sadly a lot of this is down to spending power in my opinion but who wins the league each year is not so foreseeable!
Whether we can get silverware or more depends on how we play game to game (obviously) so let’s keep on backing our team for a tasty season of attacking football and hope we’re rewarded at the end of it!

Agree2 Disagree0

12 Jul 2018 21:24:11
We have a champions league finalist in our team.

Agree1 Disagree4

12 Jul 2018 21:28:28

Agree2 Disagree0

13 Jul 2018 00:02:14
Agreed. Let's forget the league title and go after the league cup.

Seriously what difference does it make!

Agree1 Disagree1

13 Jul 2018 02:20:35
Let's go after every game next season.

Agree4 Disagree0

13 Jul 2018 09:40:51
I saw a post from MKS the other day relating to our "success" and nearly responded stating "how have we been successful? we've not won anything since Klopp's arrival! ". then I realized success is "the accomplishment of an aim or purpose".

We aimed to improve our squad - accomplished (and still improving! )

We aimed for top 4 - accomplished in back to back seasons

Now our aim has to be to get that silverware! - I'm aware we have tried and failed on 3 occasions in finals : (

Let make 2018/ 2019 the year for silverware!

Agree5 Disagree0

13 Jul 2018 16:32:33
It's going to be a long season with lots of games. It is important to remember we won't win them all. So please do not rip the team / club to shreds when we do loose.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed033's Note - What should Liverpool FC do if there are any loose shreds? :)

12 Jul 2018 12:46:26
Heard a rumour it was to do with John Achterberg why Buvac left.

Believable5 Unbelievable12

12 Jul 2018 13:47:02
Nope.
It was Klopp.
Buvac has felt increasingly under-minded by him for a couple of years. He finally couldn't take it anymore.

Agree5 Disagree11

12 Jul 2018 15:07:00
It was a dilution of his importance within the first team coaching.

Agree7 Disagree1

12 Jul 2018 16:49:27
Read something while back about a late sub, JA is in charge of player subs and buvac wanted lalana either on or off but it cost us a goal, against chelsea i believe. Anyway the story was buvac and JA haven't spoken since which was early last season.

Agree2 Disagree3

12 Jul 2018 17:25:30
Doubt it was over a single incident, these people are professionals.

Agree13 Disagree0

12 Jul 2018 17:35:33
If this is the case even more reason to want to be rid of Achterberg, he's done nothing for the keepers he's gas under his 'tutelage' in the last 7 years.

Agree10 Disagree6

12 Jul 2018 17:50:55
I very much Klopp would have gone against his trusty 'Brain' after working with him for so long to protect Achterberg. I am not even going to speculate on what it was. As said it was probably a whole host of things and Buvac decided it was time to move on. let's leave it at that and do the same.

Agree10 Disagree1

12 Jul 2018 20:17:37
I just don't get how Achterberg is still our keeper coach, he might well be liked, but he's done nothing to improve any of the keepers he's had to coach since he stepped up to the senior coaching setup, maybe sobe of the m haven't been great to start with, but surely some of them would at least look like a good keeper, rather than decent at best.

Agree1 Disagree2

{Ed002's Note - It isKlopp who really likes him and has given him more responsibility so you should be looking at getting Klopp out in order to get the change you want.}

12 Jul 2018 20:33:55
Only at Liverpool could the supporters regularly criticize the goalkeeper coach, somebody that 99% of supporters have never seen what he does or how he does it. This is a man that has been goalkeeper coach at the club under 3 different managers, he must be doing something right.

Agree6 Disagree3

{Ed001's Note - that is nonsense. It would be the same at any club that had the problems with goalkeepers that their coach had failed to rectify.}

13 Jul 2018 00:09:38
The goalkeeping situation has little to do with JA. We had a weak defensive line up with little or no protection from the midfield. Awful wingbacks in clyne and Moreno and we leaked goals.

VVD comes in TAA and Robertson and suddenly Karius is being praised by the fans for his improvement.

Then one bad game and JA is the bad guy and the cause of all Liverpool's problems.

Agree1 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - er no, you are making stuff up, no one praised Karius for his improvement. And the keeper situation has everything to do with Achterberg or he is not doing his job. What a ridiculous post you just made. Sometimes I wonder if people are just being deliberately obtuse.}

13 Jul 2018 00:45:24
Karius has not improved! He was solid during last season but rarely made 'big' saves when needed. The reason he looked a better option than Mignolet was because he was less tentative under the high ball/ corners and our defense gave away fewer good chances.

Ward for me has looked our best shot stopper. Just not sure about his distribution and communication.

Agree3 Disagree3

13 Jul 2018 13:01:37
He’s resigned I know that much lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Jul 2018 14:02:26
Ed001 my point was around the fans generally feeling karius had improved. Many comments on this site to that effect towards the end of last season. My point was that the defence improved dramatically and was less exposed.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - and most comments said exactly that. The comments about improvement mostly related to him over Mignolet, not him improving himself.}

12 Jul 2018 09:30:45
Ed have we put a bid in for Alisson? Some reports from Italy saying we have.

Believable1 Unbelievable7

{Ed001's Note - no bid has gone in from us.}

12 Jul 2018 09:44:26
Thanks ed are we even talking with Roma about a deal?

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - not as of yesterday we hadn't.}

12 Jul 2018 13:56:08
Eds can you put this to bed, is there an actual chance of us even bidding for him?! It seem to be more hope than anythig.

Agree0 Disagree3

{Ed001's Note - how can I judge that? Nothing has happened yet, if something changes then I can say that, but I can't judge chances of a change.}

12 Jul 2018 14:25:53
Come on Tris, give us an answer between 1 and Tyranosaurus.

Agree6 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - isosceles triangle.}

12 Jul 2018 14:37:54
So we are not going round in circles and we can square this rumour off then?

Don’t want to go off on a tangent but it’s just like a Rubick’s cube in the number of possibilities.

Agree2 Disagree0

12 Jul 2018 15:25:27
There’s more chance of Alison Moyet starting between the sticks for us than this fella. 🙈.

12 Jul 2018 15:48:36
Thanks I guess Ed, but that answer could potentially be intepreted as obtuse. I'm sure you meant it to come across as acute though.

Be interesting to see what he has to say, or the Ed's can just shoot this rumour down which would be upsetting lol.

Believable8 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - I said all along I expected him to join. The lad wants to join us.}

12 Jul 2018 09:44:16
Is that why Harry is banned again? 😂.

Agree4 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - I don't know, he has never been banned for that before. He doesn't hide his new name to pretend to be someone else and back his posts up, so it is not so bad what he does.}

12 Jul 2018 09:59:20
He couldn't hide his name if he tried Ed. As soon as someone mentions any Crotian midfielder he blows his cover and starts gushing 😉 you are right though. He's a good bloke at heart and he doesn't ever try to be deceitful.

Agree15 Disagree0

12 Jul 2018 10:00:31
Oh crap, I didn’t mean to get him/ her banned if you hadn’t spotted it. I just thought it was funny. I assumed this went on a lot. May as well say that I post as Salah as well 😉.

Thanks for the reply Ed. Some papers are suggesting krychowiak is high on our list of targets. But if you haven't heard then I will go on the presumption it is not true.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - PSG have been trying to offload him for two summers now, very little interest has been shown in him from clubs that could afford him.}

12 Jul 2018 11:44:06
are PSG demanding a very high price for him? i think he was at sevilla and was very highly rated. How did he ever end up on a loan with west brom?

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - PSG would likely look for €20M but accept less for Grzegorz Krychowiak. They had discussions with Sevilla for a return there but they have since added Amadou to replace Pizaro but could yet see him come in following Johannes Geis' loan.}

{Ed001's Note - I have no idea what you are talking about, I have not heard any rumours about him at all.}

12 Jul 2018 07:50:34
Given the number of players we have in his preferred poison who are more talented, there’s only one obvious conclusion. He’s being considered as a goalkeeper.
It’s a bold move from Klopp, but I can respect it. I tried something similar in my 2012 FM save, only it was Crouch as a centre back.
