Quick question ed. Is Karius still being permanently offloaded? If so what is the rough figure we are expecting? If those funds pay for milamino then we have still technically not spent.

{Ed001's Note - yes he is being sold but it doesn't work like that.}

Hey Ed1, Seen the links to the Salzburg lad, milamino, but I was more impressed with the Korean lad, what’s think?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - Lee Hwang? No end product at all though with him. At least Minamino was just inconsistent.}

Best to get Haaland if the rumours of 17.5m clause are true. these 2 would replace shaw in squad also cover for wings/ firmino.

Halaand doesn't strike me as our 'type' of forward.

13 Dec 2019 13:25:16
He is good but just reminds me of a Shearer type of striker. I don't think he has the mobility to play in our forward line.

A very good player, but not suited to our type of play.

Jaysus Walter, you must REALLY like Jurgen if you want his statue to have an erection!

The Salzburg sporting director, Christoph Freund, said on Thursday that the club had held discussions with Liverpool. “I can confirm that there are talks with Liverpool at the moment. It is an honour [for us] to see the calibre of clubs who are interested in our players. ”

I guess there is some truth behind the Minamino rumours after all.

James Pearce tweeted a couple hours ago that Minamino moving to Liverpool is "highly likely".

I really liked the look of Minamino, albeit admittedly from a very small sample set of matches.

Seems to be very versatile player to cover any of the front three positions and a more natural like replacement for our style of play than a Origi or Shaqiri.

Also reminds me a bit of Son with his ability to play all across the front line, and who I’ve always thought would be perfect fit for us.

Ed1, what do you make of this as a potential transfer? A good addition?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - looks a very good player but I have only seen him against us and he only looked good when we sat back. Just look at the second half, he was anonymous. So difficult to judge him as they were not giving him the ball and he was not able to get it back on his own. I certainly would not be against signing him from what I saw, though his end product was very inconsistent, at best.}

12 Dec 2019 14:32:05
Cheers Ed, you’re not usually wrong about players so if your even half on board with it, it’s a good sign for me.

Agree3 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - if those games are a good indicator, then he is probably the best option I have seen to slot into our team in recent months.}

Also consider the price, a reported release clause of 7.5 million. In today's market that's a steal.

Agree3 Disagree0

12 Dec 2019 15:28:39
Well that escalated quickly.

End of the road for Shaq? I know he would've played more often without injuries, but there isn't exactly a massive hole in the squad when he's missing.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Dec 2019 16:23:05
He seems to be keen and has the right attitude to play and press which is a good start, I bet he can’t believe his luck that we are interested. I thought we would be linked with him and Haaland after the game as it seems to be the way, but this one seems to have legs.

We have said for a while we are looking for a creative midfielder and cover for the wings and he looks like he could offer both.

When Salzburg were on it, he was always involved and we are most likely to have the ball and be required to break teams down, which he looks like he will help do! For the reported fee, looks a steal.

Agree1 Disagree0

12 Dec 2019 19:03:35
Ed2 said the release clause is irrelevant to us so I expect it to be more than the £7.5mil reported.
Regardless though I think he looks a player and would do well for us if it happens.

{Ed002's Note - That would be Liverpool’s srarti g point,}

We welcome Minamino (on 1/ 1/ 2020)
£7.25m. that's the money from selling Kent very well spent ;)

12 Dec 2019 23:11:52
Cheers Ed2. Do you think that Salzburg’s president making the talks public are a tactic to bring other teams in to drive the price up? I wouldn’t blame him if it was he’s got to be worth more than £7m in today’s market.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - No.}

13 Dec 2019 13:39:48
To be fair ed001, regarding your point of him being at his best when we sat back, the majority of the teams we face, particularly in the league tend to sit back for large portions of the game. I think on of the only problems we’ve had over the last couple of seasons is breaking down teams who sit back and this lad could be the final piece in the jigsaw!

If Minamino is indeed brought in, then i'd say he's a good replacement for Shaqiri. Minamino accelerates faster, has a wider range of play on the field (Shaq is mostly right sided) and I feel he could probably take on the defensive aspect that Klopp requires from his midfielders, far better. I too, saw him play only twice (against us) and went through some videos. There's a quickness in thinking and movement that suits our game very well. He's 24, therefore moving into his prime years; so maybe the inconsistency will settle down. Who knows, but he looks good.

Salzburg have confirmed that they are negotiating with LFC the sale of Minamini (spelling) . A very good addition he will be.

£7.5m buyout clause they’ll make that back on Nike jerseys alone in Japan 😂.

Agree5 Disagree0

12 Dec 2019 16:05:47
Do the club make that back? I thought the idea of Nike paying us loads of money to manufacture jerseys was so that they could make money off of selling them? If we make money off of the sales as well why are Nike even bothering? Or are there percentages to this i. e. Nike gets 80% of the profit, Liverpool 20%, or something like this?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Just ignore all of the numbers.}

13 Dec 2019 05:53:53
It’s the new structure that the shirt deal that people are referring to mate, probably far too complicated for the Ed’s to go into specific numbers for us, but roughly speaking we get a smaller upfront fee than we did from NB but hope to ultimately make more money by increasing shirt sales. I believe that the ‘Asia’ market was one of Liverpool’s important factors in wanting to go with Nike and so to us lay people it looks like a well thought out prospect, decent player, increased LFC awareness in Japan therefore more short sales and more revenue. God knows if any of that is actually what happens though 🤷‍♂️.

It seems we are indeed after Minamino in January then Ed002?

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Augsburg were keen in the summer and at one time Everton and Dynamo Moscow had scouts look at Takumi Minamino. His agent and a third party lawyer have held discussions recently with Werder Bremen about the player and seemingly Liverpool are interested, but I am not aware of any offer being made just yet.}

12 Dec 2019 10:44:03
Ed002, with this Takumi Minamino news splattered all over the internet, was he always on our radar, or is this just a fortuitous or spontaneous move because we played them twice and he was consistent in both legs and was arguably their best player across both games? Any further insight you could share about the evolution of this potential move will be appreciated.

Thanks.

PakRed why would we do that when we are sending out Curtis Jones and Brewster on loan?

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Dec 2019 10:41:59
I agree - if we get him I think it’s more likely we see others go out on loan (Brewster for playing time) or even sold (Shaqiri doesn’t feel a long term solution) .

I suspect Minamino is thought of as someone capable of covering both wings or even Firmino’s ‘playmaker 9’ role, so arguably better fit in our system than anything we’ve currently got.

Paul Joyce just put out an article saying Liverpool are close to signing Minamino in January who has a release clause of 7.25m.

What an exciting player/ addition he would be! Very impressed with him and Hwang.
