Shearer hit the nail on the head we need a leader in defence who can push and pull players into position.

The spine of the team needs rebuilding starting from defence and get some winners in that team who are mentally strong.

Also get shut of coutinho let him go no player is bigger than our club.

Reina, Hyppia, Alonso, Gerrard and Torres was the last time we had a real strong spine to the team. Never replaced that spine since and no wonder why success went downhill from those days.

Great spine! And we won what with that exact spine?

WHO DO YOU WANT TO SIGN?

Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin, Jeremy Corbin?

If you don't put suggestions the post is worthless.

We're white a small team Ayr. Plus the guys we have a white mentally weak I rekon. At set piece time we've typically just got the 2 CBd and maybe Can who can offer a presence in the box. The others whilst small also play small and often at the worst possible times. What do others think?

Ron do you want the whole world to be positive and happy regardless how stupid Klopp and managment team are? if one can't make changes to things even a blind man can see, then we as fan can't even morn or complain. I am rarely the one to complain on this website and had a lot of hope in Klopp but i feel he is BR 2.0 same mistakes same atitude of buying only pacy attacking players and can't address out leaking defence. sorry to call on you Ron, i respect your opinion but i think its enough with all the positivity and we all as suppporters deserve to be heard.

Agree6 Disagree11

{Ed001's Note - buying only pacy attacking players? You mean like Robertson, Klavan, Karius, Manninger or Matip? I think you should stop looking at it all negative and try and see a balanced view before calling out others!}

13 Aug 2017 04:59:53
Oh dear, sorry should be saying quite not white! Sorry if that came across wrong! Also ya only deserved to be heard if ya going to be helpful. But spouting nonsense band baseless drivel deserves to be called out.

Crazy horse: I respect everyone's opinion. I've read from several people the same thing. I agree with the premis that we need "leaders" but who do you want?
They don't grow on trees otherwise someone would suggest a leader we could sign.
At least MK gave some suggestions but I personally don't think Ben Gibson is that man to lead our team. Many times last season he looked totally lost positionally.

These leaders need to be worth their position in the team otherwise they have no authority or respect from their team mates. I'm not always 100% positive. How many times have you read me post "we've never replaced Hyypia". He is the last real leader we've had in our team in my opinion. Gerrard was an inspirational captain, but Hyypia was a leader.

Since Hyypia.

Carra? Suarez?

Both leaders and both winners. You forgot them. Just saying.

Yeah the type of players we're all craving are tough to find. We need a vocal organiser at the back. Someone who will continue to bark instructions even when he's personally not playing great. The guy needs to naturally command the respect of others and be a steady 7/ 10 most games. Personally I'd take bravery over playing out from the back. Keep things simple - win the ball, command the back line and give the ball to others - easy. Row Z when required. If we lose Coutinho the money needs to be spent on a centre half. Does Virgil VD fit the bill? Also, pet hate of mine is zonal marking. It's too easy to hide using zonal marking and to blame others. Keep a pacy presence on the halfway line for long clearances and man mark with men on posts.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - men on the posts is zonal marking.....}

13 Aug 2017 08:21:47
Men on the posts was just called 'the basics' when I was playing Ed!

Agree3 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - it still is, but it is a form of zonal marking.}

13 Aug 2017 09:24:48
Sanchez of Ajax strikes me as being s leader and organiser
If we can't get VVD I would try for this CB.

Inigo Martinez for 30 odd million?

Agree6 Disagree1

13 Aug 2017 11:15:44
There is plenty of players out there who could be a missing Vertebrae to our spine, but unfortunately;
1) many we won’t even look at them because of our playing style which they won’t fit into.
2) most are at teams bigger than LFC who would never sell or the player wouldn’t be interested in joining us.

@Ron, it’s hard to actually pick anybody out for the 2 reasons I said above, and at the end of the day there is no point in us suggesting any signings on here is there? Klopp and Co won’t read it.

Agree2 Disagree0

13 Aug 2017 14:28:10
Phil, by pointing out the lack of available players it might give some of the harshest critics some perspective about why Klopp hasn't signed players of that ilk.
Where I will criticise Klopp is him giving new long-term contracts to Lovren and Mignolet. That was pure stupidity on his part.

Agree8 Disagree1

13 Aug 2017 14:47:12
Red Phil talks sense. The way we play, it's not about a "spine" it's aBout a platform for the attacking players. Personally I take a lot of positives from watford game. I think salah, mane, and firminio is the most dangerous forward line in the league and I have no idea how someone would defend against it bar physically battering our guys. They all scored and I think they will score more than any other attacking unit this year.

We didn't lose did we? And the last watford goal should never have been given. It was an away draw. We showed real heart to come back from 1.0 and 2.1. We showed we can still rip up opposition defenses without pc. I don't understand the gloom. I do understand people's frustration with defence at set pieces but I think vvd will have the intelligence to position our guys properly and take charge back there. It won't happen instantly. Think selling lucas was a mistake and would have been a better sub than Milner.

Oi oi pompey red, live in portsmouth these days. Ed is right mate but I know what you mean, we had no one on the front post at corners did we? If we did that cross for the second would have been easily dealt with. I'm so torn on our style. I love watching us play out and pass freely but I prefer ed watching us win 1.0 under rafa.

Agree1 Disagree0

13 Aug 2017 15:20:49
what about giving Sturridge a big pay rise when he was out injured, Klopp is many things, some good, some not so good, he is stubbern, slow to learn and the way he dealt with Sacko was down right stupid, yes Sacko was out of order, but just deal with him, don't lose him .

Agree2 Disagree3

13 Aug 2017 15:59:21
Sadly I agree with you red forever. Sahko would have that defence more cohesive. I like our style of football bug our dealings in the transfer market are piss poor. Everyone talks like we are stoke or watford "who wants to sign for us? " We are Liverpool. One of elite clubs in the world. Amazing facilities and coaching staff. I don't buy the "people don't wanna play for us" argument.

" We are Liverpool. One of elite clubs in the world. Amazing facilities and coaching staff. "

We are Liverpool, one champions league appearance in 7 years, one trophy in 10 years and where players come to deteriorate, top players can't wait to leave and young players toss their careers away"

It's not hard to work out.

Last season pc scored and Hendo ran over to celebrate with him and Phil couldn't look him in the eye. coz his heart was already elsewhere. I think that was in 2016. Being on this end of things I don't understand how

Agree0 Disagree4

13 Aug 2017 23:14:24
I think people obsess with idea defence is the place to make the solution but in reality the other sides competing for top 4 have some flakey defenders. In most cases they get around it cos they hassle and scare other teams. Liverpool hassle but not as efficiently but do not scare anyone. I think all the "weaker" teams fancy beating Liverpool but don't fancy it against the other top sides. The fact they know they can shut up shop and nick a goal is a major problem. If teams worried that they couldn't contain Liverpool theyd possibly be less sur e about attacking the weak areas.

Agree2 Disagree1

14 Aug 2017 15:35:50
I disagree detailslockrd. I think our attack frightens defences possibly more than anyone. Especially this season. That is why they sit their whole team behind the ball.

Ed002 mentioned Laxalt and Meyer. But Insigne in my opinion is a class above them two and a real gritty player considering his dimuntive stature.

Agree7 Disagree2

13 Aug 2017 01:53:01
Laxalt is a VERY poor player, I'd prefer to play Moreno there. Don't know much about Meyer.

13 Aug 2017 09:40:00
Insigne is quality.

Agree5 Disagree0

13 Aug 2017 15:25:11
the problem we have now is that the football season is back up and running, just about every team will be hanging on to their best players . so forget about Insigne .
my bet is that, Klopp has now washed his hands over Couts, who will leave early this week, we will either waste the money, or spend it foolishly .

Agree1 Disagree1

13 Aug 2017 19:54:33
There are still teams who will sell us their best players. We are doing it are we not? He is a difficult one to replace though. Would rather s Gerrard type player than a cout's type. If we can get kieta I think we'll be fine. Let's wait til September before we judge klopp on transfers. As things stand, it's not enough.

Hi Ed's, a very good morning.
Would Barcelona be willing to include sergi Roberto in a deal for pipco? Is he on the surplus list? More importantly would the forces at liverpool be interested in player+cash kind of deal?
Thank-you for you kindness in this unkind transfer window.

Believable3 Unbelievable5

{Ed002's Note - He is not on the surplus list but the clubs interested in him have had little luck getting Barcelona to talk. Liverpool has shown no interest to date.}

12 Aug 2017 09:15:07
Pipe dream unfortunately. After Messi, Suarez, Busquets, Iniesta, Pique and Alba I would say Roberto is probably the next best they have. He is a really classy midfielder and not a bad right back either.

Agree7 Disagree2

12 Aug 2017 09:29:44
I get a feeling that any player on Barca's surplus list to be included in a deal would be an above average yet nothing special player, which makes the whole idea of it unappealing.

Agree18 Disagree0

12 Aug 2017 09:30:45
That team is slim pickings IMO apart from top two and pique.
Maybe Gomes and Ter Stegen + 80million and then we could maybe talk.

I also find it hard to believe that they wouldn't come back.
Real probably will if not as Phil is knocking on the door of best in CAM in world for me. A season in champions league and people start to take seriously.

Question for Ed02: Have Liverpool been aggressive enough in pursuit of players this transfer window? Do you think if we'd have put money where our mouth is we could've got things do for targets?

Agree2 Disagree2

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool has gone about the transfers in the entirely wrong way - but it is nothing about money.}

12 Aug 2017 10:32:18
Did I just read "has Liverpool been aggressive enough this window? "
Only way they could have been more aggressive is if VVD and NK where bundled into the boot of Klopps BMW and driven to Melwood.

{Ed002's Note - He has a KR200 - there is only room for one of them.

Should have looked outside the club for a sporting director promoting from within where a culture of incompetance has been prevelant for years just breeds more err incompetance . we have seen more of the same this transfer window. they should burn that rick parry guide to doing transfers.

Agree11 Disagree0

12 Aug 2017 10:46:39
Why majorly weaken our team selling a player with years of contract when we can keep him, get a good year out of him and sell him for AT LEAST the same price judging by how transfers are rising year by year. its the same as Liepzig (why have no want or need to sell the player and we don't need the money) .

Agree4 Disagree1

12 Aug 2017 13:38:16
8;minutes and our defence exposed. We are such a good team, something really needs to be done with our defence. Vvd as soon as. It'll be embarrassing but not as embarrassing as losing to mediocre teams.

12 Aug 2017 14:03:41
Ed, sorry couldn't find new post icon. Any idea why we didn't move for Joe Hart? It seems mad as we were the only team at the top he could've gone to bar city. He is surely an upgrade on what we currently have.

Agree0 Disagree15

{Ed001's Note - because he is crap.}

12 Aug 2017 14:19:53
Totally agree Eds. The only reason he doesn't get called out on his mistakes is 'cause he's English.

12 Aug 2017 14:22:12
Didn't Torinos owner come out and say he didn't expect an England goalkeeper to make so many mistakes? Says it all really.

12 Aug 2017 14:44:44
Fair enough guys. I have to disagree with Steve wonder, England gks have had a hard time over last ten years, Carson Robinson and the other fella all made one mistake and we're dropped forever. I have always felt Hart was over rated but rest of country seemed to disagree. Until the euros where he was crap. What Hart does well is organise and control defence and I feel that is what we are lacking. But I buy that he has lost it.

Dear Jurgen. we're going to take your star player and you can have anyone off our surplus list.

Yeh right!

12 Aug 2017 22:37:01
Under FSG, we haven't taken any surplus players as part of big money transfers out. I don't know if FSG think the supporters see such a scenario as Liverpool accepting cast-offs, but the sale of Torres, Sterling and Suarez didn't bring back any players from Chelsea, Man City or Barcelona.

I suspect it will be the case this time too. Why should Liverpool buy players who we don't need?

13 Aug 2017 16:01:52
Fair point resend but we were losing 2.1 when I wrote that post and wasn't necessarily talking about watford. Was talking about defence in general.

Yeah, again I thought there were tonnes of positives from watford game.

Agree0 Disagree1

14 Aug 2017 14:37:46
If Barcelona want coutinio and they want to offer a player or two in the deal then it has to be one of their top players. Next time they offer rahifina we should send em markovic in no 10 shirt. Don't think the part exchange is going to happen is it? Just psper talk. The first two offers were cash.

I think if we were to do a swap it has to be iniesta. If it truly is a iniesta replacement (pc) then we'll take the replaced player. The fact is, they just want the world's best south America players.
