Ed,

There has been a quote posted from Peter Hill-Wood today stating that Arsenal have made what they consider to be an acceptable offer for Walcotts contract, which he rejected.

Considering Arsenal are trying to be responsible with their wage structure and so are we, is not conceivable that Walcott would simply reject any offer from us as its likely to be similar to arsenals?

Thanks for your time

Nevada {Ed001's Note - that is the likeliest scenario, unless he has just decided the time is right to leave Arsenal.}

Our wage structure is simple, we won't give older players (28+) hefty wages and long term contracts but younger players if they are good enough we would be flexible.

£80k-100k is something that liverpool would be happy to pay for him on a 5 year deal considering he would be either free next summer or cheap in january.

he is a Liverpool Fan and any young player out their knows that with the current set up at Liverpool they will be apart of the first team.

1. because BR gives opportunities to those who show maturity and ability no matter age.

2. because the squad is paper thin.

that is why i think Christian Eriksen has not turned down the idea of a move to Liverpool. same goes for Dries Mertens.

Arsenal were offering something like 80-85k we could offer 90-95k

Doesn't he want to be a striker? Arsenal aren't giving that, probably, so he has decided to reject the contract.

If someone, lets say Brendan, comes in with an offer and promises same amount of monies, arsenal did, but in striker role, he might accept.

Dependant on when he transferred there will be either no fee or a neglible fee for his signature, this means a substantial signing fee is possible (which would not be the case if he re-signed at AFC). The signing bonus will not be quoted in a weekly wage and therefore we wouldn't break our structure but he would get the money he wants, his signing bonus would be viewed by Liverpool as coming out of a Transfer kitty rather than in the Player Salary budget.

Walcott wants to play as a striker and I dont believe BR will give any player guarantees about where, or how much, they will play. However, I believe it would suit Walcott to play as part of a front 3, as we have now. I think it would be a good deal all round if we could get him and I think we will be one of the front runners for his signature if he does leave as I dont see many other clubs offereing him an out and out striking role or much better wages.

PLEASE take him!! Ask any Gooners, we'll be glad to get rid! I'm more than happy to drive him to that place in the middle of a council estate (Mellwood is it?) any time that's conveinient......
Egham Gooner {Ed063's Note - Hahaha i certainly wouldn't want him so fully understand where your coming from mate}

Just seen on twitter: Italian FA inform LFC that Borini has broken a bone in his foot.

This is a big blow. Pacheco should get a chance now.

Shame for the lad but on current form he can't get any worse. I'm just surprised he's playing for Italy.

Seriously though I hope the lad comes good because that is a class goal celebration.

Bad thing to happen and I hope he gets better soon. However, the lad has struggled anyway and this may be an extended chance for Suso. That said I do hope Borini gets better soon and starts scoring goals.

No wonder he hasn't been able to score

He was with the Italian U21 team not seniors and apparently they've said it was broke before he arrived there!!
Yesil should see a lot more game time scored again tonight

Dodge

As long as it isn't a stress fracture or navicular. Those breaks can end careers.
It is time for the youth to step up.

I read from slysports that he picked up a knock in training and MRI shows a fracture. Time for Yessil, Pachecho and Morgan to step in?

Yeah thats right, and to rub a bit more salt into it, I've read a report that said it was a training ground injury.... effin brilliant!. Looks like even more time for the youngsters, step up Mr Morgan.

He has been playing like he had a broken foot.. I knew there must be a reason for his performances

Why do persons click the unbelievable button on a factual story. What are they disagreeing with?

I agree throw yesil morgan and pacheco in there
we have nothing to lose til january

What a blow to us we are gonna miss his goals this season!

I know this is kind of goofy question and not realistic but still I have in my heart that BR will certainly have the guy looked.Eds do you think we can sign Thomas Muller?Atleast in summer.He is way better than Llorente or Huntellar or even Lewandowski. The thing is Gomez because he is better than all and Muller might struggle a bit to find 1st place.So do you think we might sign him in jan or summer?I am hoping for a yes!

Always a Liverpudlian
YWNA
Aneesh Liverpool {Ed002's Note - No I don't Aneesh. Sorry.}

Muller is nowhere near as good as lloriente or lewondowski. We need a finisher not a second striker.

Ha you had me to have a good laugh when you said Muller is nowhere near them.He is 23 and already played 26 i think times 4 germany.And he is a good goal scorer.He is younger than them and will become better than all of them.And is 2nd choice because of Mari gomez not because of other strikers man.

He's not a main striker like them and he isn't younger the lewandowski

I think Muller would be an excellent signing if even only for the right wing forward role and then backup for the central striker role

And if anything he's too good for us so don't know who ppl think we are anymore sentiment is great but he'd be a fantastic signing if he'd consider coming to us

With Shelvey getting a England call up I've noticed that he's now been talked about as a class act by some on this site recently! 12 months ago I'd say 90% of people on here wanted him shipped out, even before transfer deadline day he was being loaned out to practicaly everybody according to some on here. 24 hours in a day is too long for some on this site So keep it going Brendan I'm right behind you in what your doing!

Football doesn't work like that mate. Kenny was a good manager first time round because he won things with a liverpool side that was already top. Second time round he found it a lot harder and look what happened, everyone wanted him sacked. If jay spearing suddenly turned on he performances and showed us his real potential everyone would want him back but this isn't the case. Football doesn't work like that, your either good or your not. Shelvey was too young to determine otherwise.

Lucas got slated too in the start of his career here. Some people make noise that they want young talented players to be given a shot and then berate them for not looking like a 30 cap international immediately. I guess the armchairs all expect these kids to play like Sterling has started this season. It'll be interesting to see what happens when the child Sterling has his first dip in form which would be natural for a player of his age.

People also forget that both Allen and Borini are at the age that Lucas was when he was breaking in to the team and getting absolutely slated by ignorant fans.

70% the finished article going forward and 40% with regards to positional play and defending.
Dave

I agree.... I said that Shelvey was a Gerrard type player and about 90% of the people who commented slated Jonjo.

Then when he played against city he was Gerrard's future replacement by 90% of the people.

You have to look beyond the little mistakes and look at his current ability knowing how young he is, that he will improve soo much that in 3 seasons he could be the guy that we would miss if he got a lengthy injury.

and I also made comparisons with him and Henderson and said that when they play together he basically tells Jordan... sit back, I got this. because he plays his game, he doesn't play it safe and now with BR telling everyone to play with arrogance he is thriving even more.

Haych

So what if people said he wasn't that good and are now raving about him? Who cares? Isn't it good that all the fans are getting behind the player? It's pathetic when people say 'I always said he was good and you all disagreed!' - People are allowed their opinions. With the plethora of some of the most miserable fans I've ever heard on here at the minute I think it's actually good that most people are right behind Shelvey - whether they've been backing him for 10 years or 10 hours, it's incredibly rare and nice to read a somewhat shared opinion which has been lacking on this site for God knows how long.

Shelvey has always has the Fans support. He deserves his England place. Good on the lad. He will become a class act

For me, Shelvey still plays like a headless chicken and I really can't believe he's good enough for Liverpool, let alone England. If he played for Wigan, Fulham etc; He would not be anywhere near England set up. The England squad is so poor these days that this sort of selection, smacks of pure desperation by Roy the boy!

Always had faith in the lad

yorkshirered

Jonjo is a class act but please people stop saying he is the next gerrard, stevie g is a one off, the things he has done for this club in his career is roy of the rovers stuff, if jonjo does half as good as gerrard has then we will have one hell of a player

If England are calling up Shelvey then things must be bleak for the talent pool.

I've been a big supporter of Jonjo's since even his debut season when he didn't do that well. He had an eye for a pass and a high workrate, that was enough to convince me then. Glad to see my faith paid off.

Nevada

I still think he is not good enough for lfc. Never will be!

90% wanted jonjo
10% didn't
Ur probably mixin him up w/ Hendo
AnfieldUSA

We have no real depth to our squad, that's why he's in the team. He fades in and out of games to much! He looked great against mediocre teams, but he does fade, as someone said a headless chicken. I really don't know what he doing in the England squad.

Ive always been a huge fan of Shelvey, since the day he arrived, and saw him as the most natural successor to Gerrard that we have on the books. He still needs to add some maturity to his game but that wil come. I'm not sure he's England level just yet but it can only help bring him on. AS another poster has said, Rodgers is encouraging the players to play with arrogance and expression and this is suiting Shelvey. Great to see

Personally...

I still think he is ''poor'' in comparison to any midfielder with average ability.

He lacks pace. Fingers crossed I'm wrong.

Cheers.

Another Liverpool player in the England squad brilliant

He there Ed, ive been hearing rumours about demba ba joining liverpool and also ricardo quaresma, in the upcoming transfer window. Do you think there is a high chance of happening? {Ed002's Note - Not a "high chance".}

Ricardo Quaresma for me is a no brainer as long as the price is around £5m he can when he turns up change a game on his own and would represent good value for money, especially if we sell Downing in Jan if it don't work out then its not a big loss.

As for Demba Ba i do not want him id rather we go and get Hunterlaar Or Gamiero as i think they represent better value and are better suited.

Liverpool scouts are keeping tabs on german goalkeepers Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Sven Ulreich.It's widely known at anfield that this is reina's last season at anfield,and the club are desperate to sign a quality replacement..

If its true which i extremely doubt it as he only signed a new 5 or 6 year contract last year, then there's only 1 choice and that is none other than Marc-Andre ter Stegen, he is a very good Keeper and would probably join us for around £15m.

BigD

We get Ter Stegen, we can then forget about Keeper position for atleast 8-10 years. Hell, Stegen is so good, that he makes Neuer look like a schoolboy!!. He has all the attributes that Legendary Oliver Kahn had. I see a true future captain in him should he join, maybe 2024...

Ter Stegen would be perfect, Sven Ulreich (the Stuttgart guy if I'm not wrong) would be a strange choice-considering there are three better, younger goalkeepers than him just in his own nationality (ter Stegen, Leno, Zieler)!

RedKopite

Ter stegan would rival hart as best in the epl and one day best in the world.. would be amazing but judging by BR's recent comments, somewhat doubtful

Hiya Ed why are we trying to buy another centre half? Agger and Skrtle have been excellent , Coates and Carragher are great back ups ... Is it true I've heard that BR is ready to raid his old club again for Danny Graham for a cool 10 million? It's a lot of money for someone not played international football... {Ed001's Note - Carragher is on his way out as a player. No interest in Graham that I know of.}

Aren't we after the Swede CB that plays for Genoa? for 6m euros?

Granquist would be a poor signing it would be a waste the way squillachi is a waste at Arsenal - why sign him when he's no better than the kids. He'd be competing with Carragher for 4th choice CB and just slowing down the youngsters progress

Danny Graham - my god desperate aren't we? How is he better than Carroll I don't care 7m to spare or not and at that surely he'd be available for 5m not 10m

Sean Ireland

Have you seen the goals the defence leaks. Carra is done. A CB would be worth a look

Why would we need a cb with wisdom and Kelly in the ranks who are both centre backs

Danny Graham??? If he signed then BR could go!! Donkey of the highest order!! No thanks , never a Reds player in a million years!!

Why would we want Danny Graham he's not good enough for us, even if we need another striker

Expect reinforcements to arrive in the january window.David villa will complete a loan deal for the rest of the season,dries mertens is warming to the idea of playing for liverpool fc.Son Heung-min
will also arrive from hamburg.People that think there's no money available,dont have a clue what there talking about..

Think mertens could along with Maher be on their way to Spurs from what I'm told unfortunately

I think it's more, where going for David villa on loan, and the money we get from downing and possibly other players (Pacheco cole) plus the money From adam, will go towards dries mertens, if we fail to sign him then we'll go for son heung min.

11 Oct 2012 11:21:20
why do David Villa and Alexis Sanchez's names keep cropping up, eds? I don't see either of them wanting to come to Liverpool at this time, we're just not good enough yet. {Ed001's Note - simply because they are struggling to get in the Barca side and so are being linked with anyone and everyone.}

I really think that Villa would come to LFC for the rest of the season.

He will play and in his position CF and life get any better?

I heard that Sanchez is not a Vilanova fan and was very disappointed at Guardiolas exit. I'm not sure how much truth there is in that though.

Hi eds,do think our owners are willing to sell a stake in liverpool anytime soon. {Ed001's Note - I would have thought that they would happily sell to an investor willing to put money into the club to help it move forward. Other than that, I don't see it happening any time soon.}

11 Oct 2012 11:59:24
Hi eds have the owners been actively seeking out potential investors then. {Ed001's Note - not that I am aware of.}

I thought FSG were a consortium of numerous investors if thats the case then surely we should be rich and very stable, but looking at the situation, i think they will try and sell at the 1st opportunity as they promised us the stadium and it is yet to be finalized, as like you've eds have already said there's too many people with a input to get it solved. I just hope that if we are sold then we don't end up like another Chelsea or M.Cty.

BigD

I hope they do secure some investment. {Ed002's Note - If the owners sell a stake in Liverpool the money goes to the owners - not to the club.}

According to some rumours FSG were exploring the possibility of a sale as early as June 2011.
They saw LFC as a declining asset and were prepared to spend big in the first transfer window confident we'd get straight back into the top 4. They are now pinning their hopes on BR being the new Fergie. They have no where to go after that.
They'll be gone by the first quarter of 2013, hopefully by the end of this year. {Ed002's Note - What they did in June was investigate what the return might be if the club were floated in different stock exchanges.}

Eds what do u mean if the club is floated in different stock exchanges ?

Thanks {Ed002's Note - What it means is they were given figures that might be realised for a floatation in differeent parts of the world, e.g. NY, London, Singapore.}

If they did sell it would only be because of the few unpleasant fans who twitter etc abuse to both John and his wife Linda.

They (FSG) saved the club from doing a Leeds united yet no one is happy because they are not sticking in £100M everytime the transfer window opens. Perhaps they should have gone elsewhere and then there would be only Parry etc to blame. For FSG it's a thanks but no thanks situation.

Like the Eds have mentioned the stadium would have been dealt with long ago but red tape is holding that up. Councils are all the same,most likely waiting on a backhander in a brown bag!!

The future is bright, why can't people except that and be patient.

Lee73

If the option of a full sale came up do you think they would sell ed? Personally I like them and am very happy with them staying but I am a little curious as to whether they would or not.

Nevada {Ed001's Note - hard to say, I wouldn't blame them if they wanted out, they will never be able to win as owners of Liverpool. They have been subjected to some foul and unwarranted abuse. I don't see anyone out there with either the funds or the inclination to buy the club though.}

They never made any promises about the stadium and made it clear they'd explore every avenue before making a decision knowing any promise would be thrown back at them if not 100%

Our fans really need to realise how close we were to going under before they came in

11 Oct 2012 10:32:58
Hi eds will downing be sold in january. {Ed001's Note - it seems likely it will happen, though that supposes we can find someone willing to pay our asking price!}

Nobody wanted him in summer - I cant see many takers in January either

How about joe cole? {Ed001's Note - if there are takers, he will be allowed to leave.}

We will probably allow him to leave on loan covering some of his wages. The team who bring him in will then not agree to sign him at the end of the season and we will have to pray O'Neil still has a penchant for overvalued English players.

Long Live the King

What fee would liverpool want for him?

May I ask what that asking price is? I wouldn't pay 5 mil for him but hopefully a team like Fulham or qpr, they have an almost as bad transfer dealings as us

Maybe there is a club willing to risk £1m on him........or maybe not

11 Oct 2012 09:06:15
Hi Eds,

Do we have any interest in Cardozo? I read that Everton are looking at him and the price quoted is 5.5m? I know he is 29 but he is always a goal threat and that was the amount we were willing to go to for Dempsey (also 29).

Thanks for any response.

Nevada {Ed001's Note - I don't know of any recent interest, sorry.}

Hi Eds/Macca

I don't suppose you know of any news in regards to the stadium have you. I.e naming rights, new stadium or an extension of Anfield?

Keep up the good work.

Cheers. Gav {Ed001's Note - the whole thing is a mess, too many people trying to get what they want from it is holding things up. FSG have prioritised the stadium from the start, but they have been swimming against the tide on it. There are factions wanting a shared stadium with Everton, some wanting a new stadium and others wanting Anfield refurbished. All are effectively blocking the others, so nothing is being able to be done. Until someone accepts defeat and puts their weight behind one of the others, it is just going to linger on.}

The whole set up at Liverpool is a bloody mess right now- sort it out for gods sake. {Ed063's Note - I'm trying my best but it's a big job!}

Ed001 can you clarify? FSG are the owners, what factions are stopping them? Politicians? or who? {Ed001's Note - mostly it is a council issue, you have to have their agreement to move forward. FSG just own us, they can't make the council give planning permissions etc.}

Im happy with 2 outa 3 but sharing with everton no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no.Tommy Irish Red

Just adds to my paranioa that there are 'factions' trying to block our club at all levels.
You just have to read the trash in the media EVERY day {Ed001's Note - it is not so much trying to block, as trying to get the club to move in the direction that best suits them.}

No ground share at any cost. I am not putting my backside on a blue seat, not even in the bogs.

I dont want ground share but looking at it in the cold light of day it makes sence. Works in other stadia. Groundshare as opposed to no ground is a no brainer imho.

'FSG just own us, they can't make the council give planning permissions etc.' - I reckon some other clubs would start getting the brown envelopes out now, but we're above them!

I agree with comment, no ground share, but I'd take a larger Anfield or secondly a new stadium.

I do think this needs sorting for everyone's sake, even the council's surely?

Keith

So who guarantees Evertons share of a new stadium as they didn't have 40 million a few years ago, or do the council think Liverpool will discount the price like Tesco were willing to do for Everton? (pie and sky come to mind)
If Liverpool pay the extra for a bigger stadium do they also get the extra for the enhanced naming rights that Everton would scream blue murder to share equally?
But the 1st question is most relevant, would the council tax payers of Liverpool be willing to guarantee either teams costs?
As a Liverpool tax payer I think I know the answer, a resounding NO CHANCE.
Oldman {Ed001's Note - groundshares never work, that is why all the teams in a groundshare work so hard to change their situation. I bet someone will mention the Allianz Arena as a good example of it working, when in fact 1860 nearly folded trying to pay their half! Bayern had to bail them out by buying their half off them.}

Also no disrespect to Everton but they do not need a bigger stadium, the pit is often full but I doubt that they would fill a bigger stadium, so its not really beneficial for Everton at all.

Nevada

If we have an extension to Anfield, can we have a conservatory?

Hey eds,

I checked the archive to see if he was mentioned and I didn't see anything about him so here goes. Is there any truth to the rumors that Rodgers is perhaps interested in Marcelo Brozovic of Dinamo Zagreb? Thanks. {Ed001's Note - I believe the story has come from Liverpool having Zagreb watched, who they were watching is just conjecture.}

Could be they're watching their fantastic young right/left back Å ime Vrsaljko. I hope so. -SH-

They are watching Alen Halilovic......
He is only 16, but apparently a brilliant young player.
