ed is it true that erik lamela has signed for roma if so im gutted he seemed a real talent. {Ed002's Note - Yes and there was zero chance of a move to Liverpool, or indeed any club in England.}

10 Jul 2011 23:19:43
Liverpool look close to sign Downing. At this moment I like to look at attacking partnerships. I see Suarez and Carroll being a force, but I am also getting excited about a Downing and Carroll attack threat. Think this will produce 10-20 goals next season.

10 Jul 2011 23:15:23
Hey Ed, regardless to sign players in money cash, do u agree with me to get some free players? Elmander is 1 of those who can back up our strikers, and plz is there any good free player available other than Elmander nd thx alot. {Ed002's Note - The PFA site lists them all - check it out there.}

10 Jul 2011 23:04:59
downing will complete move to liverpool tomorrow 17.5 million

10 Jul 2011 22:50:00
ssn saying LFC could sign downing by monday

hope this is true

Also question for the eds if we get downing will he be good enough and is 18-20 million too much money

thanks love the site {Ed009's Note - Downing is a very good player. He is lumbered with a reputation as the plodding English excuse for a winger, but he gets a vast amount of assists - firing in crosses for the strikers of Villa and Middlesborough - which will only increase markedly with Carroll to aim for. 18 million is perhaps a large sum of money, but if its what it takes to get the player Kenny wants, then I'm happy.}

10 Jul 2011 22:47:02
The word from villa fans is downing is set for talks tomorrow

10 Jul 2011 22:22:47
Eds, Football site Football talk1 is stating that AFC Have bid for Downing £18m. Also, Cissiskho been given permission to talk to us, Has any Eds heard anything, Cheers. TJ. {Ed009's Note - I have not heard of any Arsenal bid, apart from the Sly Sports accusations. Cissokho will be allowed to talk to anybody willing to pay a fair fee for him as they are resigned to his exit - whether we do that is another matter.}

10 Jul 2011 22:12:30
hi ed boss site by the way, u heard anythink about us signing a striker.heard a few rumours about long? {Ed009's Note - the Long rumours have been going on for a long, long time, but I believe it to be a tall story more than anything else - a deal is certainly not coming a-long anytime soon...}

10 Jul 2011 21:13:56
Ed phil mcnulty from bbc is saying that there was no bid from arsenal for downing and villa are still adament they are not selling him. With all the rumours that he is signing soon do you think it is very close as so far we haven't even upped bid from 15m and many reporting they want over 20m. Just wondering what the situation is ed? {Ed002's Note - As I have said all day, I don't know anything about a bid and I don't know where the story has come from. I don't see that anything has changed at all and I suspect taht Liverpool will soon make another bid - and I suspect taht Downing will need to hand in a transfer request to aid the sale.}

10 Jul 2011 20:39:39
hi ed, what is the chance of us getting bastos and mata or are we just going for one or is it likely were going to get neither?
please reply {Ed002's Note - Bastos wants to go to Juve so the chance is reducing. Mata is not of interest as far as I can tell at present. Downing is the main target.}

10 Jul 2011 20:21:21
Hi Ed's

got this from the Man City rumour page..was on looking to see what was being said about A.Johnson...

Hi Ed, do you have any news on Villa's apparent transfer raid on our team? Given, Onuoha, and maybe Adam Johnson? {Ed016's Note - Given is looking the most certain to sign Onuoha is looking less likely because Villa are showing a interest in Hutton from Spurs and certainly not Johnson Mancicni rates him highly Villa are more likely to try and tempt Charles N'zogbia}.

So some Ed's are saying Mancini does'nt want Johnson and others r saying Mancini rates him..If he does rate him then one thing is for sure..he wont be coming to us.

atlfc70 {Ed009's Note - I have spoken to Ed016 since that was posted and asked him what he meant by it. He was not privy to the information which made me come to my conclusion. Believe me, Johnson was not a Mancini signing and is a bad trainer for him. Mancini doesn't want him at the club, and Johnson doesn't want to be a bit part player anymore.}

10 Jul 2011 20:17:43
hi ed is there any interest in kevin doyle personally i think he is a great player and would be a great back up striker {Ed009's Note - as far as I know there isn't. He wouldn't be a bad back up striker but there is no way Wolves would let him go for cheap as their best player along with Jarvis.}

10 Jul 2011 19:56:19
Hi ed,

Since you doing ratings out of 10 for how we will sign can you give us the chances for current squad player leaving

( Aquilani, insua, meireles, cole, konchesky, pacheco, maxi, the greek, wilson, ngog, poulson, degan, jovanovic, shelvey)

thank ed {Ed009's Note - I'm not sure thats such an easy thing to do. All of those players bar Wilson and Shelvey and perhaps Pacheco are for sale if a fair offer comes in - that's the hard thing to find. There is interest in Meireles, Cole, N'Gog and Jovanovic, whereas that in Aquilani seems to have died down. There is little to no chance all the players will leave this summer.}

10 Jul 2011 19:32:28
Ed do you believe sky sources and think downing COULD sign tomorrow and enrique still our 1st choice.. Great job btw {Ed009's Note - I would agree with both those sentiments, but the Downing signing realistically will take longer to complete. Remember Adam from fee agreed to final announcement took a few days.}

10 Jul 2011 19:15:05
On the news here in Ireland Liverpool have contacted Spartak Moscow about mcgeady and the player said himself he would prefer move 2 anfield you heard any of this over there ed's
rigg10 {Ed009's Note - nope. He is not really good enough, and would cost a lot of money.}

10 Jul 2011 18:50:20
A friend who has contacts in Arsenal's circle tells me they are close to signing Aquilani from us. I hope not because I can see him being ace this season.

10 Jul 2011 18:44:06
Ed, I've heard we agreed a fee for Downing or atleast we our close to agreeing a fee Do you know anything on Downing? {Ed009's Note - the player has told anyone who will listen that we are the club he wants to join. I imagine we will seal the deal and I suppose it could be early next week. As long as it is done, does it really matter?}

10 Jul 2011 18:36:39
Are these downing medical tomorrow rumours legit? {Ed002's Note - No.}

10 Jul 2011 18:27:23
Hi Ed, what do you think the chances are in signing the following if Downing breaks do:
Bastos
Johnson
Mata
Aguero
Sturridge

Thanks {Ed009's Note - 6, 5, 5, 0, 2 - that's if we have to look for an alternative for Downing, which I assume is what you are asking.}

10 Jul 2011 18:15:12
good news guys, liverpool are on the verge of signing Italian playmaker Robatelli, and Japanese winger Nickamota.

The Moon.

10 Jul 2011 18:09:59
Eds, Do you know why Cissiskho is not with lyon pre season, is he injured, or on holiday. {Ed009's Note - he was supposed to travel with the squad but hasn't. I presume it is to do with Lyon's resignation that he will not be with them next season - if they didn't know that already, they will now.}

10 Jul 2011 18:06:36
Ed do you think there is a possibility of Liverpool getting Bastos, Cissokho and Mata? If yes what are the chances? {Ed009's Note - all three players individually are possible and subject to interest from us, but none are the most likely for their positions. Enrique is more likely than Cissokho and Downing more so than either of the others. As such the chance of getting all three is probably pretty low, but we could perhaps see one or two of the three by the end of the window.}

10 Jul 2011 18:04:01
i have heard from a reliable source that the deal for downing should be completed either tomorrow or tuesday, as he is set for a medical at 3.30 tomorrow. Also the deal for both Bastos and Cissokho should be done by the end of the week or by monday next week, so a reliable source has told me anyway.

10 Jul 2011 18:03:49
Aquilani, Pacheco and Insua to Arsenal in the next 10 days to replace Nasri, Fabregas and Clichy for a combined fee of around £18m.

10 Jul 2011 18:00:12
Hey Ed,
Can you tell me out of 10 the chances of these signings?

Downing (Villa)
Mata (Valencia)
A.Johnson (Man.C)
Cahill (Bolton)
Enrique (Newcastle)
Cissokho (Lyon)
Aguero (Athletico Madrid)
and
N'Zogbia (Wigan) {Ed009's Note - 8, 4, 4, 3, 5, 3, 1, 3.}

10 Jul 2011 17:18:00
ed sori for the repeated questions over downing, but wot is the situation with him as ssn are saying arsenal ave bid £18m for him, but the bookies are saying we are still favourites, and also have we increased our bid for bastos yet? and finally is it true lyon only want £8m for cissohko and that they are ready to listen to our offer our the duo ??

Fanx once again to all the Eds {Ed002's Note - I refer you to an earlier answer about Downing. I don't know what will happen next with Bastos as the player has said he would prefer to play for Juventus - but they have yet to make an acceptable bid. Cissokho will be leaving - I would not wish to guess at a price. I don't know of any offer on the pair of players. At present, Bastos is away pre-season training with Lyon. Cissokho appears not to have travelled when expected.}

10 Jul 2011 17:07:06
Hi eds, strong rumours over here in ireland that we are back in for james mc carthy, the word is kenny is desperate to get him in now because of interset from other teams.i have also being told merelies and aquailani will be sold to make room for mc carthy in the squad.Seems strange signing all these centre midfielders but its a strong rumour over here.

10 Jul 2011 17:29:27
Hi eds keep up the good work on this great site. Just wanted to ask you about something i read you guys posted earlier. You guys said that kolarov was not good enough. I agre that he was poor in a lot of matches but he playd wel in some too and it was only his first season in the pl. I do feel he would be a gud signing(not that i am any expert.). Can you guys please tel me y u dont think he is gud and also about our chances of signing him and weather we are even interested. Thanx a lot and i am realy greatful fr any coments and opinions you guys have for me AND PLEASE POST THIS ON THE RUMOURS PAGE
DPK14 {Ed009's Note - I don't know of any interest in the player first off. I believe this to be a good thing as the player is simply too slow to be a top class left back. He is also not a brilliant defender, and I'm not a fan of wing back's who's primary attribute isn't defence.}

10 Jul 2011 16:51:58
Macca,
I was wondering, the talk about LFC not having the financial muscle to bring in top players; any truth in it? I personally feel owners have been prudent but have shown that they are willing to spend if needed. Btw, any updates on transfers? Thanks.
Appreciate the info that you are sharing.

10 Jul 2011 16:46:15
we should bid for mata even if he will cost us 27 millions, he is better than downing, young, .... What do you think Ed about Afellay? we should get him hes a gr8 player , fast, cheaper, and young. {Ed002's Note - It will need to be quick as Lazio and Fiorentina are both keen on Afellay. I rather thought he might be added to a deal for Fabregas.}

10 Jul 2011 16:42:33
Arsenal haven't bid for Downing, they have simply made an enquiry regarding his availability and been told that he is already set for Liverpool.

The Fee will be straight cash £19 million.
The deal could be tied up by Monday, however more than likely Wednesday.

The left back spot is still very much up in the air, Enrique, Cissoko (pardon the spelling) and even Bastos are all being considered. However Liverpool need to sell first, not to generate money but to free up wages.

As a result expect a lot of outgoings next week including Mereilles (not going to asia), Cole, Ngog, jovanovic all leaving as well as several players agreeing loan deals for the entire season.

FSG are very supportive of KK and DC (who have a great working relationship) but have emphasised the need for strict business model.

All this information form an "employee" at anfield who likes the "Windsor knot" ;)

10 Jul 2011 16:38:40
Turan, Bastos and cissokho all to be Liverpool players, this would make us serious contenders. WDPL.

10 Jul 2011 16:36:19
ed is it likely that arsenal will sign downing now as their bid was higher than ours {Ed002's Note - I honestly know nothing of a bid. I suspect that Liverpool will continue their efforts to sign Downing.}

10 Jul 2011 16:35:21
just heard thru a good source itk , that lfc wont up the downing offer as he wants to join us and not arsenal and it will be a drawn out saga as he refuses to go to the smoke ( london ) as arsenal wont pay the wage he would get here

10 Jul 2011 16:33:26
This talk of downing tommorow , Is this ssn crap. or one of the eds who have heard this, please reply. {Ed002's Note - I suspect the deal for Downing will go though - I certainly don't know anything about when it will happen or if it will be tomorrow. I also don't understand why everyone seems to care so much about the timing of the transfers.}

10 Jul 2011 16:24:51
downing will have medical tomorrow before 1pm and its already book for bastos aswell will have a medical not tomorrow.mark my word am not suppose to post this as i work there cant leave a my name.i have seen the board with my own eyes today.god bless you all

10 Jul 2011 16:24:48
I agree with ed002 lfc don't have the money to be a big player in the football world. We should all be extremely happy at buying youngsters or midd table players and (hopefully) qualifying for champs league. We need to lower our sights a bit, bit, we shouldn't be expecting premier league wins, its gonna be utd chelsea or city as they have the money to compete.

Spot on ed002 you're right, lfc financially just cannot compete and win. I'm realistic 3/4th place is the best we will get for the foreseeable future

10 Jul 2011 16:23:33
Raul Meireles is on the flight to Asia... Ngog prefers to go back to France, however is likely to be in a deal involving Bastos & Cissoko as Lyon want Cash only... Benzema will be made available when Real Madrid complete the Tevez deal, as he is their preferred option to Aguero (City bound unfortunately)... My opinion: Adam Johnson and Bastos would be ideal down the flanks, with Cissoko coming in at Lb

10 Jul 2011 16:20:26
I think in all liklihood we are looking at Downing and Doni in the next few days, other players are open to much subjecture, have a feeling Enrique may be a possibility as is Scott Dann. As much as I'd love to see Mata in a red shirt I think he will go to Arsenal as a replacement for Nasri.

We all need to realise a huge signing like Aguero is unlikely to happen even if we secure European football season after next.

10 Jul 2011 16:17:05
as wolves are reportedly interested in konchesky i think we should offer konchesky +£12m for Matt Jarvis as he is a LW and is a cheaper & imo better option thn Downing. he is younger too

10 Jul 2011 16:14:31
i dont think everton will let us have baines, but he is quality and would love him to be in our team next season, bit worried about the amount of money were spending though, if we dont do anything special we could end up in debt again Hopefully we can get that 19th league title in the next couple of years though with king at the helm YNWA

10 Jul 2011 16:05:11
17m needed to activate Gary Cahill's contract clause. With Arsenal not willing to pay 17m for him Liverpool are likely favourites to sign the defender.

10 Jul 2011 15:58:32
Gerardo Bruna and Thomas Ince are the 2 players heading to Blackpool as part of the Adam deal.

10 Jul 2011 15:57:00
LFC looking to sell Mereiles for 12m and Juve and Inter are interested.

Hi eds just wondering about the new blue and white kit. "Record" sales for a Liverpool 3rd kit. Are you one of the purchasers, come on now, yes or no??

Seriously now. do you think Kenny is having any say on our targets, some of them, most of them? Or how many of our targets are based on a age and performance strategy favoured by John henry and co? I don't want to put you on the spot, But do you think their methods are a good way way of recruting new players?

And now for my predictions for this summers lates arrivals- -------- Stewart Downing, Dann, Donn, Enrique and Nzogbia. I believe these are the targets that are more realistically to happen because, Stewart downing is a pivatol part of the clubs tactical necessity of supplying the front men with quality crosses and the club see him as the best man for that particular service and not a( for the much craved razzle dazzle) fans prefer. He has other qualities of course. but this is one area that we have been struggling with for a while and Stewar downings crooses may just play a big part in us wining more games. As for the other targets, yes they are genuine targets but i don't think they are first choice. very good in their own rights.but not as good as prefered targets. Liverpool have spent over the top for Henderson and will spend over the top for Downing but these two are our main targets to carry specific tasks on the field simple as that. These are the areas that obviously have been discussed in great detail and Downing and Henderson are believed to give us the quality we need. The other targets are the cheaper options from a short list of targets for the various positions. But they will be very good additons and will improve the squad for sure. They won't be everyones first choice.

I think some L.F.C fans think the're endless ammounts of cash for players and thats not the case. we will need a mssive cash injection for the new stadium which seems inevitable.The group has other sporting projects and we are just one of them. They deseve credit for the way they are handling things very proactive and determinrd to make things work so we must be grateful for their investment so far and just be glad they don't have that cavalier and brash attitude to running a business or we would become disrespected and in efen s**t.

We will be a force again and it won't be short lived because John Henry has top men dealing with promoting the club and bringing in must needed investment and on the field We've got K.K doing his thing. So come on and have faith. the future is bright.
the Red Oracle {Ed002's Note - I have never bought a football kit to wear socially in my life.}

10 Jul 2011 15:45:36
We will sign downing within 2 days for a fee of around 19mill, Cissokho around 7-9mill instead of enrique as he is not worth 15mill in DC and KK eyes. Scott Dann will then be made a priority after the wing and LB positions have been concluded.
Aqua, Meireles, Jova and poulson all to be sold within the week, i think KK will keep Joe Cole maybe up until Jan see if he can work any magic and bring back that very talented players form.

Liverpool to offer loan deal for Wayne Bridge as buying him would be a risk because of his resale value.

10 Jul 2011 15:39:03
Lfc statement is about the stadium. Just stating that their are obsticles in redeveloping Anfield as John W Henry said the other day.

10 Jul 2011 15:30:16
SSN apparently saying we'll sign Downing tomorrow. Jimmy Rice says LFC will release a statement on the website at half 3. Any ideas what it's about eds?

{Ed006's Note - Half 3 today? well its that time now, I havent heard anything about that but have heard we could sign Downing as early as tomorrow.}

10 Jul 2011 15:25:39
Downing deal could be concluded tomorrow- sky sources

10 Jul 2011 15:23:41
Ed, if I'm correct Mierles will be leaving for 12 million to Inter, I;ve heard this a lot and will be a shame to lose him. I've heard a few other possibilities. Firstly Downing will sign over the next week for a fee that will rise to 19 million. The other rumour i've heard is that if Arsenal sign Cahill we will make a 6.5 million bid for Samba, not sure if this is a good move

10 Jul 2011 15:22:46
Just checked sky bet. Even with Arsenals bid were still favourites to sign Downing.We're 2/1on and Arsenal 2/1. Think they must think were gonna match the bid at least. Jonson6

VALENCIA ACCEPT 23MILL BID FOR JUAN MATA

10 Jul 2011 15:08:52
Liverpool will submit in coming hours a £17m bid for Downing raising to 19m on champions league qualification.

10 Jul 2011 14:52:20
Hi Eds whats the latest on Raul Mierles? I think if we can get our money back on him we should cash in. He had a great end to the season, but prior to that looked poor {Ed002's Note - His agent has permission to talk with clubs about a transfer. That is as much as I know.}

10 Jul 2011 14:40:04
Can I say to those who question Turan and his stature would do well to remember Zola for Chelsea, and what a great player he was for them. If he is available for reasonable money it is a no brainer because he is such a skillful player who can play on either wing, and boy do we need more creative players in wide areas, and would complement and not detract from the other wingers we might sign, and of course he is still pretty young.

Ps Sorry for all the 'ands' just a big fan of the kid.

10 Jul 2011 14:35:58
Hey Eds, is it true that Jovanovic is being paid out to leave on a free?

Surely that is illogical considering we need the transfer fee to help strengthen in other areas?

Thanks, Raul {Ed002's Note - Jovanovic has been made available on a free transfer because nobody wanted to buy him. Liverpool are contractually obliged to pay him the balance of his signing on fee.}

10 Jul 2011 14:35:51
Kenny is considering Alternatives to Downing
Adam Johnson & Matt Jarvis

10 Jul 2011 14:28:46
{Ed002's Note - It is not an extra £5M - it is an extra £40M.}
------

I am aware of the concept of maths, I was simply stating that he is only 5m more than carroll and if carroll was worth it despite all his issues surely aguero would be. After united paid rooney 250k the whole united team didn't start demanding the same. Neither did the madrid squad when they paid ronaldo. They are professional footballers who understand that there are some individuals who will be paid more than others.

Mr E

{Ed002's Note - So where is the £40M coming from? I am by no means convinced that the owners will commit to £40M for Aguero plus £200k per week wages (particularly as Liverpool have shown no interest in his transfer to date), plus £20M or thereabouts for Downing/Mata, plus another £10M for a centre back and £10M for a left back on top of the £25M they have already spent. If they do, the club will then truly be running at a significant loss. I really do not see Aguero at Liverpool next year.}

10 Jul 2011 14:17:16
In my opinion this whole Downing things may well have been a smoke screen, I had thought so when we made our bid a few days ago. I think if we'd got him for £15m the club would be extremely happy but i think it was done to tempt Arsenal and other clubs to perhaps make an offer, therefore distracting them from our other targets them may also have been interested in

just my thoughts, i could be wrong but i think if we really wanted him he'd be having a medical or signed by now

LFCTHB007

PS - im trying to get some more info on the Bastos situation from my french mates for you all

10 Jul 2011 13:58:48
As jovanovic is apparently in talks with anderlecht, could we have a move for Lukaku in place as a possible part exchange eds? Quality player, Carroll, Lukaku, Suarez, Kuyt. Can't complain with that. Cheers eds please post in rumours. {Ed002's Note - Jovanovic will be leaving on a free transfer which makes a part exchange out of teh question.}

10 Jul 2011 13:57:22
Eds, what do you think the chances of Nasri joining Man City are? if it's high then surely are chances of singing A.Johnson are also high, i think it would be a great signing {Ed002's Note - If Nasri joins Manchester City then perhaps Johnson will be available. I suspect that Arsenal will do all that they can to sign Nasri to a new contract. We can do nothing but wait.}

10 Jul 2011 14:06:45
10 Jul 2011 12:58:55
We need Downing and Mata - they offer different things which we could both do with

LFC fan Eds, your thoughts? {Ed009's Note - they would be very good signings together, but I certainly don't think we need both. I imagine we could well see two wingers this window.}

--------------------------------------

Well I heard that we want both... And I can see why.

Ok so from what you have been told, who would you say we will sign if we signed two wingers, as in most likely? Like Ed002 says he doesnt expect Downing AND Mata to sign but says we may still get 2 wingers? If you get what I mean? {Ed009's Note - its hard to say with any confidence, but most likely are probably Bastos and Downing if any two. Then Mata, with perhaps an outside chance of Johnson.}

10 Jul 2011 13:51:50
ed is it true arsenal have made an 18m pound bid for downing cheers {Ed009's Note - Sky Sports allege it to be so.}

10 Jul 2011 13:37:30
French papers reporting Remi Garde (Lyon coach) is willing to let cissokho go for less than the 15 mill euro they paid for him. Rumoured to be available for around 10 mill euro (french paper talk). If newcastle are holding out for rumoured 15 mill quid (papers again) would this put sissokho back in the picture.? Jim22

10 Jul 2011 13:35:48
Hamburg want joe cole on a year long loan and are willing to pay most of his £90,000 a week wages.unsure whether he wants the move though.
it's a shame really as he has not really been given a chance to shine as i think he is one of the most creative attacking midfielders left in the premier league.

10 Jul 2011 13:39:33
Hi Ed(s). Do you know of any genuine interest in the following players:

- Joe Cole
- Milan Jovanovic
- Christian Poulsen
- Sotirios Kyrgiakos

Cheers,
Stone YNWA. {Ed009's Note - There is interest in Cole from several teams - namely Hamburg. Anderlecht appear to be interested in Jovanovic on a free. The other two players seem less in demand, unsurprisingly, and we could well see Poulsen remain another season and 'fight for his place' ahem. He certainly wants to.}

Ready....

Cole to hamburg that's minus 90k off wage bill
jovanovic to anderlecht minus 70k off wage bill
ngog to? ? That's minus 40k off wage bill

That's 200k down..BOOM Aguero in No need for wingers as we could play 433 with suarez carroll aguero up front, adam gerrard lucas midfield. Sounds good to me

Mr E {Ed002's Note - And the £40M to buy him? And who else will be knocking on Tom Werner's door demanding higher wages?}

If Arsenal have bid 18mil for downing and its accepted surely we should bid the same amount and leave it to the player i have faith he would choose us over the gunners.
This puts the ball back in arsenals court and i don't see wenger wanting to get into a bidding war and transfers through the press aren't his forte. Arsenal tend to do there business similar to us the 1st news you hear is when wheels are in motion not speculation.
I think either way Downing to arsenal is a no go especially if he is the target the eds are saying he is. It could also be Villa trying to drum up a story and raise the price as they know they are losing 1 of there best players to a team they see as a rival.

Eds i don't see Mata signing to be honest. I watch him in the Under 21s and my suspicions were true he is a attacking midfielfer in the mold of Andres Iniesta. If he was bought as a winger I would be suprised as he always likes to drift in. People may not like Stewart Downing but his delivery is quality and he will always try to beat his man and whip a ball in as this is the best service for Carroll. On the other hand if Liverpool were to sign Mata I would see Liverpool trying for a raiding fullback in the mold of Cissokho to give us that width. If we sign Downing then maybe a Jose Enrique will be best suited to compliment Downing although Enrique is not the best of defenders. My mate who told me that Liverpool are only going to sign three more signings after Adam I guess Doni, left back and a winger. So I guess we won't hunring a centre back.

Ed do you think with city close to completing a deal for nasri this would enhance the chances of Johnson becoming available and maybe us becoming more interested ?
Cheers

Aussie red {Ed009's Note - I have long said that i believe we could move for Johnson should he become available. Previously it was unlikely any player would become so from City, but Mancini doesn't want Johnson at the club anymore. When the signing of Nasri is completed I believe there is a good chance we may make a move, but it does depend on Downing to an extent.}

Liverpool to sign Kolarov as Clichy signed for city. also downing will turn his sides and make his way to arsenal and that will see Walcott make a move to Liverpool (don't forget he is also a red) Doni will turn down Athletico Madrid to push a move to Anfield.

Also, Aqua to Sunderland
El Zhar and Degan told to find new clubs
Jovanovic on his way to Anderlecht

This all to be done before the start of the new season, watch this space

10 Jul 2011 12:48:10
Ed if we dnt get enrique, cissockho, bastos or downing we will go for kolarov and mata/adam johnson? {Ed009's Note - Kolarov simply isn't good enough so no chance there. I would rather see Johnson and Robinson occupy the left back slot than him. I do think that if we fail to get those wingers mentioned, Mata and Johnson are the two most likely signings. We have shown previous interest in both players and they are logical solutions.}

I'm the one who broke the Vidal story about two weeks back.
Nothing's changed. Leverkusen expects a bid from Liverpool.
This after follow up talks were held.

It had been previously believed that Arturo was Bayern-bound.
But as I explained, this isn't the case at all.
As things are at the moment, Vidal will likely be signing for LFC after the Copa.
He's very keen, I'm told.

I also said back then that Mata wasn't a serious/priority target.
Tentative talks were held.
But I expect nothing to come of that.

Downing will sign. Pay no heed to this Arsenal-bid story.
An agreement I suspect will be reached by Wednesday.
Same time I expect that left back to Lyon to be closing to completing a move to Anfield.

Also, regarding Mata, I'm told that Spurs' overtures were quickly knocked by the player.
There's a chance he could make the move to Arsenal.
But my money's on Mata staying in Spain or moving to Inter.

Will tell you more when I hear.
Right now I'm gonna enjoy my safari here in Africa. So long.

Liverpool and Real Madrid are eyeing Cartagena youngster Hicham Khaloua.

Just 16, Khaloua is already a member of Cartagena's first team squad and tipped for big things in Spain.

Local sources say Real have been in contact with Cartagena about a price for the midfielder.

However, Liverpool are also interested, where new reserves coach Rodolfo Borrell has been tipped off about Khaloua's progress by his Spanish scouts.

Have got anything on Aaron Lennon and Adam Johnson {Ed009's Note - we could make a move for Johnson should he become available - which he may well do when City close out the Nasri deal. Lennon: no chance.}

EDs>>> What are your opinions on kk looking at Cristian Chivu if downing dosnt join us.? {Ed009's Note - I don't know why we would look at a left back if a left winger didn't sign for us? i doubt it - he is too old, would come with big wages and is simply not what we need in my opinion. I also don't know of any interest.}

10 Jul 2011 11:49:44
hi ed, do you think we should go for Juan Iturbe {Ed002's Note - He has only just completed his transfer to Porto in the past few weeks. Zero chance.}

10 Jul 2011 11:40:54
Eds if Arsenal are successful with Stewart Downing. Have Liverpool made there intentions known now by moving unsuccessfuly for Michel Bastos or are they looking down a different avenue all together. If Comolli had a shortlist for wingers with Ashley Young being top of that list then Stewart Downing second and Michel Bastos third and they have all been proven unsuccessful do you think we have any other targets left??

MarkoLFC85 {Ed009's Note - If Arsenal were to swoop in and take Downing, then a move for Mata might well become an option again - not to mention the possibility of Johnson now City seem to have got Nasri. Bastos is still a possibility too of course. Ideally he would like Juventus, but ideally Suarez wants to play for Barcelona - so that could well pan out positively.}

10 Jul 2011 11:39:55
ed are we in for cissoko and vidal and are the rumours of lyon being willing to accept a bid of around 10m for cissoko just rubbish or is there any truth in these reports {Ed009's Note - we are interested in Cissokho, but I would suggest Arsenal are more likely to sign the player at this time. I can't see us buying Vidal - we don't need another midfielder and I know of no interest. I imagine the price would have to be a little more than 10 million, unless Lyon have made a U-turn on their aggressive pricing policy.}

10 Jul 2011 11:30:52
Ed's any news on the Bastos transfer? {Ed002's Note - Refer to earlier answers please.}

10 Jul 2011 11:23:32
just a quick question eds , do you think if liverpool offered 25 mill for both bastos and cissokho it would get accepted and do you think it would be good buisness ? i think a deal somewhere along these lines would be good even try to offer some players to sweeten the deal

trev d {Ed002's Note - Lyon would but I am not sure Bastos would be interested. And Liverpool cast offs will not sweeten any deal. Lyon know who they want to buy.}

10 Jul 2011 11:26:22
dosnt look like we will get turan neither he is advertising the new galatasary home kit {Ed002's Note - I would not read anything in to him advertising the kit. Gala have offered him to both Chelsea and Juve and there is a very good chance he will be moving on this summer.}

10 Jul 2011 11:23:31
hi ed, if we miss out on downing do u think we will go for adam johnson? {Ed002's Note - Possibly.}

10 Jul 2011 11:22:39
Hi eds

I'm not one of these fans, who looks at everything we do negatively or the other side of the coin, who believes everything we do is fantastic and blindly follow the sign "YNWA" or else id follow a pointless religion, ha

Anyways, I would like to what your genuine thoughts on everything that's going with our transfer policy (especially with your inside knowledge) eg Charlie Adam, comoli publicly said that Adam wanted to join, yet it took 6 mths to complete a deal for what, roughly 7mil) in this day and age nothing...and we have publicly chased downing, we have ummed and arred, over him, chances are he will go, same with Enrique, clichy, wickham and these were meant to be priorities... I could go on, then u guys say, forget this player, forget that player - so we losing priority targets, through are own pack of action, and aren't in for anyone else...I'm just bewildered as this is meant to be one of our most important summers...thoughts please eds......Ray {Ed002's Note - I will simply say what I know to be correct or will say if it is supposition. The fact that Liverpool have no interest in or cannot afford or cannot attract a particular player is simply a matter of where the market is. The club are bringing in players (Henderson, Adam), are trying for players (Downing, Doni) and will no doubt be chasing others (CB. LB). Some players will be leaving. I am not really sure how much more you expect.}

10 Jul 2011 11:08:58
With Arsenal now putting bids in for Downing and Enrique, maybe the rumours I have heard off a mate who lives near LFC maybe true that the mata and Cissokho deals are almost done. {Ed002's Note - The logic passes me by I am afraid. Arsenal making a bid for Downing means that Liverpool have nearly completed the transfer of Mata?}

10 Jul 2011 11:06:42
Hey eds I'm a liverpool fan from south africa and I've been watching your forum by the minute...to me it makes no sense to go for n'zogbia as he is a winger that likes to cut in and shoot...is our primary aim not to buy a source of supply for carroll?this is why I would prefer downing or even carzola..both players who can score goals and set up others..wats happening on the carzola side, its gone very quiet? {Ed002's Note - Villareal have an offer of 23M euros on the table from Malaga for Cazorla. He will either move to Malaga or stay at Villareal.}

10 Jul 2011 11:05:47
Morning everyone. Quick question for the eds, IF downing comes in what's the next positional priority?

A very hung over realistic red. {Ed002's Note - LB and CB I would have thought.}

10 Jul 2011 10:57:37
After hearing Kenny say we wont get everyone were after does that make any of the eds concerned?

I think we have pulled out of alot a moves because of money. It would seem to me that the owners want the club to progress gradually over a few years rather then acting immediately to catch up with the top spenders.
If Stuart Downing and Enrique leaves for Arsenal and Mata stays, who will be good enough to join apart from players that are too over priced? {Ed002's Note - I imagine Dalglish said that in response to a player who had not been bought rather than one being bid for. Wickham perhaps? In any case, it is true for all clubs that you cannot always get the targets to make the move.}

10 Jul 2011 10:55:18
Ssn arsenal in for downing

If we miss out surely we must be getting mata?

Any thoughts ed? {Ed002's Note - I would put Mata out of you mind for a while.}

Hi Ed's
Just a thought, with Mata looking more and more likely to go to arsenal or spurs, do you think we will concentrate on downing? And with the signings of adam and henderson, maybe we will only need one more winger, as i think henderson will primarily functiin on the right, with adam drifting out to the left occasionally to whip in ome of his great crosses, what do you think?
And please post in rumours ed, thanks,
RedManYNWA {Ed002's Note - Downing is first choice for Liverpool - not Mata. If Liverpool are to do anything with Downing and Arsenal are to bid, then Liverpool must act immediately. Aston Villa are PO at the "low" bids that were made and are seemingly preparing for life after Downing by lining up N'Zogbia. Henderson may well be tried on the right.}

10 Jul 2011 10:23:15
Hi Ed,

I was just wandering if you think Arsenal will really offer 20 million for downing it does not seem realistic for them to spend so much and also if you think they will try and get Enrique having been linked with cissoko for so long.

Thanks
Raj {Ed002's Note - I really don't know where the Arsenal-Downing story is coming from. Perhaps they will, I don't know. If however, Arsenal did move for Downing, it may mean that a move for Mata might be an option - assuming Barcelona, Spurs, Chelsea or anyone else don't slip in. Arsenal have also been linked with Enrique and Cissokho.}

Kenny Dalglish is desperate to bring in a new left-sided defender after being forced to play Glen Johnson out of position at times last season.

After seeing his top target Gael Clichy join Manchester City, he is now looking at a number of alternatives.

Reports in France suggest one of them is Lyon's Cissokho and that a bid is imminent.

Lyon coach Remi Garde told L'Equipe that Liverpool have not yet made an offer for the 23-year-old, but he was prepared to consider any approaches.

'Aly is an important player for us, but if an offer matches our expectation, he is likely to go, ' said Garde.

The French club are known to be short of cash and it is thought they are prepared to accept a bid of just £8 million, despite paying £13 million to sign Cissokho from Porto in 2009.

Liverpool are also believed to be interested in Newcastle United left back Jose Enrique, but face competition from Arsenal for the Spaniard's signature

10 Jul 2011 08:55:16
Morning Eds... just read in the morning papers that Arsenal are about to hijack our bids to sign Enrique and Downing?? just like Liverpool to take their time over if we should sign players or not and then lose out to the other big clubs... we have done that before E.g RONALDO TO THE SCUM.... why hesitate on these players? we should sort things out now, before its to late and we end up with the same old players who are not good enough to wear the red shirt.....Your thoughts???

REDTHROUGHANDTHROUGH {Ed029's Note - I think that we only want players to join who want to play for LFC, I'm also not sure where Downing would fit with Arsenal as they are selling their only large target man, not that he is any good in the air. Furthermore their top striker Van Persie, who is quality IMO, prefers the ball to his feet}

8m bid put in to Wigan for Charles N'Zogbia, newspapers to report on this in the next 24-48 hours.

Ed,
Heard that LFC competing with Arsenal for Chilean Arturo Vidal..any truth?

ALso rumors Stewart Downing already hand in transfer request..any news about this?

Meireles given permission to begin talks of possible transfer to Inter or Juve..that's why he's not included in tour to Asia?

Boring'LFC {Ed029's Note - The Vidal story was around a week or two ago, haven't heard anything since. Meireles could well be sold.}

10 Jul 2011 08:25:04
Ive been told Liverpool will have downing by Thursday, tho he is unwilling to a hand a transfer request in. Once Miereles is sold along with aquallani mccarthy will be followed up. Kenny wants him but he has to relesase 2 cm first. liverpool have had a fee agreed for 6 weeks regardless what DW has said of £16 million. The wage bill is a serious concern, there is room for Downing before anyone has to be released but the mccathy deal is having to wait for the so called deadwood to be shipped. Emails have been sent to every top flight division in europe with upto 10 players being offered at literally no cost but we are really struggling to offload. John Henry has privatley said this is the legacy of the Hicks and Gillete era, very average footballers on champion league players salarys. Behind the scenes he is furious and the reason why Christian Purslow was shown the door immediatley. Comolli is doing an amazing job benind the scenes despite the negative comments he gets on here.

10 Jul 2011 02:53:52
Thanks for clearing that up Ed001. Do you think we've got a good chance of signing him re the club going back with an acceptable bid, i know FSG'S policy, but he's in the prime of his career, could get 4 or 5 good years at least out of him. Chores read Thanks. Chopper Read {Ed029's Note - Sorry different Ed who was this relating to Bastos? I think he will still end up at Juve, perhaps we were using the bid to try to force the Downing move through}

10 Jul 2011 07:30:27
Liverpool Football Club can today confirm that two separate bids were made for two Olympique Lyonnais players. Both were unsuccessful, one which involved a straight cash offer, and one involving the exchange of striker David N'Gog and midfielder Alberto Aquilani, plus a cash offer. The club will endeavour to reach a compromise with OL and plan to make another announcement within 48 hours.

10 Jul 2011 07:15:31
According to wikipedia Michel Bastos is now a LFC player, signing for £11.5million & will wear the number 4 shirt {Ed029's Note - As we all know this is not a reliable source}

10 Jul 2011 07:06:55
Not an ITK at all but have a journo friend connected to LFC...he has been told Mata will not be coming and Downing has handed in a transfer request which will push move along ( Mata wants CL football which is no great suprise really even though I think he is a wonderful player )

10 Jul 2011 05:34:43
Ed do you know which players would be going out on loan and where possibly? {Ed029's Note - Pacheco is rumoured to be going on loan to Blackpool, but I thought he might be sold}

10 Jul 2011 04:53:15
Eds good to hear the info on basto's.I know you said a bid was made and rejected , but from reading your replys to peoples questions you seem a bit more confident of a move than usual.Do you know more than you are letting on ?(RD.RED) {Ed002's Note - Not really and oddly enough I rather think Bastos could still end up in Turin. I don't see Liverpool giving up on Downing just yet, so perhaps much hangs on what happens with Enrique.}

Sorry ed, I dont understand the point. Could u explain a little elaborately how the two deals of downing and bastos are co dependent on enrique deal. Pls shed the light. THANKS {Ed029's Note - I think perhaps Ed002 means that a LB is a primary concern, since we have signed Adam we have more options for the left, although don't get me wrong we are definitely in the market for a LW}

" Reports out of Italy are linking Sunderland with a sensational move for Liverpool flop Alberto Aquilani ... Aquilani has only just returned to Anfield after a loan period in Italy with Juventus and while it was thought that a permanent deal was in the pipeline, nothing materialised."

Many expected to see the Italian stay with Juve, but no permanent deal materialized and now it appears Sunderland, who've been spending money as of late, look to strike a surprising deal with a raid on Liverpool.

It really shouldn't matter much to the Reds though, and a sale was imminent after spending money so far this summer.

Aquilani doesn't appear to be in any of Kenny Dalglish's plans going forward and it would make sense to strike a deal while he still has some value.

At 27-years old he's on the brink of the age line the Reds have established for incoming players under John Henry's rule and although he's already a member of the club, he would basically be an incoming player after his time on loan. {Ed029's Note - He doesn't appear to want to play in the premier league so why would he move to Sunderland? I would be very surprised myself}

10 Jul 2011 01:50:46
heard small word from an x liverpool player and current chelsea player who said tha malouda from chelsea is on his way to anfield.
i think he would be great player for liverpool . what are your thoughts?? {Ed002's Note - Sounds like nonsense to me.}

question for any ed i have heard that we looking at signing andre ayew from marseille if we dont get downing have you heard anything about this and do you think he would be a good signing. {Ed002's Note - No, he has signed an extension and will be staying in Marseille.}

10 Jul 2011 01:21:42
{Ed002's Note - The bid was made yesterday but Ed009 would not necessarily have known about it. I agree the bid is low. Lyon could do with some money so may be open to a "decent" offer. I don't know if Liverpool will follow this up or not.}

do you agree that it could be a strategy bid like the one of suarez.

{Ed002's Note - I do.}

American U17 star Marc Pelosi has revealed that LFC have offered him a contract and the chance to go professional.

The midfielder has verbally committed his future to UCLA but now has the opportunity to join LFC and turn professional.

Marc Pelosi is regarded by many as the top high school boys soccer player in the United States which saw him voted No.1 recruit in the Class of 2012 by topdrawersoccer.

He said It s a great feeling.

I have been told the current Barcelona coach said that, If you don t go to Barcelona, the second-best place to develop is at Liverpool. It s a great, top notch organization.

Right now, I want to make sure that wherever I go I am in the right place where there is a balance between training and playing high-level matches. And I want to ensure I can continue my education.

this guy rory smith beleives that aly cissokho was OFFERED 2us? if so why not get both him and bastos with insua as a deal pleaser? 25-28m {Ed002's Note - Sadly the transfer market is not that easy - and OL have their replacements already lined up.}

09 Jul 2011 23:12:45
with dave whelan just coming out and saying wigan have to sell n'zogbia we should surely put a bid in the next few days quality player at quality price. thoughts eds? {Ed002's Note - Could be.}

09 Jul 2011 23:12:26
Ed why do you think Lyon have a policy of overcharging English clubs? Surely they'd rather sell Bastos/Cissokho to us rather than a rival?

Red Ollie {Ed002's Note - They overcharge because they can and English clubs will pay. Now they need the money, so perhaps a better deal can be struck.

09 Jul 2011 23:07:24
Heard that liverpool are putting in a 24m bid in for lyon pair cissoko and bastos. Two quality aignings if you ask me

09 Jul 2011 21:30:02
Hi Ed002,

I read earlier that you said Cissokho has doubts about joining Liverpool due to Comolli? Please could you explain a little bit more about this, does this mean he is very unlikely to come, how sure are you that this is true and do you know why he has 'issues' with him?

Sorry to quiz you, i believe you 100% just wondering if you could shed a little more light on the situation as its a real shame, in my opinion he is the best LB we could realistically buy (the best of which i think would be Baines). {Ed002's Note - He mentioned the issues in an interview and whilst I can guess what they probeably relate to I don't see why they would halt a move - nor why he mentioned them.}

10 Jul 2011 00:30:36
Downing is a smoke screen. Were really after Mata and Turan

10 Jul 2011 00:28:59
Ed,

You said earlier that Cissohko has issues with Commoli, do you know what these are and does it rule him out for LB? I think the player would be a perfect signing for us

RedChris {Ed002's Note - I could guess what it is about and I don't see why it would rule him out. But then again I don't see why he mentioned it.}

Stewart Downing to move to Arsenal as they offer CL football. (source Daily Mail)

10 Jul 2011 00:10:38
Meireles a £12m target for Juventus. Joe Cole being targeted by Hamburg.

09 Jul 2011 23:52:20
Downing - £18m (will be steep but no doubt he'd be class in our team. Could be a great buy.)

Bastos - £12m (at this price we should buy him regardless of whether Downing signs as he is versatile and a class act. Will add quality and depth to the squad.)

Johnson -£18m (imo very similar to Downing but abit more flair, if a bid for Downing fails we should try and sign Johnson even if City dont sign a winger Give them a reason to buy one.)

Mata - £23m (no doubt hes a brilliant player, but id rather see Downing or Johnson as they have experience in the Prem.)

Feel free to let me know if you agree or disagree anyone

The much mentioned "problem" LB position is pretty well covered by Fabio "sicknote" Aurelio, Emilio Insua, Jack Robinson and stand-ins G.Johnson, D.Agger and Martin Kelly. Because most of these will be either injured, suspended or seen as not thin enough at any one time (Insua still has burger-issues) players who can "double-up" are being considered. Downing tracks back and, in my opinion, would work beautifully with D.Agger...but Bastos would work at least as well and be cheaper.
The signing of Adam is a masterstoke in so much as it guarantees that acquiring a decent left-winger isn't as much of a priority, and Henderson can also provide crosses on the right. We do need one "specialist" wide-man and, in my opinion, it should be Adam Johnson and, given Citeh's unlimited funds, I can see him becoming available soon.
Forgetting Mata, Aguero, Neymar, J.Martinez et al as unrealistic, I would love either A.Johnson, Michel Bastos or Downing out wide; Cissokho, Baines or Enrique at LB, Doni as reserve keeper, Dann at CB and a back-up forward such as Toivonen, Van Wolfswinkel or Long....Sturridge would be great but too expensive. After all, we have Kuuyt, Morgan and other other targets.
I don't pretend to know anything of what's happening behind the scenes and if I was a master tactician I'd be earning more. I can't profess to an encyclopaedic knowledge of European footy.....but I am a Liverpool supporter to the bone and I support the current regime whole-heartedly and I know they'll do what's right for the club.

Hey Eds, do you reckon there will be any surprises? I'm talking big names, though perhaps not as big as an Aguero, Hazard etc. {Ed002's Note - It is a little like saying "tell us what you don't know". The answer has to be "maybe". "Big" is subjective of course.}
