If you have a spare 45 minutes check out the Trent overlap interview, what an intelligent and articulate well mannered gentleman he is.

Taking notes from the interview I doubt he's going to be a one club wonder like Stevie and will probably join real Madrid before maybe bringing Jude back for a last hurrah.

If he does leave I hope he gets no stick and I can't see it happening for at least 3-5 years but I do think it will happen.

He’ll have no reason to leave if we start bringing in players to help us win the CL and league.

Surely it is no coincidence that Sporting Lisbon will not do any business with us due to tapping up and the move to bring Amorim in as manager. We want ignacio so we have to have Amorim to facilitate the move.

So you are suggesting we are appointing a manager just so we can sign one player?

I know Alonso has previously said he is staying with Leverkuesen but surely there is always a price that can change his mind. I loved the way FSG aggressively went after Klopp and got him when he was the obvious standout character. Is there a possibility that they will do the same again with Alonso? The alternatives don't look hectic to me.

He’s going to Real Madrid, move on.

Alonso was a world class player 20 years ago.
He’s made enough money to the point where his salary is irrelevant.

He gets to choose where he goes.

16 Apr 2024 16:35:51
You'd be surprised how many rich people can be swayed by more money 😆.

16 Apr 2024 16:56:42
Alonso doesn’t strike me as that kind of person Adam.

Notwithstanding the fact that he’d inherit a better squad and bigger transfer funds at Madrid. He’s waiting for the Madrid job for football reasons not avarice.

Klopp was unemployed. When he was in a job we went and got Rodgers from Swansea. I think Alonso may manage us in the future but I think his first destination will be Madrid in 12 months.

Preparing for end of season heart break, what's your list? Whisky, Guiness, Italian Grappa, German schnaps, Vodka.

All suggestions are welcome.

Wondering what people think of Thomas Frank as potential option?

I like him as a tactician and think he's been hampered by some really brutal injuries and suspensions this year. When they had their best team last season it's impossible to deny that they were entertaining at the same time as being a very physical team that were not easy to play against.

I just believe that to succeed nowadays you have to almost be a philosopher of the game. Every top manager seems to have a style of play that they are prepared to live and die by. Frank maybe is more of the Mourinho or Conte mould, in that he's a good manager for a one off game if he has time to prepare. Short term success might well come with him and we'd probably have a solid record in the bigger games, but will he imprint an identity onto the team that sets them apart over a 38 game season? I'm not so sure.

Seems a really nice guy though that players would want to play for and not enough is made of how he got Brentford promoted, kept them up comfortably, then looks likely to keep them up again with about 10 senior players fit all year and his best players (Mbuemo and Toney) not playing a game together until April!

Honestly if that’s the best we can do then write off next season and the season after that. Simply not good enough for a team competing at the top.

16 Apr 2024 19:23:26
Think he needs to go win a league title first. Any manager coming in needs to be proven at the top.

15 Apr 2024 11:53:52
I'm just putting this out to the forum. does anyone think that we have actually over-achieved this season?

I say this as at the very start of the season as I thought we wouldn't have the squad depth to mount the title challenge we have for so long.

The fact we have what with all the injuries too is even more remarkable. And to win a cup was a bonus too.

There have been good things to come out of this season. The emergence of Bradley, Clark, Quansah, Danns etc means the future looks very bright.

Investment will be needed in an aged defence in the summer and a DM is a must long-term. If Salah can be sold for 70 million then that will help finance the rebuild.

A lot to be positive about.

Your thoughts.

I'd tend to agree with u barnes, if before season u said we finish 3rd and a cup I'd have been delighted.
At same time the way we ending season (if it continues in this vein) will be disappointing, my biggest worry going forward is how most of players haven't embraced the pressure of run in, they've shrunk, there no way we as bad as we've played recently.
I don't think new manager should throw baby out with the bath water as we have a lot of v good players between 19-25 but to win a league I definitely think we need 2-4 players top class players.

15 Apr 2024 13:37:17
I said a few weeks back how good it would be to win the prem by one point well i still think this can still happen . YNWA.

15 Apr 2024 18:19:07
I said a whole back we need to keep perspective
Considering how far off being champions we were last season and not qualifying for the CL we have exceeded what I thought we would do.

15 Apr 2024 19:42:15
City have to play away to Brighton and Spurts the latter of which they have a poor record. Arsenal away to United Spurts and away to Chelsea. We have to take care of our games and not worry about the others. Still possible but obviously we have to improve.

16 Apr 2024 08:27:05
I don't think you can have our squad and think that a Carabao Cup and 3rd place is over achieving (which is what we currently look like finishing with) . For all our arguments in recent years about net spend we now have Jota (45m), Gakpo (50m), Nunez (85m), Salah (35m), Diaz (50m), Szoboszlai (60m), Macca (35m), Gravenberch (40m), Konate (35m), Virgil (75m) and Alisson (65m) . It's not a bad season, but It's what I would expect from this group.

16 Apr 2024 15:55:20
Same as MKS 👆

I pray that day never comes where a League Cup is classed as “over achieving”.

Emery anyone?

Good manager, good record, struggled at Arsenal.
I wouldn’t mind it.

Question I have is why did he struggle at Arsenal and is he happy working under Hughes and Edwards.

Whoever we get is giving up a decent amount of autonomy.

{Ed001's Note - he always does well when there is no pressure to succeed and as soon as there is pressure he struggles.}

15 Apr 2024 12:53:04
I know it’s daft but I can’t stand the faces he pull's.

15 Apr 2024 17:30:05
Seems a really nice bloke to be fair and has done exceptional at mid range clubs like Sevilla, Villareal and Aston Villa. I'd worry about his ability to succeed at a club which doesn't contain the letters "villa" in the name!

In all seriousness though he definitely didn't achieve his targets at Arsenal and PSG. Neither of those clubs are as big as Liverpool so I think he might be at his level.

15 Apr 2024 21:31:49
What could Arsenal have realistically achieved under Emery? It was an impossible job at the time. They were wasting money on players like Pepe who Emery didn't even want. They've only got their act together in recent years and they've spent a lot of money to get there.
