Personally I just can’t see it happening. A big reason is the fee we would want and Barca’s ability and willingness to pay it. Secondly, Diaz plays predominantly as a wide attacker, Barcelona have two of the best wide attackers in world football, both of which are in contention for Ballon D’Or. Unless Barcelona plan on pushing one of the 3 more central it doesn’t make sense pushing players out of there best positions and paying €80m for a player to do the same thing. For me it’s media hype, likely linked to the players agent who is currently negotiating a new contract which the player has said he wants to sign. Now would Liverpool welcome a sale of Diaz at that kinda price range, I’m pretty sure they would!

I think he’ll sign a new contract. He’s shown willing and there’s too many other changes likely to go on in the first team. Unless Barcelona put in an obscene offer (and we should remember that they struggle to afford to register the players they have now) it would make no sense to sell him this summer.

We are in an extraordinarily strong position with Diaz.

And this is where the idea of loyalty only really goes one way lol

there is absolutely no reason why we should extend his contract now. He is less than $100k/ week, has 2 years left and is 28. The only reason we would extend his contract now, and potentially double his wages from now into his 30s, is purely out of kindness of our hearts.

No, we shouldn't extend him this summer. It can be left until next summer.

Which means our options this summer are to sell him if a big enough offer comes in. or we keep and reassess closer to the end of next season. And we still have option to sell him next season if we want to.

worse case he leaves on a free, but after two more seasons of service on his wages, he would absolutely be over delivering the value of his contract.

We hold the cards and we shouldn't be rushing to make any moves unless a proper offer comes in this summer.
