Haaland and Marmoush apparently on £865k and £300k a week respectively. Probably more negotiating power for our 3 lads.

Obscene. I’m genuinely glad we’re not that kind of club.

Are our 3 lads in negotiations with City too?

Well, we’re well and truly on the finding out section of the f around and find out curve. Had we dealt with this earlier we would likely not be in this mess. Well run club eh?

MK what’s that? If they invest in their success what’s the problem? It ain’t your money.

Yeah but only Liverpool has to adhere to ffp, despite playing CL football 8 out of the last 9 years and playing in 3 finals too.
{Ed025's Note - all clubs have to comply Fisk, dont start all that woe is me rubbish mate..

There are two schools of thought on this. One is that City have got off and they’re sticking two fingers up and saying we can do what we want. The second is they’ve got a transfer ban and are stockpiling.
With the irony being that Haaland’s new deal is for 115 months.
Either way, they’re taking care of their own business while we continue to f around. Are you glad that we’re a club that appears to completely lack competence then MK?

City are looking up at us and laughing.

Victor, if we get to the end of this window and haven’t signed anyone still then I definitely will not be happy at the incompetence. But that doesn’t mean I want us to start giving out ridiculous contracts. That’s exactly why Man United have so many players they can’t shift, and why Barcelona are a financial mess who can barely register players.
Frode, it’s not my money but it’s our club. I don’t want us to end up in a mess in 5-10 years. You give one person a long contract on crazy wages, it bumps up the expectations of every other player. Also if they then lose form, decline early or get a bad injury that they don’t fully recover from you’re just stuck with a leech.
I never want our club to be like that. There is a reason Man City and Chelsea are so lacking in respect from neutral fans. They’re plastic clubs. I’m not so desperate for success that I want us to sell our soul to the devil.

seems the rules are kind of bent for some teams though, city i can sort of understand with their on the pitch success, but chelsea? they finished 6th and 12th the season before that and looking like they might struggle to finish top 4 this season.

I believe Chelsea has a very strong revenue stream which allows them to buy loads of players. Like their youth system isn't meant for the first team but to generate income so I'd imagine that's how they keep in line with the PSR regulations.

I Guarantee salah is right on the cusp of his second half season drop off and come the summer all those rattling on about how we have failed to extend his contract, bearing in mind these are the same people who were saying we should of sold him last summer to the Saudis and he was finished will again be saying we were right to not extend his contract after whinging all season about the clubs failure not too.

Salah has been overplayed. He should have been given some time off after the Man U league game. Don’t worry too much he will find his form again as long as Slot doesn’t burn him out.

Just a reminder to the negative brigade, we are top of the league by 4 points with a game in hand. Also top of the Champions League.
I don’t mind not having new toys when we have a good toy box already.

I don’t think I’ve ever worried about how a club valued at 4 billion pays their superstar wages to players, managers or directors.
Only time I ever gave it a second thought was when they started furloughing staff who were likely on minimum wage or not far off.
Fans are always concerned about clubs finances until it comes to streaming games for free. And then the club losing money becomes so much less a priority.

Absolutely agree with MK, great post. We have to accept I suppose though that to maintain those principles probably means we won’t win the league very often if at all. There may be a very exceptional year, like this one, or a very exceptional manager like Jurgen who could pull it all together and who used the Coutinho money very wisely.
My frustration is purely with our poor planning, as that’s what it looks like, to leave us short in a few key positions and overstocked in others. I’m not frustrated that we won’t pay crazy wages or long contracts as I think we could have overcome those weaknesses without shelling out crazy sums.
Equally though if our existing players want the 400k in Mo’s case, or 250-300k in the case of VVD or Trent you’ve got to think we can’t realistically do it. Let one or all of them go with best wishes, Diaz and others are already in the queue for more.

No one wants ridiculous contracts MK, just to pay two alltime legends of both our club and the Premier League the going rate, that's not being silly or naive from the fans that's just expecting your team to act like a big club and look after players who have been absolutely paramount to our success over the last 7-8 years. Trent i wouldn't be as quick to hand colossal money to, i'd imagine he's already in the top handful of best paid fullbacks on the planet and i just don't think he's as important to our team as Virg and Mo.

You sound like women discussing curtain fabrics. I don’t care about the cost of players or wages. Extra bodies have always given an extra push/ boost in January. Is a stop gap player worth it if the team wins the league? The club charges £25/ £35 for a picture with a cup and league trophy we won years ago, imagine what they would charge if there was two? Would that satisfy your need to balance the books.
