This Trent saga is playing out like the Owen saga where he constantly said he would sign and in January said he wasn't causing us to sell him cheap to real, I really think we should know what he wants to do imo.

I'm sure he has told the club what he wants to do. He wants to keep the negotiations with the club private, which is respectable. It's nothing like the Owen saga where he was leading everyone by the nose before doing something completely different.

Fatwallet I really don't think that you can compare Trent and Owen. For example one is a really decent and likable local lad and the other is Owen.

I can't stand Owen but as I recall, he'd spent a few years regularly mentioning he wanted to move abroad. It was part of the reason the fans never took to him in the way we did with Fowler.

Has Trent ever actually said publicly that he will sign? Thought not. I honestly don't begrudge him leaving. I don't understand why people are taking it so personally that he might.
Real Madrid are the biggest club in world football in terms of profile, and they will also be able to pay him significantly more. On top of that, historically they win more trophies than we do. Not to mention the agenda they peddle in this country that he can't defend at all, which he must find extremely tiring. He's held to a ridiculously higher standard than any other full back in the country.
I want him to stay because he's world class in my opinion, but if he goes then so be it and I hope he goes and makes us proud. Look at how Man United fans still loved Ronaldo after he went to Madrid and were proud of the monster they created. Why can't we show that same level of class as a fanbase?

What has whatever TAA would like / want to do got anything to do either you, or me, or anybody else @Fatwallet? I don’t think any of us are the boss of him.

I agree with everything you say, MK, apart from Trent being world class, but that's subjective.

One slight difference. we actually got a fee for Owen.
8.) 16 Jan 2025

Same class as Man utd fan base? That sentence doesn't make sense in my head.
9.) 16 Jan 2025
16 Jan 2025 10:53:59
Ronaldo wasn't a local lad, and Portuguese on top so not exactly a like for like comparison.
10.) 16 Jan 2025
16 Jan 2025 11:10:55
Ronaldo also went for a record fee? He shouldn't have been in the position where we could run down his contract, but here we are.
11.) 16 Jan 2025
16 Jan 2025 11:39:25
Contracts work two ways, I fail to see how someone who is honouring their contract is deserving so much anger. Be angry at the club by all means, not the player.

16 Jan 2025 11:43:05
Stromsgodset we also had to pay the wages of Antonio Nunez for a year, which offset much of that fee.
13.) 16 Jan 2025
16 Jan 2025 11:58:01
Why are nationality/ locality or transfer fee relevant though? He’s give us 20 years of his life and won every piece of silverware going. I don’t get why we have to be mad at anybody. So what if he goes for free. That just means he honoured his contract. I’m staggered by the outrage. Players run down their contracts all the time. If we as a club don’t like it tat he may leave for free, we should’ve asked him to renew 2 years ago and made him available for transfer if he declined. Maybe I’m in the minority but I’m just not mad about this. He cost us nothing. He gave us 20 years. He won everything. Good luck for the future unless we play you.

Fatwallet, I don't know how you can compare the two cos one (Trent) ain't talking nor saying anything to anyone publicly while the other (Owen) was talking about his situation publicly, telling everyone how much he wanted to re-sign and then just packed up and left.
Your comparison is already flawed from jump at a basic level. If Trent wants to go, he can go and live his life and Im not sure anyone (not directed at you, Fatwallet) outside of his fam and close friends should be dictating to a grown arse man of 26 years of age what he should or should not do with his life, professional or private.
15.) 16 Jan 2025

If Man United created Ronaldo, why don't they create another one?
Cristiano Ronaldo created the monster that he was. There's loads of evidence showing how hard he worked to become the player he was.

It’s a bit of both isn’t it Rigs with most stars. Some players just thrive under certain managers and gel with the club and that type of thing, and that helps drive them on to an even higher level. They’ve got to have the amazing ability, hunger and application though to start with and willingness to learn.
The likes of Ronaldo were so good though, and Messi and Maradona they may well have become greats no matter which club they were at so long as it was fairly big.
I don’t think Trent’s in that bracket, he’s a special talent though that we’ve adapted a system around which has helped him develop further. Some clubs probably couldn’t have given him that luxury. Does he owe us though, no probably not.

16 Jan 2025 13:58:26
The media in Spain will be worse then England if he has a few poor games. He should imo use his loaf and sign for Liverpool instead of playing in a league nobody takes any notice of. If he leaves I hope he would never return.
18.) 16 Jan 2025
16 Jan 2025 14:11:00
Maybe I should just add that there isn't a contract yet for Trent to sign. He may very well still want to stay but as long as there isn't an offer for him to agree to, there isn't much that he can do. I have to say his silence is somewhat encouraging though since it could mean that he wants to stay. If he has already made up his mind to leave, I have a feeling that both he and the club would have already released a statement saying as such.

Rigsby, I didn't mean to discredit Ronaldo. His part in his own ascension cannot be understated.
My point I was trying to make is more about how other teams fans have treated legends when they've departed. Arsenal fans still worship Henry. Chelsea fans will still fight you to the death if you say Salah is better than Hazard. I think Trent has earned our respect and blessing to do what he wants for the rest of his career.

16 Jan 2025 16:15:29
Fair points, JordanSimon and MK.
I replied in the way I did because the way Ronaldo's former teammates talk about him is incredible. It seems his professionalism, determination and attitude, alongside his undoubted ability, were on a different level to everyone else.
No offence was meant.
I don't get the stick TAA gets either. He's won everything with us and if he wants to try other things and get a huge signing on fee, good luck to him.
If he wants to stay, that's great for us.
21.) 16 Jan 2025
16 Jan 2025 16:32:28
@MK Ronaldo was a world record fee.
Henry was 30 and had spent his best years at Arsenal went for around 25 million which was half the world transfer record, if we got say 80 for Trent it would again be different. Hazard went for huge money again. It's the fact a local guy is leaving the club on a free that people have an issue with.

ARE YOU serious right now? Because any spanish, portugese, brazilian, argentinian kid Growing up Dreams of Barcelona or Madrid, you talk some real nonsense sometimes. Know what team Trent dreamt of when young playing on the streets? LIVERPOOL. Only reason to leave is money and no you get no respect for chasing money when already paid millions.

Dslatt- nobody is or was ever going to pay 80 million for Trent ever, I guarantee if Trent was under contract for another 2 years nobody’s bidding for him.
