Are we going to be in a better position to win the league?
City will be back to their best next year, Arsenal getting Zubamendi and will buy a world class striker. Chelsea will be settled and will be much better.
It's vital we add players this window to push on and win number 20.

Lots of assumptions there. Whilst I agree it's important to try and strengthen this window, I doubt many of our rivals will do much in January themselves, more likely in the summer.

Slot puts us in good position for title but made the squad outperformed. As biz men of FSG, i will want to spend as little to achieve biz objectives.

1.Is winning the league title a business objective of FSG (as budget approver)?

2.even if title is objective, is the budget aka "financial framework" good enough to purchase players we need for title push? Especially in Jan?

Adding players in January doesn't mean we will the League. We've done it before and not won the League.

Fortunately Richard Hughes has just briefed Ornstein that he is monitoring Rafael Leao. If he was to leave in January or the summer there is a possibility he could monitor him further with a view to being aware of the situation.

This site really needs a spam/ troll filter.

Exactly the same posts just with slightly different wording multiple times a day by the same people. This tedious hate speech that they are attempting to cloak as comedy is getting in the way of what is an excellent site.

@Rigsby, we should do what we can to improve our title chances. And buying quality players who can step into when there are injuries, loss of form, this goes a long way to boost. Also it signals an serious intention from owners they are backing Liverpool's title charge, definitely raise morale of players, fans.

As someone who has been on the receiving end of hate speech, this isn't anything close to it, Shipley. It's banter albeit poor ones that are regurgitated and stolen from other social media accounts on X and insta. It's tedious and mildly annoying but it is just them expressing their dissatisfaction. The truly hateful and trolly ones, I'm sure the Eds have already filtered out.

I'm sorry that has happened to you @Dracred - nobody should ever have to go through that. The fact is though that it is not banter, it is constant uneducated personal attacks on specific individuals. You can pass a one-off post as banter but when you are posting the exact same post 10 times a day over the course of several days that is in no way shape or form banter. You of all people should recognise that.

Equally though, Rigsby, failing to adequately address shortcomings in the squad at critical times has cost us massively in recent years. There are plenty of examples, in 20/ 21, we desperately needed centre backs, were top of the league at the end of December, failed to do anything about it until the last day with two desperation signings who were both woeful, any chance of winning the league had disappeared by mid February. Then 22/ 23, was pretty clear that the season before had taken its toll, we had lots of ageing, injury prone players in midfield, should have done something about it, chose to sign an injury prone desperation loan signing rather than address this issues, ended up out the champions league the next season. 23/ 24, we were going reasonably well, but it was clear we were still short in midfield, we lacked a top quality defensive midfielder (still do in fairness), we dropped a bollock in the summer window with the Caicedo/ Lavia farce, we decided not to take any action in January and then fell away horribly around the end of March/ April time and were pretty much out of the title race in April. We’ve got exactly the same squad as last year (Chiesa has barely played so it’s not worth counting him) we’re beginning to look very leggy in midfield and our defence is looking shaky as well, it does feel like recent history is just repeating itself. I don’t want us acting like Chelsea and spending stupidly on players who will never play, but at the same time refreshing the squad periodically by moving players on who aren’t contributing and also making quality additions when needed isn’t unreasonable. Standing still is moving backwards. After winning the league in 19/ 20 there is no argument against the point that we have regressed.

@Brummy, how about we deal with next yere/ season when we get there. We have a league to win this year/ season already so I would sooner focus on Brentford right now than whatever the football could, may or may not happen next season. Just my take.

Lee, we should strengthen and increase our chances of winning the League if we can. The key words being 'if we can'.
I'm not saying we can't or that we can because I don't know.
I know that just signing any player won't necessarily do that though.
I would like a couple of signings though but I have no idea if we could do it or not and whether they would improve us or not.

Vik, we were not top of the League in the December of the 20/ 21 season.
I'm almost certain about that.
Wasn't that the season we lost VvD, Gomez and Matip to long term injuries? Then when Henderson and Fabinho covered their positions and also got injured? A freak season, really.
Expecting a club to go out and buy three top centre halves to cover for injuries is pushing it, isn't it?

All this talk of signing players in January is fully dependent on one assumption that most seem to be making. that players for the positions we need cover are available and willing to move. If I'm not mistaken that's usually the first step required to sign a player. I imagine most clubs don't want to lose top players half way through the season.

@Stuie and in some areas, we need people to leave first in order to bring people in. It's all part of squad management. For ex., people want new LB. Well, how are you going to do that if either one of Tsimikas (who is playing well currently) and Robbo (who is struggling) don't get sold nor want to go or if Slot needs both of them?

You can't BUT it seems this reality flies over these people's heads all the time.
