There's abit on obsession with Bellingham at the moment but to me it only really makes sense if we either switch to a 4-2-3-1 or if we are basically dropping Hendo to a backup CDM role behind Fabinho.

Bellingham in a Midfielder 2 seems to make sense but if we keep our current formation then he doesn't address the Fabinho cover requirement at all, so I imagine he'd need to take Hendos place with Hendo dropping to backup.

Either way, it seems to me like Hendo drops out of the starting 11. What are everyone's thoughts on that? I'm a big fan and I think its important to have your captain on the pitch, especially one whos as vocal as he is and drives the rest of the team. Is Hendo dropping out over the next year or so part of the next phase of our team?

Tbh if we got Bellingham then I would see hendo taking on the Milner role and rotating between both 6 and 8. In theory if he stayed healthy then no need to sign a Fab cover as Hendo not too bad in there. Bring him on for last 20/ 30 mins if needed for his leadership or if we are struggling.

Still need to sign someone this year though, will be the difference between winning the league or not imo. Shocked so many would be happy going in with our current midfield options. Yes they aren’t terrible but unless we upgrade on Hendo and Keita I don’t see us winning anything significant unfortunately. In desperate need of some energy and legs in the middle of the park.

Thats exactly what will happen, Hendo becomes backup to Fab! Even this year i think Hendo will play a lot of his football there.

I’d love to see us get a goal scoring midfielder. City are our biggest rival and it’s the only area they are better than us at.

In the last 3 seasons Kdb has 34 league goals and Gundogen 23. If you stop our forwards from scoring then our other biggest threat is set pieces. If we added a goal scoring midfielder that can hit them from 25 yards it’ll give teams parking the bus something else to worry about.

Give the lad chance for goodness sake?
He’s only 18, but still hugely promising.
He’ll develop, get stronger and more game-wise as he gets older and there’s no reason at all why he can’t be a versatile midfielder.

JK23, we need cover for Fab right now as clearly, Bellingham won’t be happening this season, IMO. Goal scoring midfielders are hard to get and cost a lot i. e Bellingham and besides, not too bothered about being like City cos we don’t set up the same hence, don’t play the same way and Pep likes having mid’s all over the pitch while Klopp does not.

I wouldn't call Bellingham a goal scoring midfielder by the way, I know he's only young but he plays a lot of football and only gets 4 or 5 in all comps every year so far.
I rate the lad obviously! I'm just saying he's not going to come in and start banging goals in, if we start getting goals from somewhere else I'm expecting it to be from a player like Carvalho from a 10 position.

Oli I think Hendo can do the job of filling in for Fab. I think the issue is we play well when Fab, Hendo and Thiago are all on the pitch together. When Fab doesn’t play and Hendo drops in then there’s also the predicament of who replaces Hendo. That’s where I think a goal scoring midfielder could really help us.

And the beauty is we might already have that player here in Elliot or Carvalho. But more goals from midfield is definitely what we are missing if we were nit picking.

The forward get accused of not being clinical enough but they still provide 60+ League goals a season. Where as our midfielders got 14 and that’s between 8 of them combined.
