Very pleased with the signing of Darwin Nunez. He's got all of the raw ingredients that Jurgen could wish for in a forward and I look forward to seeing this new project unfold.

On a different note, I hear noises from local press about us perhaps choosing not to add a midfielder this summer, citing the pursuit of Bellingham next summer as the reason.

Personally I think this would be a big mistake if true. We desperately need some athletic cover in defensive midfield. You only have to look at where the PL was lost - games that Thiago was unavailable for eg Brentford (a), City (h) Brighton (h), Spurs (a), Leicester (a), Chelsea (a) and West Ham (a) . Games whereby we couldn't establish any control when needed.

We may have to make room yes but I'd like to think we can do that with moving Ox and Naby on. I would also argue that Curtis may benefit from a year long loan to develop some consistency over more minutes.

Think Naby is staying as is Curtis … maybe Ox to go if he wants to move … agree we could do with someone in midfield… but I don’t see it being a big name… next season Bellingham will be up for grabs but competition to sign him could be intense and not sure we would be successful in getting him…. Will be down to the player I suppose.

Young guy at Lyon… don’t know his name… could be an option.

All those games you mentioned Flypelicanfly? Naby hardly played in those games either.

Good point Irish rover but then doesn’t that also highlight one of the issues with naby? …. availability!

do you mean we need athletic cover for thiago because the game changes without thiago there?

I agree we do need to refresh the midfield but maintain that the club should stick to their recruitment policy. Their timing and selections have been nigh on perfect so would just trust what they can do in the market. Never a fan of short term fixes to a problem as that just creates longer term issues to resolve and I think our recruitment team have learned from that.

Hendo was signed in 2011. In 2012, he was almost sold to Fulham. In 2014, he became vice-captain and then soon after captain - therefore confirming that it can take 2-3 years to cement your place in this team. We all agree that Thiago and Hendo are on the down curve and will have to cede their place in maybe a year or two (I doubt that Thiago will stay beyond next summer when his contract expires - the call from home club Barcelona will be too strong) . Do we all also agree that definitely two of Jones, Keita, Morton, Elliott and Carvalho will take over from Hendo and Thiago with equal quality? Not for me. It's a risk. Let one or both of Keita and Ox go, and go out and get a backup for Fabinho and the CM position. Using Hendo as Fabinho's backup is fine, but still a weak link because Hendo is not always available, and will be less so, as time goes along.

I'm forgetting about Bellingham. Seeing all the crazy hype over him tells me it will be astronomical amounts. And the LFC that I know will not break the club transfer record two years in a row.

OP, you can’t win all your games so the games you mentioned are not the main issue. Losing 10 points from actual winning positions (City lost just 2 vs at the Etihad) is where the real issue is. Also, not winning at least two games vs other tip 4 clubs was also a problem. Fix that and we win the league. But again, hindsight is a beautiful thing.

I’m a massive fan of Elliott, the lad is going to be a world beater, the little I’ve seen of Carvalho (you tube) suggests the same.

My concern about the pair of them, particularly with our system, is what positions suit them best?

I can’t see either fitting in as pressing midfielders, or as rapid attackers from the wings.

I’m sure others here have seen them more, what is the plan for them?

Watch Klopp pull a fast "Wiji" and convert one of our AMs (Jones, Elliott, Carvalho or any AM we end up buying this summer) into a CM, as he did with Wijnaldum. (Just kidding, but you never know) .

I think ed01 is on to it with how he sees Nunez fitting into the team. One of the points noted was that If, as expected, Nunez plays more like a typical number 9 up againts the back line rather than drop in like Bobby does it means the midfield will need to be quicker and get forward more than they currently do. Not what I had envisioned personally but that would likely mean the two midfields either side of Fabs would be more attack minded rather than the current role of recyclers and covering for the full backs. In my mind, Elliot, Carvalho and Jones would be perfect for such a role.

it would be interesting to see if Nunez plays like a traditional #9. The more higlights and full games I've managed to fit in he looks more and more like a winger. Bit like Henry. but surprisingly was good to see him involved all over the pitch in the press, link-up play etc etc. I think we have a real player here who will be busy all over the pitch like Suarez. I'm not so sure we should be expecting a traditional #9 based on what I've seen.
