Is it me Ed’s or is all Arsene Wengers ideas awful?

Don’t know what’s happened to the man, is it money?

{Ed001's Note - it is difficult to come up with ideas to improve a sport like footie, but at least he is creating a conversation and trying to move things forward.

there are loads more ideas to improve the game other than kick-ins imo hahaha it would definitely change the game, but not sure I'm ready for basically free kick crosses from the attacking third all game

for me I'd like to see the refs stamp out the time wasting and also the behaviour towards referees.

What's everyone's thoughts on making the game 1 genuine hour long, stopping the clock whenever the ball is dead?
Apparently we'd get about 5 extra minutes of football.

What makes them think kick ins would speed up the game? Surely just put a time limit on throws in? If it’s not been thrown after 5 seconds it goes to the opposition.
Kick ins would just get all of the centre backs up so they can launch it into the box. Surely that would take longer?
I get that they are trying to improve the amount of time the ball is in play but their logic is so flawed most of the time.

The game is pretty much fine as it is. Only change I really want to see is less time wasting and less diving/ playacting.

The thing is with time, is that it also needs a change in culture for how the game is officiated. Yes, you could say 60 minutes and stop the clock etc. But for me, it would work, if it was consistently applied at all levels. so as soon as ball crosses the line, time stops. Time re-starts only once the ball is thrown / kicked etc, just like in basketball. But the problem for me is that I see no evidence to suggest that the officials will be able to implement this consistently across the board.

I’d get rid of VAR and encourage / educate the referee and linespersons (if that’s the plural) appointed for the match to watch what’s going on and use their authority to make their own decisions.

I think that would be a good start.

We went through 2-3 years of both comical and idiotic experimentation with VAR before it settled down. So trying out the "kick-ins" for a season can't be that bad an idea. It'll put some throw-in coaches out of work; so let them coach kick-ins. And we'll know for sure if wasted time is being saved.

The funny thing is that in the U17 WC in 1993, the Kick-in was experimented and it led to a lot of goals being scored esp after the halfway line on the opposing half cos they were more like corners/ set pieces depending on the quality of delivery. Japan had a player named Ziazen who was brilliant at it BUT either way, the plan was scrapped after the tournament.

Wenger is not doing or introducing anything new nor is he reinventing footie. This has been tried before by FIFA 30 years ago so try are only doing a retry cos times have changed. That said if it does get implemented, it will benefit LFC cos of the dead ball quality we have.

I would like lots to change personally but its always difficult.
Complete removal of subjectivity from the rules for a start. If it hits your hand or arm it’s handball. End of discussion. It doesn’t matter if it was accidental or not. Offside is offside. Doesn’t matter if it hits an oppo team player, or the offside player is 20 metres away up by the touch line having nothing to do with the play. If it’s off he’s off. I would stop the clock when the ball is out of play and shorten the official length of the game as suggested above to stop time wasting Pickfords, I mean players.
I would also do away with penalties all together, to offset my previous handball comment, or at the very least make the area in which penalties can be awarded much smaller and in my opinion fairer. Fouled on the line at the corner of the 18 yard box when there are 10 men behind the ball and no clear way through but then you get an almost guaranteed goal? That has never sat right with me and encourages diving and cheating.
Temp subs for concussions and that sort of potential injury would also come in as would Rugby standard of video officiating, whereby the on field ref can ask if he didn’t see an incident, rather than relying on being advised if he missed something.
