Ed0666 I see people Comparing Jota to Origi's goal record what is very silly I think we should of sold Origi after the champions league final win when his value was at its peak. Jota's value is at it's peak now and should be sold his been here 2 seasons now and his build up play has not improved at all. Origi is a lot better footballer his biggest weakness is he is to nice played out of position playing mainly left wing and and he is a striker and most of his goals have come when Origi has played when he comes on as a striker. Now Jota has been moved out wide his goals have dried up. After 60 minutes of the spurs game I was screaming at the tv to get Origi on because they are the games he has come on and won us games I think this season when played I think Origi's form has been as good as it was before the horror tackle on him by that Everton defender.

{Ed0666's Note - I agree with you 100% mate. My sentiments entirely

I find it interesting that people value build up play more than goals being scored. I thought goals won games, not build up play?

Sure, you could argue that his losing the ball in this build up play occasionally led to goals (our defensive record suggests otherwise) . Do I get frustrated when he loses the ball in those situations? Sure. But I forgive him when he bags a difficult header a few minutes later.

And just for the record, Bobby has had spells where his buildup play is atrocious (like the wolves game) . But he’s still Bobby.

I’m sure many of you think we actually “missed out” on Mbappe too. The replacement that could have been I suppose…

The bottom line is Jota is a vital member of this team, works hard, and scores goals. Find something else to complain about.

Completely agree re. Origi. When he scored those goals in the semi final against Barcelona and then the final against Tottenham I really thought we'd sell him that summer, as he was never going to be higher in value than he was then, and he also wasn't likely to get much of a look in when the main three strikers were fit. On the back of those very high profile performances and with the market as it was then, I reckon we could have got £25m+.

Don't see it comparable at all with Jota's situation though. Sure, maybe his value is at it's peak - who knows, but in Origi you're talking about a player who never played regularly and hardly ever started, unless we had injuries. So taking the opportunity to sell a player like that whose value had peaked because of a few high profile recent performances would have been quite smart. Jota on the other hand is clearly a key part of our squad and very much in Klopp's plans. He starts regularly and scores a lot of goals. Completely different to the situation with Origi back then.

Too many sentimental people around!
Ye can’t him and him he won the league with us etc!
Be ruthless keep lads on their toes!

Origi has 41 goals in 6 seasons. Jota has 34 goals in 2 seasons.

There is no comparison.

This debate is ridiculous. Jota has been great since his arrival. Goals speak 4 themselves.

26 May 2022 16:16:27
Origis ‘peak’ value would have been what? I wouldn’t assume much seems the lads good for morale and somehow makes a difference when he comes on, we made the right decision keeping him. A lot of the people slating jota are the same as the ones who slated mane earlier on the season, jota is a good option to have especially for a team who plays as many games as we tend to. plus this isn’t fifa can’t just say ‘jota £50 million please’ and spend it elsewhere.

I love to see that stats for chances taken compared to chances missed for both players, factoring in the amount of game time for both.
I don’t think it’s a fair comparison MK considering the amount of game time Jota has had compared to Origi. Especially considering the level and quality of other players in the team now.
I do think it was only sensible to let Origi move on but I’d say the same for Jota. Feel he’s extremely limited.

26 May 2022 17:20:05
Apart from his goals Jota has been mostly poor and doesn’t quite fit in the team properly. He will be great in a team that’s more suited to him and will fetch a decent price if we fancied cashing in now before he declines. I would absolutely sell if someone wanted to offer good money for him.

Klopp-alypse, of course it's a fair comparison. The variables are irrelevant. If Origi played in worse teams then you could argue he should've played more minutes than he did. If he was used more as a squad player he's probably had a lot of minutes against lesser opposition in the cups whilst Jota has been bagging mostly in the Premier League and Champions League.

There's too many variables to hyper analyse this debate. Simple fact is that Jota scores more goals for us and therefore he is a better striker. That's not really up for debate. Maybe Origi would have more goals if "xyz" had gone in his favour. If my aunt had balls she's be uncle.

I love Origi. He's a cult hero and he'll never be forgotten. If he was fit i'd probably back him to score on Saturday off the bench because he has that knack. But if he was half as good as Jota is then he would've averaged more than 7 goals a season. Jota's averaging 17 a season. There are levels to this game and Origi has never forced his way into this team as a key player even in the era when we had Sturridge, Borini, Lambert and Balotelli up front!

10.) 26 May 2022
26 May 2022 17:53:36
We wanted quality players coming in to challenge the established forward line! we buy 2 such players, we've a quality front 5 which is what we've always wanted and what's the 1st reaction? SELL, SELL, SELL!

11.) 26 May 2022
26 May 2022 18:21:33
Klopp is extremely loyal to his squad, his players don’t get sold unless they want to go by and large or unless their contracts are up.
That’s part of the reason for the solidarity and unity in the set up.
Jota did the business for Klopp during the Afcon and I don’t see any way whatsoever that he’ll be sold.

{Ed0666's Note - that doesent mean he shouldn’t be tho

12.) 26 May 2022
26 May 2022 18:54:20
We must be the only fan base in world football that wants to sell all of our goalscoring forwards for either being too old at 30 or their values at their peak.

If it was up to some our front 3 next season would be Origi, Mino and Bobby. Thank god we don’t make the decisions and Klopp does.

{Ed0666's Note - some of us also like our forwards to be industrious, link play, know how to pass to a team mate as well as score goals

13.) 26 May 2022

Hardest part of game is scoring goals. End of. If you prefer non goal scoring strikers then I can’t help you.

At the end of the day Origi would have played more if he’d been a better player, as would David Fairclough back in the day.

Jora has a natural instinct for getting in position to score goals - he is by far our most natural goal scorer. Unfortunately his overall technique isn’t a real ‘fit’ for the way JK wants us to play, so whilst he is here there will always be a debate about his worth to the team. In my opinion he is an ideal go to’ man for the last 30 minutes if we need a goal or two and he is a good back-up if we need a stand in for an injury to our starting number 9.

{Ed0666's Note - don’t get my hopes up

20.) 26 May 2022
26 May 2022 22:58:26
If we kept Origi and sold Jota, Origi still wouldn't play very much and we'd probably buy a replacement for Jota.
I reckon Origi wants to play. Let him go and play regularly.

21.) 26 May 2022
26 May 2022 23:35:09
54 appearances Jota has made this season. Not bad for a player that is crap.

22.) 27 May 2022
27 May 2022 08:20:29
JK23, I have never said Jota is crap nor should he be sold. Many of us are just saying he needs to improve his all round game cos that is what most of the time, is killing his game and staunts our movements in attack.

If it was all about goals, Bobbie would have been sold years ago yet he is STILL here near a decade so clearly it is not all about goals. Even Salah improved his all round game and so did Sadio to the point of him being Balon d’Or-worthy so again, I ask you: What’s Jota’s excuse for being continuously poor in this regard? I’ll wait.

23.) 27 May 2022
27 May 2022 09:02:54
Oli you’ve said many a time that Jota stinks up the place. You might not use the word crap but you’re hardly paying him a compliment.

It’s quite obvious that Jota is not in the first choice starting front 3 the last few months and deservedly so. But neither is Bobby and in fact If you watch Bobby over the last few months his ability to pass the ball to the opposition is very Jota like. I think in about 12 passes last Sunday against wolves he gave the ball away 8 times but I notice your knives aren’t out for him.

But it’s all about double standards with you.
