Bit of light hearted fun to change things up. the BBC website are doing a 'choose your greatest ever Liverpool XI'. It's a set group, but there are a lot of them in there and my word have we had some incredible players through the years! I'm still stuck picking my defence!

{Ed0666's Note - Nicol, Aurelio, Virgil, Jockey, you’re welcome mate.

Not bad, 0666. I can't leave out Mark Lawrenson so I'd play him left back.
You were very close though, haha.

Alisson
Neal, Hansen, Virgil, Kennedy
Gerrard, Souness, Alonso
Dalglish, Rush, Barnes.

Had exactly the same as you A-Klopp except trent for Kennedy and Neil as left back. Pretty easy to choose tbh.

What polls of this type show is that we have had some incredible players wearing the red shirt over the years.

I made sure my side included Hansen, Souness, Daglish and Rush.

BTW could you imagine a midfield 3 of Molby, Alonso and Thiago! the passing range would be off the charts.

I went:

Grobelaar
Neal, Thommo, Hansen, Kennedy
Gerrard, Hendo, Souness
Dalglish, Rush, Barnes

Hendo has earned his place. Legend is thrown about a bit easily nowadays but with over 10 years of service and 6 different trophies lifted as captain (most in our history) he has cemented his legend status. The most under rated player of his generation.

Nearly had a mental collapse trying to pick from the selection on offer. So lucky to see pretty much all of them since the early sixties. Too many greats to pick from; just feel so lucky to have watched so many fabulous players. Long may it continue, particularly this Saturday night. 😉.

Aurelio over Robbo Ed that's some shout but granted only for his injuries Aurelio was a brilliant LB.

{Ed0666's Note - don’t forget his free kicks mate, his footballing IQ and his boundless energy!! Fantastic player generational talent

No Hansen Ed?

{Ed0666's Note - yes mate Hansens nickname was Jockey!! It would be sacrilegious not to have Jockey in an all time liverpool team.

Can only speak from 90s onwards as I was way too young to watch anything before.

Alisson
Trent Sami VVD Robbo

Gerrard Hendo Alonso

Salah Suarez Mane

I know a lot don’t like suarez but as a player he was phenomenal. And yes most are from the current team but this is comfortably our best team since the 90s!

{Ed0666's Note - that team would win the World Cup mate

Can I pick a favourite team rather than ‘greatest’?

Brucie

Rob Jones, Crazy Horse (‘Liverpool are magic’ 😁), Dagger, Chris Lalwler

Stevie Heighway, Cally, Terry Mac, Digger

God, Sir Roger

As I say, not the greatest team (although not a bad team) but great memories from across the years.

Oh and you forgot Rob Jones who had Giggs in his pocket on his debut.

Suarez and Torres was the dream front two that Kenny Dalglish wanted, but Torres pulled the rug from under Kenny's feet and left when Luis came in the same January window.

Suarez and Torres and Gerrard behind, would of won us many more premier leagues, had that chance happened.

Clemence
Trent, Hansen, VVD, Robertson
Gerrard, Souness, Barnes
Dalglish, Fowler, Rush.

I'd find it hard to leave out Suarez but I'd have to have Dalglish, Rush and Barnes in. Then there's Salah to fit in. Maybe Peter Beardsley?
Keegan was just before my time but what I've seen of him he was a great player, too. Very much a Klopp player.
