Think the disappointment comes from villa blowing a 2-0 lead with 15 minutes to go. That's the thing that still sticks with me. A league is over 38 games and the first half of the season made it hard for ourselves. Think stevie definitely was deflated with what could have been but made a few poor decisions towards the end of the game. Those villa defenders were always going to be found put though to a brilliant man City team but 2 goals up with 15 to go. hopefully Saturday will rid this disappointment.

Shouldn’t be reliant on other teams to win us the league!

{Ed077's Note - have LFC beaten Man City in the league in this decade(2020s)?

Agree that ideally you put yourselves in a position whereby it doesn't matter what others do and that, more often than not, the final table doesn't lie.

However, I think the point was (and it's exactly how I feel too) that regardless of what had happened in the previous 37 matches, we found ourselves in a position in the final match that I don't think many of us expected - City losing 2-0 at home with less than 20 minutes remaining in a match they had to win. Admittedly there wasn't actually a time in the match when City were dropping points whilst we were taking maximum points but with City trailing and us needing just to find a winning goal, I really thought we were going to do it. For City to come back in the way they did, three goals in six minutes, felt like a massive body blow.

It would have felt less disappointing if City had wrapped it up by half-time. I went into yesterday with very little expectation and not expecting to feel any great disappointment if it didn't go our way. But given the way the City match unfolded, I felt gutted by the end.

Really shouldn’t be relying on others to do our work. Villa were professional and did their absolute best to make a game of it. Our failure to win against Brighton and Brentford caused us to finish second.

As for opposition fans who mock us, they’re so far behind they should be concerned as they’ve not caught up for four or five years and are as far behind now as then and aren’t likely to ever get close, If they’re equally as happy when city win it year in year out without contest for the next 10-20 years then we’ll see.

only our selves to blame but completely agree - had zero expectation yesterday but it's the hope that kills! Also, doesn't help that Villas defending was abysmal for the goals!

Fully agreed vvvv. what a season. we ran them all the way and they know it. Lot of ifs and buts and var decisions. Mock us at your peril. More City fans in disguise than there's city fans. We are the only team challenging them EVERY season. Win the champs league. regroup and take them on again next season with more hunger.

Just to add to this, I believe if we could've gotten our nose in front against Wolves earlier, especially if it was before half time in the games, it would've put more pressure on City and therefore had an effect on the outcome.

An absorbing last day though! No point in navel gazing, we still have a job to do next weekend!

can we really blame a few odd results? we got 92 points and if that isn't good enough then sorry we have to just say that City were the better this time around, But we have had an amazing season the team is a joy to behold, and we still have old big ears to go for on Saturday. what a team. YNWA.

Exactly worzal we dont"have ourselves to blame"we've had an absolutely amazing season! it just happens City were as good and pipped us. Strange results happen to every team every year.

We had a near perfect season, after people were talking about us not even achieving top 4. Nothing but proud of this team, the league wasn’t done literally till the final whistle let’s get behind this brilliant lot! Doesn’t matter what happens next week, extremely proud of this team!

Have City beaten LFC in this decade the 2020s? We are by far the superior team and will continue to be we have gobbled up the cups this season and Man City won the league due to having the referees to n their back pocket. If we never win the league again and continue to win the champions league I will be more than happy. We all know the the BPL is as a corrupt cartel. But we will continue to upset the apple cart for years to come we are a shining light amongst a sea of cheats and backhanders. We are a true Rocky Balboa story and the greatest team to ever come out of England of this I am so proud a group of honest and true fighters who on Saturday night will achieve something I am quite sure Man City will never achieve.

People are taking things for granted when they bring up the "we only have ourselves to blame". garbage.
I read an article the other day that puts huge perspective on how good this team is, and where it stands compared to the sides before it historically.
It read "Liverpool’s celebrated 85/ 86 league-cup double winning side had the luxury of drawing 10 and losing six games over that league season. Shankly’s third and final league title, in 1973-74, was achieved with seven defeats and 10 draws. "
Let that sink in. We've lost 2 league games all season and drawn 8, and missed out on the Premier League by a point. We've won both domestic trophies and have a CL final to come.
I fully understand the disappointment, but it needs to be acknowledged how City and ourselves are currently poles apart from from the rest of the country. What both teams have achieved is astonishing.
The standards set by ourselves and City are nothing short of astonishing.
If it wasn't for City we'd be totally unopposed as the dominant footballing force in this country. As it is, the title is well and truly shared in my book.

Edd001 what did you think when villa were 2-0 up at city up until 75 minutes? I thought we were more likely not to win than City to win up until the last 20.

{Ed001's Note - at no time did I believe City would not make a comeback as I don't believe Gerrard has a clue how to change his team tactically during a game.}

I was the same, Cookee. We looked like we were struggling for ideas and I wasn't watching the City game. I was relieved when City went 3-2 up, haha.
I did see Tyrone Mings tee up de Bruyne to set up their third goal though.

And with that statement Ed001 has shown us all why we must not let Gerrard take over from Klopp.

We have seen what happens when club legends are allowed to manage clubs with Ole and Frank, we cannot follow in those footsteps.

A lot of supporters have trouble seperating the player from the manager, we got lucky with Daglish, not so lucky with Souness.

A big season coming up for Gerrard at Villa, they will back him in the transfer market and will expect to finish at lot higher than they have this season.

{Ed001's Note - it is something he could learn to do, to be fair.}
