Ed001, heartbreaking loss once again for the second time it's gone down to final day. Do you agree with me and my mates that even if we win the champions league we have massively underperformed in the league with the level of players we have, the kompany screamer, the Rodri handball and gundogan goal have been ridiculously lucky moments. Klopp and these players will go down in history in our books as greats but in most other peoples opinions won't because we have only be able to win one league title and it should be at least 2 or 3?.

{Ed001's Note - no. How can we expect to compete against a team that even has its own set of officials, as well as all the money in the world?}

We have done. we have more than competed, we have won the title once and deserve to win in at least once more, our team in lfc minds will go down in history as one of the best ever. And it is just a shame they are extremely lucky and get goal out of nothing.

Ed001 I love the way nothing has been said about the Var decision city have got this season. It’s not just Everton game Southampton wolves Arsenal all have shocking var decisions. Then we had the spurs game Kane should have gone the push on Jota what the ref said was not a foul but the foul he gave spurs against Arsenal was nowhere near as bad. Then foul on Henderson against West Ham is a red card every game now but Var does nothing. Then 4 minutes stoppage time yesterday and there goalkeeper goes down for over 2 minutes treatment in stoppage time and the ref just still plays the 4 minutes because pep is waving his hands 🙌 I don’t want to be bitter if the better team won fair does but something needs to be looked into like Frank just about said the Everton game it looks like cheating not bad officiating.

Massively underperformed in the League? Seriously? Has to be one of the worst comments I've seen on this forum!
Massively unlucky or unfortunate even. The points this team has amassed and as you say taken the League twice to the last game and won the PL also. Klopp is a miracle worker when he is up against City's millions.

Was gutted we lost out yesterday and my mind keeps going back to the decisions given for City against Arsenal, us against Spurs the 'penalty' that saved them a point at Wolves, the handball at Everton - I mean some of the most blatantly wrong calls I've ever seen and in a season where VAR exists is just unbelievable. Even with those calls we were still only a point away too, what could or rather should have been.

Underperformed? Come on, we are all gutted about losing the title but no way did this team underperform. We had arguably our best play (vvd) coming off a whole season in injured and we were rusty in the early parts which has cost us some points and ultimately the title but no way have we underperformed.
City got some luck with VAR decisions but its 2 great teams going at it and we fell short. We'll come back again next season.

Oh and anyone who think this team will not go down as a great team does not know jack about football.

No way have they underperformed. It was a massive achievement dragging it back this season from 14 points back. What a bad comment how can you and your friends say that. Would you rather we choked like united and went in a spiral.

They'll never be us though.

I feel like Ed001 today too, so disappointed.
I truly hope that Klopp lifts at least one more PL before he calls it a day, he deserves it so much.

Massively underperformed?
Is that Manchester United you're on about here?
We missed out on the league title by a single point to one of the greatest teams ever.
We do have some drama queens following this club!

92, 97, 99. These are amazing points totals, and even more amazing that only one of these totals won the league for us!

I find it hard to be critical in the context that we've done everything possible. Yes there were dropped points but to not drop those points would have made the points collected even more impossible / improbable. We are really unfortunate to be competing with City right now.

We are on for the treble, if that’s massively underperforming, I’d like to see you definition of performing! Lol. In reality, the games we lost are the games that cost us the title, against teams that we on paper are far better than. Plus there were too many draws, one thing we need to improve on is beating our top 4 rivals…. we drew with city, Chelsea and spurs both home and away, whereas as city have a better record. Still the fact that city bottled it in the champions league and in all honesty probably have half the referees on their payroll with so many decision going their way, I think it has been an outstanding season for us, and I think pep realises that eventually it doesn’t matter how much money they throw at the league, we are going to take their title off them!

Last season we finished 4th because we deserved to finish 4th. The bitter pill to swallow for me is this season and the other season we finished 2nd we were at full throttle and still didn’t finish 1st.

City will continue to buy and strengthen whilst we live within our means. Next season we could go full throttle and end up winning the league or we could fall short again. But we might have to maintain this ridiculous standard we’ve set the last few years under Klopp without Salah, Mane and Bobby as every day that goes by that they don’t sign then the risk of losing them increases.

Every team has to evolve and we do too but I think when Mane and Salah need replacing we will see a drop off as their replacements find their feet and with City being our closest rivals any drop off won’t see us win the league.

The team have been fantastic this season and for a number of years now. I really hope they get what they deserve next Sat evening when they lift that CL trophy. But for me even though we only lost the league by 1 point our next Premier League title win feels like a way off and this team, manager and fan base deserve that title sooner rather than later.

We’ve been the only club close to city the last 5 years ( bar last season) no other club has went toe to toe with them! We’ve been amazing and to do it against a money printing machine like city speaks words!
That league is so hard now that a draw is a loss no margin of error!

Pep has spent close to half a billion more than Klopp over broadly the same timeframe.

What he is doing is miraculous.

How in the name of god you can underperform having obtained 92 points is mind blowing.

First, I agree with your assessment 100% Ed
Second, underperformed? Seriously? We've played every match possible this year and only lost 2 in the league
Third, Pep is a checkbook manager.

JK23 - I thought we finished 3rd last season, after playing most of it without the best CB in the world, Matip and Gomez crocked, and so many different team combinations due to our horrific injury problems.

Look, City will never stop doing what they're doing and if it wasn't for us the PL would have been gone by Christmas - in fact, most punters thought it was.

They have just spent about a third of a billion on a deal for Haaland, when you take everything into consideration, No one can compete with that in the PL. It will be the same with Newcastle now too. Give it 5 seasons and they will be winning plenty of trophies too.

The way we have performed over the past 4/ 5 seasons has been phenominal, and long may it continue.

Never under performed. we dropped a few points we shouldn't have done. We go again next season. again we'll have to be near perfect to win it. Klopp has brought us back from the dulldrums. Var hurt thus season in more ways than 1. Excited about carvalho could be the missing link for creativity.
Roll on Saturday.

We did finish third in 19/ 20.

I try and not think about money. I don't know how it all works and I'm not that bothered.
We've got a great side and a great manager and I know how they work.
If we don't win I know it's not because they didn't work hard.
It's not all about winning for me.

I do remember giving up on the PL in January after City were given Christmas gifts (from the PGMOL) at Arsenal and at home versus Wolves whilst we had that awful refereeing performance at Spurs. And then weeks after that we saw the favourable decisions at St James' Park and Goodison (the Hand of Rod) .

I am sure City will argue that Milly should have seen red in the game at Anfield and Fab got away with a second yellow at Etihad too.

To run City to the wire is remarkable really.

In my mind, much like 18/ 19, I put it down to the fact that we didn't beat them at Anfield. In fact, it turns out we've not beaten any of the top 4 this season in our head to heads.

We were the best team in the league this season and deserved the title.
City had the benefit of directly gaining 6 points at least from wrong (or corrupt) VAR decisions very late in games. I can’t think of any wrong decisions we had that had a direct impact on the result.
They are a great team but they were helped along the way to the title this season there’s no doubt about it.
