In all fairness we have to give credit to Inter for running us close over 2 legs.

Aswell as having good players and being well organised, I don’t think we’ve played a more physical side all season. Better sides - yes. Chelsea and City offer more threat, but Inter were in our faces, worked hard and certainly put the tackles in.

Pleased we’re through with no injuries but it possibly shows the need for another combative midfielder. Fabs can’t play every game, nor can Hendo. Some of our players don’t shine when it comes down to a scrap.

What about that 50/ 50 that El Capitano roared into, down near the touch line and benches?
It wouldn’t have looked out of place in the 1965 game between the two teams lol
💪.

All good being in our faces mate but they didn't create much over 180 minutes. We were comfortable and on another day could have won by 3 or 4.

I never like losing but what I was pleased about was us showing some nous and taking 0-1 without getting emotionally cavalier to preserve the unbeaten run and home record.
It was more important not to concede another than it was to not lose the game.
I mean, it's not as though we are not an attacking side anyway.

Inter also plays 3-5-2 unlike city which has always been a problem. Brozovic and Vidal were excellent. Vidal is older than Milner. Inter were also without Nicolo Barella.

He was bad Barry and I expect the club to listen to offers for him in the summer. I don’t see anything special about him at all.

Jones has to stay for me, kinda player we have to keep producing to compete with the Citys and Newcastles of this world. from watching the 2 games i wouldn't mind Brozovic on a free though.

They’re the best side I’ve seen come to Anfield and pass the ball since Man City. Their passing triangles were like a training exercise. We have done brilliant to get past them, quite comfortably as well. We could have scored 5/ 6 over the two legs.

Sorry to be that guy TT but Vidal is a year younger than Milner haha! I feel our midfield is a bit of a strange one. We have so many options for 3 places but there's only 3 of them I would say are untouchable in the transfer market: Fabinho, Elliott and Henderson. I'm not putting Thiago in that bracket despite his quality due to how injury-prone he is. I can definitely see a Curtis Jones to Aston Villa move in the summer.

Jones was replaced by Henderson, not so bad after all eh?

2-0 as always a funny lead to protect in my opinion.

Jones done well he got the ball and drove at there defence and as a young lad will learn a lot against inter as there a decent side but jota was shocking and mane wasn't his best game

With diaz now pushing for a first 11 spot interesting to see who digs deep and has what it takes to preform with players breathing down your neck to take your spot.

12.) 09 Mar 2022

I didn’t think Jones was that bad yesterday. Team seemed to be playing quite within themselves trying to manage the game. Also factor in that the inter team played out their skins for 2 games without really creating much. There pressing in midfield was brilliant and they really tried to stifle us. Didn’t think Vidal in particular had that left in the tank but he was immense.

Front 3 were shocking in the first half yesterday, particularly Jota. Just couldn’t get anything to stick.

Honestly didn't think Jones was all that good in the first half, but there were others (Thiago and Jota to name but two) with him in that boat that we don't seem to be as determined to fixate on.

Both he and Thiago started the second half much better, but then got subbed after we conceded a stupid goal that was nothing to do with either of them.

Most of his problems imo relate to decision making. He's tries to play his way through tight areas when sometimes it's better to check out of it and play backwards. Also takes a touch too many or a stride too many with the ball quite a bit. Just needs to learn when to do the simple thing.

17.) 09 Mar 2022
09 Mar 2022 15:44:32
Jota was horrendous.

18.) 09 Mar 2022
09 Mar 2022 17:08:14
Inter's pressing was impressive. Almost as good as ours, if not better, when we are using it extensively.

Jones was in and out of the game, while Jota was out for most of it. I was questioning why Diaz replaced Jota so late, unless it was to keep him as fresh as possible for the next game (s) . That's how I saw it. The moment Diaz steps onto the pitch he gives our attack a more pronounced bite. And he's already better than Jota in the pressing and regaining possession departments. But then Jota has that inbuilt radar of where the goal is, and he gets it in there more often that not.

Not bashing the kid, but Jones won’t make it for Liverpool if he continues to play like he is. All the tools but no brain and the lack of concentration on the ball, very sloppy player every time I watch him live.

{Ed0666's Note - he’s young and has time to improve. If he doesent make it at Liverpool he’ll still have a fine career

20.) 09 Mar 2022
09 Mar 2022 17:48:57
Jones biggest disadvantage was he was always compared to Mount and Foden who are light years ahead of him. I expect hime to move and have a decent career very much like Harry Winks at Spurs.

{Ed0666's Note - see Harry you can be nice.

21.) 09 Mar 2022
09 Mar 2022 16:03:25
Not sure we need to sale him coz he has got everything in he's locker and he's only 21.

Just needs to work on he's decision which is very very poor and needs to release the ball quicker instead of holding it taking few more touches and driving from deep that's not how our midfield/ team is built for. Coz our front 3 want quicker balls in their feet.

22.) 09 Mar 2022
09 Mar 2022 16:15:34
Jota through the middle (he did switch with Mane a couple of times, but he was in the center more than on the left) just does not work against a good side.

In fairness, he couldn't be accused of not trying last night, he did keep dropping deep to look to get on the ball, but his decision making with it was not good and, unusually, he presented little threat in the box.

{Ed001's Note - you could have stopped at work!}

24.) 09 Mar 2022
09 Mar 2022 18:44:39
In fairness both mount and foden usually play in the attacking positions whereas Jones plays in our midfield which Klopp likes to control the game and cover fullbacks. Gini was always a good example of how different a player could be under different set-ups when playing for the dutch. Jones is a top young player, a player who is curbing his more natural instincts to carry out the job his manager wants and i like that discipline out of such a young, naturally talented player. We want to produce players from the academy then whinge when there not guaranteed starters in probably the finest team in Europe by the age of 21.YNWA.

Inter for all their pressing and good ball movement, didn’t create one chance in that first half (or even the whole game bar the goal) so not sure what they were trying to accomplish. Also what’s the point pressing well with great energy if you can only do it for a half and be out on your feet by halftime? Ain’t buying that they played well cos you passed the ball well esp in their situation cos they needed to score in the first half, as Inzaghi himself said before the game.

Even tho we could have played better, we could have still put 3 past them without blinking and the goal they scored although a great goal, could have been avoided if VVD takes two steps forward to put Martinez off. He didn’t and we got done.

As for Jones, he had a rough start to the game but as soon as he got in rhythm, I thought he was phenomenal constantly driving at their midfield and defence forcing them into mistakes and fouls. Jones is a fine player and will keep getting better. I would ask that some of our own fans stop trying to sell him every chance they get BUT I know they won’t.

09 Mar 2022 21:01:29
You don't gave to worry about fans trying to sell Jones because they can't. It's all just opinions.
And at the end of it all only Klopp's opinion counts when it comes to players.

I'm confused. What did Jones do wrong last night? He was excellent. Pressed relentlessly and i don't remember him losing the ball. Carries it forward very well when the space is there. He basically does everything Wijnaldum did, but better. Sure he's not as silky as Foden or as incisive as Mount but he doesn't play the same position. They play in the front 3. If you put Jones in the German league people would want us to sign him for £80m.

Absolutely pathetic.

Curtis Jones turned 21 in January - he is still learning.

So far he has managed just over 60 first team games, so it seems the manager and coaching staff obviously think he has a significant part to play going forward.

He has the potential to be very, very good but he isn’t the finished article yet.

Rather than pass judgement on the kid, why not let him have a chance to learn his trade? Watching Fabs, Hendo, Thiago, Millie etc can’t be doing him (or Billy, for that matter) any harm. Who knows, perhaps in 3 or 4 years when Curtis is reaching his prime we can all post that he has turned into the world beater that we’ve always said he is. Just saying.

{Ed0666's Note - what he said

WDW, I was not aware that CJ had played that many games in such a short time. Klopp doesn't give out games for fun so if he has played that many games then, he must have deserved them all. Bravo, CJ!
