I just want to say what a fantastic football pundit Rio Ferdinand is. His insights into football is amazing and his predictions, flawless

End of last season, he dismissed Liverpool and say that there is no excuse for the poor season gone by and based on the league table, it was evident that Utd had not only caught up and overtaken Liverpool. That this season, they will be the main challengers to City.

I think we can all agree that he got that so right that we only managed to crush them 5-0 and City 4-1 when really it should be double digits. I think utd can do a lot more worse than to appoint him as manager and Gary Neville as Asst manager. It'll help them establish a dynasty.

As we all know about 98% of ex-players turned pundits talk absolute 💩 and Rio is a prime example. Long may it continue 😂.

Rio is blinkered and biased like lots and lots of fans are of every club even our very own including myself.

We build an emotional relationship to the club and certain players more than others and like a parent over a child, we refuse to have a bad word said about them. That's why football is so loved around the world because its not just a roller coaster but an emotional one. We love and we hurt with the club we have chosen to support.

{Ed025's Note - your spot on JK..

These pundits are shameless. Any normal person would cringe seeing their flakey positions crumble week by week.

Listening to Fabinho talk today makes you realise how much football has moved on. Far more articulate and intelligent than Rio and his mates.

Gary is another beast entirely. He stands on his soapbox, spouts some massive statements and is rarely called out for being utterly wrong on almost every occasion.

To be fair, I love to hear Roy Keane slagging off his old club and, I never thought I'd say it, I don't mind Gary Neville.

{Ed025's Note - im with you rome..

It's all about opinion, but Jamie Redknapp spouts sh*te most of the time and him and Carragher clearly don't get on, which is sometimes great to watch. And I've never got over Carragher gobbing out of his car window.

I absolutely despised Gary Neville as a player, horrible little git!
As a pundit he says it how he sees it and as much as it must pain him spends a lot of time saying how good we are :)

Nev's ok generally, but his properly sanctimonious attitude to the Super League, which was threatening to do what the PL and Sky Sports, whom he works for, was accused of doing 30 years ago, annoyed me. Not that I'm a fan of the Super League, but you can criticise something without mounting a massive high horse that I don't really think people employed by Sky Sports are entitled to mount.

Carra comes across as sensible enough, but he's in a weak field.

Keane is right most of the time, but aside from the fact that it's easy to criticise United since they're so blatantly disfunctional, Keane himself became a disciple of Martin O'Neill in his last few years in coaching. O'Neill's approach was so turgid, cowardly and riddled with bizarre tactical decisions that it's hard to take Keane seriously knowing he was assistant manager to that. Ultimately, I think he'd do no better than Solskjaer or Rangnick if put in charge of United. Although it might be funny seeing him try to shout Maguire into being a better footballer.

Struggling to think of a genuinely insightful ex footballer turned pundit, honestly.

This is the same Rio that demanded the league was scrapped when we where miles clear of the rest in our title winning season. He’s just a sound bite like most other pundits. Danny Murphy will critique LFC then back track and apologies as the fans get on his back. There all the same clueless sound bites that deserve no notice to be taken.

Carragher is a **** bag. Massive ego and thinks he's beyond retribution for his behaviour.

OP, Rio is just like every other pundit as in he talks absolute gosh and for a guy who is as wrong as many times like he is, I would ask him (and the so called “voice of the people” Gary Neville) to sometimes keep his “opinions” to himself BUT I know he won’t do we are now subjected to his brilliant analysis. Good grief!

Jk your point is good. Too bad they are pundits that are paid, so I expect a lot more. Otherwise, why not just get any of us here to sprout our red tinted nonsense and be given some money to help with the bills? Better still, give Ed 001 the job as he probably has something more meaningful to say than pre-prepared rants or talking points that must be regurgitated regardless

Footballer turned pundit that was good? Alan Hansen
Class player, a pundit who really changed how pundits work and added real value to analysis as he really knew the game

Cryuff wasn’t a pundit but in the little tv work he did, brilliant. There’s a clip that shows him talking about 433 and how it should be deployed without being out numbered at different parts of the field. He was so far ahead in his understanding that no one else in the studio got his point remotely and just said it didn’t make sense

Can’t think of any other than these 2 at the moment.

I'll never forget Ferdinand's celebration of Barcelona's third goal in the semi final first leg against us. Tosser.
And Lineker wasn't much better.
Then they have to start talking about the English clubs and how it's good for English football us doing well in the Champions League.
Hypocrites.

I'd say Glenn hoddle is an excellent pundit and an excellent guy to boot.

It's a disgrace that England got rid of him because of his religious beliefs when he was a Venables disciple.

Imagine the lefies of today would have been up in arms.

{Ed0666's Note - I agree.

Oddly enough, our current manager won a couple of awards during his stint as an expert summariser on German (I think) television.

{Ed0666's Note - He was manager at Mainz I think at the time and he was invited to do some studio punditry and was a revelation. I think when he leaves Liverpool and has a rest this will be the direction he goes in unless he takes the German national job.
