Great win today but although we had more of the ball Chelsea looked more likely to score.
We have now had 3 draws against them this season where imo they looked the better team.
Hoping we don't draw them either in CL or FA Cup as sooner or later we will probably get beaten.
Views anyone?

Anything can happen. With the current form, this team able to beat any team. That's what I think.

We missed Thiago and with him we would control that match better.

I wouldn't say they looked better but we certainly could have done better ourselves with and without the ball in the game. It also probably looks and feels that way due to the number of offsides.

We can definitely improve. That is pretty scary right?

Thought they had more clear chances but that overall control of game, until extra time, was more ours. We also missed done big chances and had a goal questionably ruled out (as did they) . It’s how it goes against the top teams, fine margins and a bit of luck, if we got them in the CL I’d expect similarly close games again.

For me, we struggled in midfield due to Thiago getting injured in the warmup which messed up our game plan going in and that lack of controlling midfield and Chelsea were able to take advantage of that early on so I don't think they were better due to their actual play. It was due to us having to get to grips with a new midfield and growing pains was what we saw, IMO.

Also, Chelsea are a defensive and counter attacking team and so with us committing players forward in an open style with a high line (cos that's how we play), Chelsea will always have chances due to their ability to soak up pressure and then break from deep. Both teams played to their strengths and we got a great game. Happy we were on the right end, for once.

Otts - what I saw was when we were attacking Chelsea always had a lot of bodies behind the ball, when they attacked us we had few bodies behind the ball, probably due to the way we play with such a high line. This meant they always looked dangerous, (which they were) .

The way the officials play the offside rule also added to this. Letting the play continue when a player is clearly offside is wrong in my opinion.

They did have a couple of clear cut chances with only the keeper to beat, but they blew them, just very poor finishing.

The way we play could very well mean we will slip up if we do get drawn against them in the other cups. I fact, we tend to offer up good chances to any team we play.

I thought both teams showed great strengths in how they play and it was a fantastic game of football to watch.

We are a world class team and Chelsea have demonstrated what a quality team they are as well Over the 300 minutes of football we’ve played them this season.

I thought Mount looked the part yesterday and his running from deep caused us all kinds of issues. Great to get our first domestic trophy yesterday in years and our squad strength will be tested to the max now this week as some of the lads played 120 mins yesterday and we have FA cup and then West Ham in the league in the next 6 days.

Was impressed with Diaz and thought taking both him and Mane off had a negative impact on our game. I thought mo was extremely disappointing yesterday ans anonymous. I understand why he was kept on, as he can create chances from nothing, but he was definitely having an off day.
Kudos to Elliot as well for stepping up and taking a pen.

We had no Thiago and jota whilst they had a fit squad. They had chances but we were starting to dominate until we made those triple subs and lost control of the midfield.

Chelsea will always be tough but we should feel confident enough to beat them if we come across them again.

I think it was the correct decision to take Diaz (what a player by the way) off he had been awesome but he went down holding his leg at one point which could have been cramp but also could have tweaked something if he stayed on . i agree when Mane and Diaz went off it slowed down but i think Fatigue came in to it . Kelleher was amazing.
Eliot i thought got caught out of position a few times but i think it was the excitement of the day. All in all i thought we played really good and brought the cup home. we go again YNWA.

I was afraid of heavy legs in extra time and due to the accumulation of games, it started to tell. It’s a miracle we were able to keep a high line as effectively as we did cos it could have been easy for a player to just give up due to heavy legs BUT our boys stick to it and stuck together and only gave up offside goals.

{Ed0666's Note - and don’t forget Trent’s double block from Lakaku & someone else at the end of 90 mins or could have been at the end of extra time. He prevented a certain goal. There were heroes all over the pitch yesterday and off the pitch also. For guys like Tsimikas & Ali to be so animated whilst not having played says so much about the kinship that has been cultivated at the Club.
