gerrard to villa good luck to him not sure it’s the right move but time will tell. Could be a great audition or a terrible one depending how he gets on!

{Ed025's Note - at least i will be able to get some sleep when he does his press conferences, good player but what a boring monotone person..

Really don't respect his decision to leave at this point in the season. Rangers would have probably won the league this season had he stayed. Now everything is thrown up in the air. He clearly doesn't care about their fans as much as he said he did.

Is he definitely going?

Why should he care about them? It's a job at the end of the day. Rafa called Chelsea fans plastics, called Everton a small club yet still went and worked for both. Words mean nothing.

{Ed0666's Note - There’s some stuff called integrity and professionalism that people should adhere to. If Klopp left us mid season would you be having the same opinion? Maybe? Maybe not?

Agree with both Ed 25 (about him being monotone! ) and ed666 about integrity, seems strange maybe he bottled a closer title campaign in the mighty Scottish league. Being a born and bred aberdonian I was keen to see him take rangers to pittodre guess that’s one game I won’t need to fork out for now! Personally I think he was a great player but I’m not impressed with what I’ve seen in Scotland with him but the English Gerrard fans think he’s amazing for winning the Scottish league in a one horse race. As I said this will prove to all if he can cut it with the big boys😀.

In his head, he clearly is thinking about succeeding Klopp in 2024. I don't think he will get it but, as a Liverpool legend, I have always wanted him to do well. However if he goes ahead with this move, I don't want him as Liverpool manager right after Klopp as it would show he still lacks maturity, patience and class, and also that he is primarily focused on what's best for himself. Lijnders, Ten Hag or Jesse Marsch if he does well at Leipzig are my preferred candidates at the moment.

If we follow Utd’s lead of employing a sub who scored in a CL final then sadly Stevie will miss out on Klopps job to Origi.

Gerrard was hard on the youth when he was coaching the LFC kids focused on results instead of development. Same could be said about his time at rangers agree even 2024 will be far to soon for him I doubt he would ever be ready to be LFC manager, I’ve never understood the thinking a great player makes a great coach there is very few examples of this. It’s more players who weren’t great make better coaches!

8.) 10 Nov 2021
10 Nov 2021 21:20:35
Just so I'm clear Babbity, you would not want Gerrard because he is leaving Rangers mid season but you would want Ten Hag, despite him leaving Utrecht for Ajax mid season, and you would want Marsch despite him leaving New York for Salzburg mid season?

9.) 10 Nov 2021
10 Nov 2021 21:31:22
Villa are an ambitious club with owners pouring money like water. They would want or get into Europe which he won’t and he would be sacked soon.

10.) 10 Nov 2021
10 Nov 2021 21:45:40
It's crazy how some fans mind function here 🙈🙈 he has nothing to gain in Scottish league neither 1 or 2 titles will make any difference.

He's contracted to Rangers if Rangers accept Villa bid then what "integrity" has to do here?

I will have utmost respect for him if he takes Villa job especially with the pressure and scrutiny will come with the job.

The guy just wants opportunities to test himself As much as he can, Didn't Rodgers throw all those records and trophies for Leicester job mid season?

It has nothing to do with LFC whatsoever LOL.

Thunderbird, I would be okay with it after some time. Everyone can learn and grow. But to me it demonstrates Gerrard has a long way to go before he becomes the kind of person we want as manager.

As for your two examples, they are completely different circumstances to Gerrard's. Rangers are in a title race at the moment and are currently narrowly ahead. His move risks blowing their chances as he is destabilising the team by leaving and taking his coaching staff with him. As Rangers had to climb their way back up through the divisions and had to watch their rivals Celtic win 9 leagues in a row, he knows how much the league means up there.

Ten Hag took Utrecht from 11th in the Eredvisie up to 4th and the European qualifiers. He took them as far as he could as a manager and was then offered the biggest job in the country. They were never going to win the league and at the same time he didn't leave them in danger of relegation.

Marsch moved from Red Bull club to Red Bull club. There is a transparent order of priority in the Red Bull group. Leipzig come first, then Salzburg then New York Red Bulls. If the RB hierarchy wanted him to move to Leipzig as an assistant, I doubt he had much say in the matter unless he wanted to quit his job entirely. In effect, his current employer was asking him to move so that isn't a very good example.

10 Nov 2021 22:01:57
Yeah Rodgers did do it which is usually an indicator NOT to do something. Rodgers has always been an ego who is out for himself. I doubt that will change at this point.

13.) 10 Nov 2021
10 Nov 2021 22:36:13
Celtic where on the down spiral when Rodgers left so fast and what’s he done with Leicester apart from bottle the top 4 last season? I can’t see stevie doing enough at villa to be LFC manager, if he’s going to “test himself” why villa why not a bigger club where the pressure would be a lot bigger?

14.) 10 Nov 2021
10 Nov 2021 22:40:58
There aren’t that many people working who are not looking out for themselves - I certainly am.

In general there is a lot of overthinking taking place at the moment on the site.

{Ed025's Note - its ok to discuss managers WDW and especially ones who have been touted as klopps replacement possibly, a lot of questions need to be asked about gerrard imo mate...like would he smile if he seen a chair walk.. :)

15.) 10 Nov 2021
10 Nov 2021 22:55:15
Yes Babitty Rabitty coz managers have EGO 😂😂.

16.) 10 Nov 2021
10 Nov 2021 22:52:06
There is no winning here for stevie other than doing what is best for him. He can stay loyal and stay at rangers for the rest of the season, win a second title and receive no praise for that outside the Ibrox.

or he can jump at an opportunity now. Villa are a fantastic fit for him imo. Young players as well as a solid core that he can mould into his own. On a selfish level for stevie, it is ideal opporutnity, perhaps not ideal timing. he has already done his job at rangers in getting them back to consistently competing at the top of that league.

{Ed0666's Note - I couldn’t disagree with you more.

It's all business really at the end of the day, villa should never have sacked the man they had, people and organisations usually act in their own interests, hope it works out for everyone 😊.

19.) 11 Nov 2021
11 Nov 2021 01:22:56
@Ed25 - I have no issue whatsoever with discussing managers (or any job really) . My point was 99.99% of people who work do so based on their own needs.

In this case one or two people seem to be suggesting that Gerrard is a uniquely selfish, self-centred character because he wants (or might want as he hasn’t been announced as the new manager yet) to further his career, which isn’t the case.

20.) 11 Nov 2021
11 Nov 2021 07:23:45
I can't believe this is really a topic. I mean how many managers AND players leave mis season and sign for another team? How many managers get sacked mid season. The reason there is a job at Villa is because the manager got the boot. Where is the integrity there? Premier League jobs won't come around too often and if Gerrard wants it he is entitled to go for it. Rangers and the fans will be gutted I'm sure but let's not try to make out things should be different just because it Gerrard. The man is wanting to prove himself at the best level, nothing wrong with that in my eyes.

21.) 11 Nov 2021
11 Nov 2021 07:44:27
If Gerrard wins s the Liverpool job then he has to prove himself in a stronger league. Villa is the perfect opportunity for him to do so. He either does well or fails but villa have the resources for him to progress. Instead of whining like little bitches about his integrity when not support a legend? Personally I don’t think he’ll be ready when klopp leaves but I wish him well all the same.

22.) 11 Nov 2021
11 Nov 2021 08:41:52
Ultimately he’s an employee like anyone else and entitled to look for work elsewhere if he feels it’s a better opportunity. I’m sure Rangers won’t be short of candidates for the post. It is a big risk for Gerrard as if it goes wrong, he effectively ruled himself out for the post he probably really wants.

All good min! Foos your doos?

24.) 11 Nov 2021
11 Nov 2021 09:10:07
Is Villa a good shout though?

I reckon Stevie G will be a great manager in time, but going to Villa now seems a risky move.

Won't do his currency much good if they get relegated.

Better to go to a Championship team and go up than a prem team and go down if you're trying to build a rep as a manager. Cynical world that it is.

25.) 11 Nov 2021
11 Nov 2021 13:54:22
Triple6- you think he should have stayed at rangers? Or villa is the wrong opportunity?

{Ed0666's Note - I think he should have shown some loyalty and stayed till end of season. He would of had his pick of jobs still and his reputation would still be intact with the Rangers fans. Maybe he thought working with Cecil would afore him some kind of added protection

26.) 11 Nov 2021
11 Nov 2021 16:20:04
{Ed025's Note - at least i will be able to get some sleep when he does his press conferences, good player but what a boring monotone person.

Gerrard could always make himself more interesting by taking a leaf out of calvert lewin's book and dressing up as a schoolgirl for a magazine cover.

{Ed025's Note - dont knock it until you have tried it mate.. :)

27.) 11 Nov 2021
11 Nov 2021 22:26:43
I’ve heard Gylfi has asked to room share with Calvert Lewin going forward.

28.) 12 Nov 2021
11 Nov 2021 17:03:14
And if Rangers had sacked him for whatever reason midseason 0666?Would the high and mighty be questioning the character of all the Rangers boards members? He's taken on a tough but exciting job, fair b$#ls to him.

{Ed0666's Note - You don’t get fired mid season if you’re doing well. Why tell the rangers supporters he’s staying four weeks ago if he wasn’t going to? Would you be praising klopps character for leaving a third of the way through the season if he took the Man United job?

29.) 12 Nov 2021
12 Nov 2021 07:06:25
fair enough. I think most people would question Klopp if he left mid-season for our bitter rivals, that would seem fair.

I agree it's not ideal timing. But other than that, I think it's a great opportunity to prove himself. big club in the midlands, solid core of youthful players and he probably feels himself that he needs something like this to test himself. That spine of McGinn, Mings, Watkins, Cash, and Martinez is a solid core to work with. and that's not even mentioning traore, Bailey and co.
I'm excited for him anyways.

JK23: 'I’ve heard Gylfi has asked to room share with Calvert Lewin going forward. ' genuine worldie of a reply that mate! haha.
