Been meaning to ask.
Ed, should we take anything from James Milner being at the Preston game on the squad bench. With him being out injured but still there, do you know why, was it a case off being supportive for the younger players as Lijnders said he has a great relationship with them and is usually the guy that's between players and staff for any issues that come up, or was maybe a case of him getting vital view into coaching as I can see him making a coaching role his own after his retirement.
I think he had all the characteristics to be a very good coach maybe even a manager one day.

{Ed001's Note - he always goes along to support, when he can. He has always gone along in previous seasons too, even when not in the squad.}

Miler was on the bench when the U23's played Shewsbury Town in the FA Cup in 19/ 20 when the first team was away at the World Club Cup in Qatar, as well.

I reckon Milly will make an excellent coach one day. He couldn't have had a better education in building a winning culture from scratch than the last 6 years with Jurgen and his backroom staff and his professionalism goes without saying. Will be interesting to see what he does and where he goes after retirement.

Linders said how much influence he has in the dressing room. He called him a second assistant manager in actual fact so I can see them already having had the conversation with him about moving into coaching at the club when the time comes.

Stuff like this really good to see, Milly is a true professional.
