I've been reading the posts about Mo Salah, his contract and his agent's efforts. I wonder if anyone has given any thought to the matter of how other players have fared after leaving Liverpool. The following spring to mind. Ian Rush, Michael Owen, Fernando Torres, Emre Can, Luis Suarez, Philippe Coutinho, Gini Wijnaldum and so on. All big names and all these departures were said to be 'the end. ' The truth was that their careers foundered quickly after joining other clubs. Big money must be good but playing regularly and playing well must count for something. Discuss please.

Don’t think we can include the rat Suarez in here. He didn’t really struggle did he lol.

I wouldn't say winning titles at other clubs is "floundering" and for a large part many of those departures did in the short term hurt, the problem was we became a stepping stone, it hurt our ambitions for success . Playing regularly is of course the goal as is testing yourself to see if you can replicate that at stronger clubs. Salah is currently an integral part of a successful club who imo should pay him the wages he deserves .

I've always been told, the grass might be greener, but it still needs mowing.
Sometimes a club suits a player and allows them to thrive. Moving club doesn't always work out. I think some players realise this and hopefully Mo is one of those.
I'd rather be a legend at one club and win less then just but another player else where. Truthfully, how many chelsea fans sing about Torres, even with what he won with them. If he had stayed with us, we would still sing about him now. I know if I had the choice between medals or being written in a clubs folk law, id always choose the latter.

Of course Salah leaving won’t be the end, but the next couple of seasons will be a lot more enjoyable if he’s still here.

But Suarez fell out of favour after a relatively short period and was moved on.

Suarez played for Barcelona for 7 seasons and only fell out of favour in his final season and then went to Atletico and won the title at 33 and scored 20+ league goals. In no way has he floundered since he left.

Suarez is an exception without doubt.
I would love Salah to stay but £0 of my own money will be contributed to that cause. Club has to take into account a whole bunch of requirements and needs before committing. Such is life when you are not owned by a country.
The world "ended" when Sterling left, when Torres left, when Suarez left and others.
We have found ways to prevail and will do so again.
There is only one mega star in this Liverpool squad and his name is Jurgen Klopp.

The world didn’t end when Sterling left, was happy to see the petulant little turd do one and he can stay away as far as I’m concerned.

It is however reasonable to point out that it took us until we signed Torres to adequately replace Owen and after Suarez left it took us until we signed Salah to adequately replace him. The sensible option is to sign him up and give him parity with the highest paid players in the league, as he’s that good.

Selling him isn’t going to achieve anywhere near enough to be able to bring in a suitable replacement, forget the likes of Mbappe/ Chiesa/ Haaland, economic climate/ age/ remaining contract length will see to that, by all accounts we’re seriously considering Dembele and Traore (Ed002 has intimated this on multiple occasions), and if you genuinely believe either of those are good enough to replace Salah, you need your head testing.

A player no matter how awesome he is, has never been the end of the world nor the end of any club. However if not adequately replaced and sometimes even if he is well replaced, the short term pain will always be there. How you navigate that period? Nobody knows until the actual time comes to pick up the pieces.

Jurgenator has made the most valid point in this thread. I will be nervous the most, the day Jurgen Klopp decides its time to move on. He is the glue that holds everything together.

Suarez's career flourished not floundered after leaving us, Salah has to be given his new deal or the owners need to be forced to sell up, what ambition does it show to get rid of the worlds best player, we continue to build round him to make us the best again.

Get rid?
Lancaster i started this thread and it was a vain attempt to try calm everyone down in case the worst actually happens. IF Salah decides the club are not offering enough and decides to take more money elsewhere that cannot be described as getting rid.
