Hi Ed001 and Ed002,

I was wondering what your take (& my fellow Reds) on FIFA's strange move and propagandising over a Biennial World Cup is. I don't know any fans that want this even though they say a majority of fans are in favour. In my opinion, the smaller footballing nations and perhaps those without strong domestic leagues want it but it would surely represent a nail in the coffin of FIFA's control. Players cannot keep playing such extensive competitive tournaments at the current rate let alone a more substantial one. What do you guys think?

{Ed001's Note - surely it would increase their control and take it away from club football as the only way it could work would be if they did the same as cricket and took international players away from the club game?}

FIFA seem to forget who pay the wages.

{Ed001's Note - they do make their own money and don't they cover wages while players are at the World Cup?}

You might be right Ed001 mate but I think it would rush the introduction of an independent International league. The insurance they offer to teams is insufficient for player loss and unlike cricket, the owners of football clubs have a lot more financial clout. there will come a point where the primary employers of the players will say "This is too much! " At least that's what I think.

{Ed001's Note - if they were running a World Cup more often, which is their primary source of income, they would pay a lot more though. In essence that is what this is about - making more money.}

How do you manage all the qualification matches, every two years, which are already a serious strain on club and league schedules, every four years?

There are serious "push and pulls" by both federations and the clubs in all kinds of directions. I don't see how the game can stay the same for long.
