Hi Ed001,

Signing Alisson was the most crucial signing we made in recent years (yes Fabs and VVD were too but in my eyes you can't win anything with a crap keeper) .

My question is, would we have signed him if Karius didn't have a howler in the 2018 CL final? Or were we always planning to bring a keeper in?

Thanks.

{Ed001's Note - neither actually. Klopp was initially going to stand by Karius but he acted the complete arse in pre-season and so we jumped in and grabbed Alisson quick. If Karius had knuckled down like he had promised, then Alisson would probably have ended up elsewhere, scarily. Luckily Karius was a knob and was too busy arsing about with his LK1 bollox and blew his chances.}

I don’t, in which case, begrudge Karius a penny of his salary and transfer fee. If he wasn’t a dick we wouldn’t have our most lethal header of the ball! 😂.

Thanks for the response Ed001. I’ll always now recognise the heroics of Karius’ actions in being a dick that allowed us to sign the best keeper in the world.

{Ed001's Note - very welcome, it was a noble sacrifice on his part...}

I had no idea that karius was a knob. Can I ask what LK1 is?

{Ed001's Note - LK1 was his attempt at being a brand similar to CR7.}

I think it's fine to give Karius the plaudits for his own downfall but if I remember right, Alisson wasn't JK's first choice. Wasn't Jan Oblak his number one target? If Atlético hadn't put him out of our price range (£89m release clause) then we'd never have bought Ali.

To be honest, Reynard, I wouldn't have been upset about Oblak either. Him and Alisson are the top 2 GKs in world football at the moment, in my opinion (Ederson is probably close behind too! ) .

I don't believe, albeit happy to have other views, that signing Oblak would've affected (negatively) our results in the subsequent years.

'LK1' is therefore to be lauded for encouraging Klopp to sign a top quality GK.

I wonder what the brand LK1 would sell? Hair bobbles? Tissues? Dartboards with Benzema on them?

Oblak always seems the part but I think Ederson is some way short and way below Alisson.

Maybe I have red tinted specks but the Citeh keeper seems to have far more mistakes in his play.

I have a feeling that all is not well at the Etihad.

It might be down to a two horse race between us and another side come the Spring.

From the outside looking in that’s what it always seemed like to me Ed001, confirmation of that doesn’t surprise me. The lack of humility really was shocking. You’d think after that you’d be spending less time on social media, not more! The guy seemed to either be constantly on holiday or promoting himself in an influencer-like fashion. Can’t imagine what the rest of the squad must have thought of him.

{Ed001's Note - that was exactly the problem, instead of training he was off on holiday shooting social media videos for LK1. Utter moron.}

That explains a lot Ed.

I believe Jack Butland was lined up to be our goalkeeper signing that year as cover/ rotation for Karius.
I know the lad was gutted when it didn’t happen.

I always wondered how that changed so quickly into buying Alisson.

Pivotal moment or what!?

{Ed001's Note - very much so.}
