Hi. With all these English players supposedly up for sale, neco, ox, Nat. Will this not leave us short for home grown quota?

Neco is Welsh.

{Ed002's Note - That it’s of no relevance.}

IIRC, the Home Grown spots are not mandatory, instead we are only allowed (I think, Ed002 will correct me! ) 17 non-HG players in the EPL squad of 25.

The remaining 8 places can only be home grown, and we can use as many U21s as we want.

We will still have: Trent, Hendo, Joe, Caoimhin and Milly - 5. We also had Joe Hardy last half season - 6.

Of the rest, we currently have the following that appear to be on the list for sale: Ox, Neco, Ben Davies (if he does indeed exist! ), Nat.

If we do end up selling all of them, and we end up keeping the ones on the first list, then we will have a squad of 23 senior players plus U21s. Howeverfrom our U21s we have at least 2 players - Jones and Elliot - that most people would see as part of our best-25 squad anyway.

I don't think its as much of a problem as people think (if I have understood it correctly) as it is not MANDATORY to have 8 HG players.

Spot on Zeddicus. Only correction is that Hardy was released a few weeks ago as his contract expired.

It seems pointless to have players in your squad if you're not going to play them ie the under 23s. If they're ready to make the step up then great but to put them on the squad list when they're not ready then no. Caomine, Trent, Gomez, hendo, milly and Elliot are definites assuming we're selling neco, Nat, Davies and Ox.

I just find it amusing 2 days after I said Nico wasn’t good enough and got slated, Klopp appears to feel the same.
God damn Jurgan and that Fifa generation never give youngsters time, he wants to try supporting the lad instead of bashing him 😂.

You may be right on the PL spots, I believe it gets a little more complex for champions league spots as 4 out of the 8 home grown also need to be club trained. I don’t know if Joe or Nat are club trained but from the rest most aren’t.

Klopping, yep the club trained angle does complicate things. I'm sure I remember Ed002 saying that Gomez doesn't qualify as club trained as he joined just too late to meet the (I think) 3 years before 21 criteria.

So I think, out of the players listed above, only Caoimhin and TAA would be club trained.

However, as with the EPL squad, we have a number of U21s who could supplement the squad, so even with only 17 non-British players, 2 club trained and 3 other HG, we still have a big enough squad, being supplemented by U21s like Elliot, Jones, Bradley (if Neco leaves) etc.

LiverpoolFC08, it is not as cut and dry as you think. We don't know if Neco is good enuff long term cos he is still learning the game at the highest level. Also, Klopp may think he is good enuff (after all, he game him his shot) and played okay for the most part. However, we may need to sell to generate funds for new signings cos those "shiny new toys" many keep banging on that they want won't fund themselves. Same applies to Nat Phillips. Both things can be correct at the same time.
