Lot of opinions on nat Phillips going about.
Here’s my thoughts:

We should keep him and let him be 4th choice next season. My reason being, he’s not put a foot wrong when he’s played. He’s a good old fashioned defender and I feel like every team needs someone like him. He’s played alongside a number of different people at the back so hasn’t been able to build a relationship fully with anybody.
If he were given an opportunity to partner VVD for say 10 games in a row, the likelihood is, he’d look very very good.
And I personally think he’s done very well so far. He might not have the same level of technical ability but he certainly has the effort levels required to be a Liverpool player. I’ve seen enough improvements on his on ball ability to suggest he’ll make further improvements.

For me VVD, Konate, Gomez, Phillips and Matip should be our CB’s next season. The likelihood is Matip will be injured frequently. Gomez for me is unlikely to return to the levels he’s played at for a while, same with VVD and I’m hopeful Konate (provided he does sign) can settle quickly and won’t have loads of small injuries. Think Phillips deserves a chance and I think he’ll get that chance.

Agree with all of that except i still don’t see the point in paying 100k a week for Matip to be on the treatment table every match day. I know van Dijk, Gomez and Konate may all have questions over their fitness this season but i’d still rather just have the four centre backs than be relying on someone we already know is never fit. We need a fresh squad and a clean break from those who cannot be relied upon for whatever reason.

{Ed0666's Note - I agree. Matip is made of candy floss and needs moving on. But who in their right mind is gonna pay those incredibly high wages for someone whose super injury prone.

Other side of that AW is Nat has now had a taste of being a regular in the 1st team. Will he be happy only playing cup games and the odd league appearance? I'd be delighted if he was happy to stay, but wouldn't blame him if he left to guarantee himself 1st team football.

I'll keep Davies as 5th option and loan Rhys anything else I agree with.

I am pretty sure Phillips has said he’d love to have the chance to stick around and fight for a chance, I think he said he’d rather have the chance to play for a top side than not, he’s accepted he’s not first choice and isn’t as good technique wise as others, but it is clear he possesses qualities that are valuable in games against the less sophisticated opponents.

Oh Mane Mane - totally agree with you there bud. Nat has proven to be a slid and reliable PL defender, and there would be a number of clubs who I feel would be interested in him. Next season if VVD / Gomez and maybe Konate around and hopefully back to their old levels, Nat would have very limited game time.

He's at an age now where he needs to play every week, and I am sure will want to do so.
