I'm not sure if many people understand the damage the ESL does to the prep yet, so a couple of scenarios.

The Elite 6 finish top 6 in Prem, meaning suddenly teams are satisfied finishing just 7th-11th for those 4 champs league spots.

An Elite team is comfortably ahead in 1st by Christmas, other 5 elite teams have no incentive for finishing top 4 and so give up for rest of the season and focus on other competitions.

The ESL isn't just an alternative to the champs league and impacts the midweek games we watch, it fundamentally changes the way we watch the Prem every weekend for every single team.

It is a closed shop and anti competition.

The eds have been warning of this day for a few years now. I so hope the club changes it’s stance. If this super duper league happens, I will most likely stop following football. So much for the spirit of shankly and you’ll never walk alone, tragic day for football.

{Ed0666's Note - I can seriously reccomend taking up squash to fill the void soccer will leave in youre life.

Actually Vermiculo, a court might see that differently. If UEFA were challenged in court for stopping teams entering into another competition, that might be seen as anti competition, see the Judgement in the International Skating Union case, where the court found against them for penalising skaters for taking part in other skating competitions. All they can do is enforce a pre-authorisation of the rules of the competition to ensure it meets the general rules of the game, not prevent athletes (and therefore teams) participating. This could become very lucrative for the lawyers.

This is assuming that these 6 teams don't get booted pit of the Prem. If they're not the they are still incentivised financially to finish as high up the table as they can.
