Hi eds,

Would there be any positives in joining a breakaway league?

{Ed002's Note - Yes. There would be higher quality matches, more income for the club, the opportunities for supporters to visit other cities more often ... it would be a new paradigm.}

I think the last 13 months has shown us how important atmosphere and fans are to football. Places like Palace and Sheff Utd away where the place does be hopping. These games between "superpowers"wont replicate that, and half of them will end up like the lifeless pre-season friendlies we see in pre-season. Not 2 mention that basically zero fans actually want this. I find it hard enuf trying to get over to Liverpool to watch us, i've no interest in trying to get over to Turin or Barcelona to do it.

With the greatest of respect Ed2, it’s a stretch to suggest that one of the benefits is the opportunity for fans to visit other cities more often, unless there is going to be subsidised travel. C.V. permitting, we’re all free to go wherever we want to anyway.

{Ed002's Note - Why would there be subsidised travel? Right now the fans would perhaps not visit somewhere like Milan - this will give them a reason to.}

No a fan of the idea myself.
I also think FIFA and specially UEFA will do their utmost to stop it by banning players from internationals or something like that, though you will see a hell of a lot of players following the $$$$$ regardless.
They will likely suck up all the TV money meaning a lot of small clubs around Europe going out of business.

{Ed002's Note - I have explained the ramifications but you seem to be dealing with this like it is so-me thing new and agreed. The reality is that change and progression will come and common sense is that a solution needs to be found that is the best for those concerned.}

I could be wrong, probably am, but it seems to me that over the years the regular blue collar fan has been priced out of going to premier league matches. With this new format, only the very wealthy will be able to afford to go to the matches. I hate the idea. I'm all for progress, but there has to be a better way. Maybe guarantee Champions League for clubs who have won 5 or more, I don't know. But I understand Ed's point about it giving fans more opportunities to visit other cities to support their clubs, but again, there has to be a better way.

Gary Neville just gets better. Hated him as a player best pundit by a country mile. Your view point Ed2 is embarrassing.

{Ed002's Note - I am not sure why you think my view is embarrassing but am happy to delete all further posts on the subject on the Liverpool page.}

Plus it would get rid of the incompetent refs we have and help destroy the corrupt fifa and uefa.

Ed002
Please don't do that. Your opinion and knowledge are top class. Some need to understand its an opinion in which all are entitled to have

Matt in FL.

{Ed002's Note - Seemingly not Matt. You can go to some other club pages and the European pages where I will answer questions on the subject. It is easier to simply delete questions about it here rather than further embarrass myself.}

So many questions Ed002 and I don’t know where to start!

Do you think that the clubs who have put their names ho this have done it to give themselves more leverage in putting forward their own demands for reform to UEFA and their respective domestic leagues?

What sort of timescale would there be for this to happen?

Do you think the clubs involved may face sanctions from FIFA, UEFA and their domestic associations?

Do you think there’s any reason that Man City were not included in this?

Most importantly, what’s your opinion on this?

{Ed002's Note - I am afraid I am an embarrassment so I am deleting the questions on the Liverpool page - but you can ask on the Manchester United, Chelsea or European pages.}

I loath the idea to be honest.
I love a big game against the likes of Barcelona but that’s because it’s a special occasion that doesn’t happen all that often, playing all the time against these big sides would be a novelty that would soon wear off.
Plus we all love football but we love the banter between fans just as much, if not more, nothing better than ripping the Everton fans at work or the one who randomly supports West Ham or something. Don’t think I can have banter with any PSG fans in work.
Sounds completely soulless and nothing more than money men chasing a quick buck and not thinking about what makes the game special in the first place.

Gary Neville: Complains about a European Super League being all about money and exploiting the common football fan.

Also Gary Neville: Works for Sky. How do Sky fund their Premier League coverage again? I've forgotten, someone remind me.

A really strong statement from the Premier League on the selfishness of a breakaway league that is based on making more money.

And the Premier League should know, being a breakaway league that was based on making more money.

Ed002, you’ve not embarrassed yourself here mate. You have been saying this was coming for ages, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise when it did. Thank you for all you do round here!

{Ed002's Note - I have had a lot of abuse over this.}

Sorry to hear that Ed002, absolutely bang out of order. I think people need to remember that you should never ever shoot the messenger.

Some people clearly struggle with having their reality shattered.

Personally, I don't really want a closed shop Champions League or a breakaway European Super League, but why give Ed002 crap for it? He's been telling us this has been on the cards for years.

Ed002 I don’t get the abuse you getting for pointing out facts but even if they are just your opinions the abuse is out of order we are all entitled to our own opinions. I don’t get the problem about the super league how many times have teams outside the big 6 got into the champions league since it started nearly 30 years ago I can just think of Everton once and Leicester once. So it’s nothing new any way just more teams in it. And am sure the premier league would benefit as well with the top side earning more money bringing better players in and that would help better tv deals in the long run.

{Ed002's Note - Thanks - but the Premier League would take legal action to kick the clubs out.}
