I will not be supporting Liverpool if this European Super League goes ahead. Pure greed by everyone involved in these ‘talks’.

It’s absolutely disgusting that these ideas are even being considered. Money talks though I suppose.

I love Liverpool football club, but they’re selling their soul mate f they go ahead with this. Absolutely disgusted by these rumours.

The big question is. Surely your interest in football wouldn't die.

Who would you move your allegiences to?

Let’s all get behind Everton lads.

Id still be very much in love with football and I’d still want Liverpool to do well and be successful. But for the club to choose money over fans, which for me this is doing just that. It’s despicable.

In terms of who I’d support I’d probably go with Leeds as my dad grew up there and supports them.

Would I stop supporting LFC nope!
I’d like to see the plans of a super league before I say I’m for or against!

Put it this way I’d rather watch Utd v Barcelona on MNF
Then Burnley v villa!

I'd support Liverpool if they got relegated to League 2, so i have no problem supporting them in a Super League. I really hope it doesn't happen but if you're asking me if i can turn off 17 years of love like it's a light switch, of course i can't. You'll Never Walk Alone still means something whether it's being sang at Burnley away or AC Milan away. I guess it'd be like the MLS in America. Basically franchise sport spread across Europe rather than across the United States. Plenty of fans over in the MLS love it and don't care that the average away game requires a flight to attend. It is what it is at the end of the day and in my opinion if you can honestly say you'd stop supporting Liverpool, you're not a passionate supporter anyway. But i don't believe you would stop, Moreton. I think you're just hurting at the fact that Liverpool would essentially be turning away from the notion that football is a working class sport. I fully get that. It annoys me too. But i also know that when Liverpool line-up to face Barcelona in a title decider you'll scream your heart out regardless just like i will.

{Ed002's Note - There is no suggestion of franchises at all.}

You’ll Never Walk Alone means nothing if they sell their souls for money.
Of course it’s great seeing the best v the best.
But if it means no more champions league, no more premier league. Then I’m sorry but I can’t support it, certainly not with the same passion.

It’s a load of crap, M. K. I didn’t sign up for this and I won’t be. It’s the end of the club as we know it if this goes ahead.

8.) 18 Apr 2021
18 Apr 2021 18:47:01
I probably am overreacting to all of this. I just don’t agree with the concept of it. It would hurt massively to not be able to compete in the premier league and champions league.

I would still support Liverpool, I love the club.

There has been an apperent statement released by UEFA intimating that if a club were to join a break away league they would ensure they are banned from all other club level football, including domestic leagues and cups. Now I did not think UEFA had durestiction over domestic competitions as I believed that to be down to individual countries national associations.

Have folks on here only just woke up to greed in football?!
Wether this idea is good or bad, do remember that we are CURRENTLY in a world where Halaand will likely earn as much as a small country per week and the next wc will be played based on who paid the most.
Football has been a money most business (all money perhaps even) for a very long time now.

It's a 'breakaway league' but their proposal appears to be a replacement for the champions league rather than going to play the likes of Barcelona week in week out. Their main aim is to cordon off the champions league revenue without their league form effecting their participation. I. e have a terrible league season like ours but know come what may you'd still be in the big competition.

As much as we all hate it money is entwined in football and clubs and owners will do all possible to ring fence and limit their their risks on investment.

It's not in the spirit of earning your place at the top table but this proposal is designed to put pressure on UEFA and put x amount teams in yearly as guaranteed spots rather then it ending in a breakaway in my opinion.

Bit of a bold claim MK. Don’t think this is a barometer for who’s the biggest fan mate. Think it’s as you said later on fans being disillusioned with what their club has become.

I for one would never support with the same passion. I'd probably have a passing interest in their results but nothing like the way i am now. i'd still hope they win, but it would be more because my son idolises them and he talks bout them all day.

It's a difficult position to be . coz if it happens and LFC aren't part of it then it will be end of our club being a top/ elite club, it's sad if it happens but we have to move on with times can't be left behind : (.

Bledd, a wise man once said to me that with all things in life that stress you, ask yourself 2 questions.
1. Does it affect you?
2. Can you do anything about it?

If the answer to both is yes, shut up and do it. If the answer to either is no, just take it your stride or ignore it.

I'm not going to cry over something i can't change. People may think they have some control over this because they can boycott the club. But ultimately there are more Liverpool fans in India than in England so do you really think a few thousand English fans have a say? Because the fans all over the world who can only watch on TV anyway won't care at all. People will say they are cancelling their season ticket but there is a massive waiting list so that won't make a difference either. You can't stop this because money is all that matters in today's world and with the likes of Liverpool and Man Utd's value hitting something of a plateau this is the next step for the owners to make even more money. We signed up to this when we all started paying whatever Sky and BT asked. We signed up for it when we demanded the club paid huge wages and transfer fees. It was never sustainable in the current format. Somebody else already alluded to it above, but soon their will be players like Haaland and Mbappe on £1m a week. Where do people think that money is going to come from?

What will be will be. Ed002 gave us a heads up on this circa 10 years ago and said the clubs were targeting 2024 (paraphrasing and I think the year changed a few times) so i've already made peace with it to be honest. The only people with actual power to stop this are the players. If they say they're not playing in a breakaway league it's done. How many do you think will say that though when we all know 99% of them only care about lining their pockets?

17.) 18 Apr 2021
18 Apr 2021 19:45:09
I’m not disagreeing with that MK but people are more than within their rights to air their frustrations and anger without having their loyalty questioned. It’s a tad simplistic to just say shut up and deal with it because as we’ve seen in the past the power of fans can sometimes make a difference.

Working class sport? It stopped being that years ago. I've lost a huge amount of interest in football compared to what I used to be like. Its run by greedy people and played by greedy people. I love Liverpool but there are much more important things happening in my life right now and the lifes of others I'm sure. It's slowly being ruined by money and VAR. I don't think supporters will have any say over this sort of thing and will end up paying even more to watch a game of football. Sad thing is it will only get worse I reckon. The games gone really and its now only for the rich and greedy.

18 Apr 2021 20:10:47
Bledd, if you think the fans have power though, then do what you think will make a difference. As somebody who lives so far away i've attended about 5 games in my life, i can't change a damn thing so it's not worth my energy letting it bother me. Maybe if enough fans bought up the tickets but didn't attend there is a slim chance of making a difference. But most won't care enough to waste their money.

20.) 18 Apr 2021

I can't supprt this at all. Pure greed in my opinion. YNWA will mean nothing.

21.) 18 Apr 2021
18 Apr 2021 20:43:37
MK I think you’re missing my point a bit mate. I’m not trying to arrange anything to stop this from happening. I’m merely saying I can understand people airing their grievances and won’t look down on them for not being “passionate supporters”- whatever that means- if it makes them think twice about following the club.

Off the top of my head just with our club we’ve seen our owners backtrack on raising ticket prices and that project Bigfoot or whatever it was because of displeasure from fans. Who knows what could happen.

22.) 18 Apr 2021
18 Apr 2021 21:21:12
I think it’s a difficult one. If it goes ahead and Liverpool aren’t involved I’d be disappointed and feel like we’re missing out. If it goes ahead and we are involved I’d still be disappointed because football as we know it will be gone.
I’d still support Liverpool but either way my interest in the game will be depleted. Only time will tell if this means I stop bothering or if I do get into it and my passion return.
I just don’t see me getting excited about playing teams from other countries every week. I mean, who cares? Only fans of the other 6 ‘elite’ clubs perhaps?
At the moment I think I’d stop being so invested and just check results from afar occasionally and be happy that the team I used to follow religiously is doing well.
Kind of like a jilted lover who’s happy my ex has moved on and is happy.

{Ed002's Note - These are not the “elite” clubs - they are meeting later in the week.}
