Ed001, what are your thoughts on Danny Ward? He seemed to be a decent young keeper, solid back up, and (maybe? ) club developed. I thought he left Liverpool to get first team football, with rumours of Schmeichel leaving Leicester at that time, but first team football never materialised for him. He just signed a new contract at Leicester, so presumably he's decided that he's happy to be a backup keeper after all — unless he's earmarked to be Schmeichel's long term successor? It all seems rather strange to me.

{Ed001's Note - Schmeichel was all set to leave when he arrived, so you are right it is strange he stayed even so when it became clear Schmeichel was not going to leave. Clearly he is settled there. He always looked a good solid keeper with good feet. I really don't know why he never moved on to get first team but I doubt he will get a good opportunity to do so now.} Become a Patron!

If he had stayed. He would have played more than he has. I doubt we would have signed Adrian if we still had Ward so he would have played a fair few games last season.

Thanks for the reply. Backup goalkeeper must be one of the strangest roles in sport. It looks like Ward has played 13 games in 4 years. But if you're well paid, your family is settled and you enjoy the training sessions, maybe that's good enough for some people.

If it’s wrong I apologise to the lad, but there was a lot of talk flying around before he left us that he enjoyed the drink too much.

Having seen him play live for Wales, he certainly does seem to carry some extra timber, but then I suppose GK’s can get away with that more than others.
