Good review, thanks. Fully agree we must find a way to rest Robbo asap. For me Firmino should play deeper that has been evident for some time now imo. The only thing I don't agree on is Thiago for me he was still our least effective player yesterday, he is starting to pass it side to side and ofter behind players or to feet not for them to run on to.

Would Thiago get in your team to play Madrid?

{Ed001's Note - I don't know what you watch sometimes mark, Thiago walks into the team every time.}

Good read Ed001 you been up early for the Easter bunny?
The Allison summary made me laugh fair play. On Trent I really hope he doesn’t go to the euros and the same for Vvd both from a totally selfish viewpoint. Agree on Robbo and if he does have a rest interesting to see if Klopp puts Milner there or the new lad (sorry can’t spell his name) . Great point on the Gabriel situation. Just out of curiosity who’s job is it to cypher through recordings to identify such things. Is this a thing Klopp does or is there a designated coach / video analysist that does it or do all the coaches and manager do it together?

{Ed001's Note - they have an analysis department to look into these things. There are some analysts to look at our performances, some to look at opposition.}

Great review Ed man!
Personally not fussed if Southgate wants to take James, Trippier or whoever this summer instead of TAA. If he thinks there is anyone there better than TAA at right back I can only smile and be happy at him getting a whole summer of rest before our "comeback tour" next year.

Thiago has been playing like Lilly Allen this season never mind Joe Allen 😊.

Thought Thiago was excellent alongside Fabinho yesterday. Thiago is one of the best I. The world at what he does. Let’s not forget he had no pre-season, got C.V., got injured and played in a much weakened team when he came back in. I think he fires us to European glory if we keep our players fit.

Let’s hope so Champs. I prefer the full throttle football that won us trophies.

Ed001, could u see Bobby being moved into the No.10/ creative midfielder role going forward? I think him picking the locks in the midfield and having 2-3 players as runners to pass to would be the best use of his abilities as it stands. Just means we will need to go and splurge on a first choice/ top notch attacker this summer if Bobby was to play in midfield.

{Ed001's Note - yes mate I can. It was done a few times last season.}

I think if Klopp was going to plan a formation to make room for an AM then he would have done it by now. Yes on occasion and to adjust in a match. But I just don't see Bobby playing an AM role unless he converts his game into a more box to box CM.

Good point about the midfield press Ed001.
I was worried pre-match about the possible lack of mobility in our midfield, but Klopp had them more compact and not so stretched.
Great spot on Gabriel too.
Good debate below on the CB situation this season, I don’t think Phillips was and is the answer.
There’s aspects of his game we love (causing Lacazette to squeal, for one) but he’s just too limited for me.
Better, quicker footballers that can cover FB if necessary.
It’ll all work itself out in Summer though, whatever we think now.
Arsenal were absolutely terrible. The bizarre thing is there’s only a handful of points between the two teams in the league.
Partey is a good player though, I really like him.

Thiago walks exactly ha. Instead of who? Fabs and Gini will play so only one place left. Hendo would normally play but of course is not fit, so the options are Jones, Firmino or Thiago I can’t see on what planet Thiago walks in the team on current form. You must be picking him on last years form?

{Ed001's Note - no I just obviously see a different game from you because he is light years ahead of Gini.}

Have to agree with you Ed001 about Bobby.

Play him in a deeper role, his link up play is excellent, he has all the tools to be a creator in the middle. And knows how to win the ball back.

If Bobby drops into midfield then that only leaves 2 midfield places for Hendo, Thiago, Fab, Wiji, Milner, Jones, Kieta and Ox. Plus when fans also get their wish of moving Trent into midfield as well there will only be 1 place left 😜.

I suppose it could be possible Firmino turns into a bit of a versatile squad player in these next few years Ed001. He can play anywhere up front, wing or attacking midfield. A bit like an attacking version of what we have with Milner now. He could possibly play for a good few more years as well as I don’t think he is particularly reliant on his pace either.
Really positive to see Jota hitting the ground running again as well, nice to see someone who just knows where the net is and has the confidence to just take the shot when it’s on rather than mess about with it.

Firmino was good yesterday in the deeper role. I think the front 4 should be given game time especially when Hendo is alongside Fabs. It is not me picking Gini but we can be 100% confident that Klopp will play Gini on Tuesday. At this rate Jones will not get a look in.

Mark. clueless at times. Thiago is class and would rather him than Gini in a starting line-up.

Thanks for the review ED001. Great review as per usual.

Good to see Kabak and Phillip's partnership growing. I think Klopp will be having a lot of regrets this season about not having faith in Phillip's sooner. Regarding Kabak, It looked at first as though he could be out of his depth but I am really pleased his performances have improved. The team now looks more balanced and settled which has contributed to his improved performances IMO. Hopefully the performance can give them the foundation to go on a run. I am abit concerned regarding Mane. He has scored the odd goal but still lacks the belief. Other than finishing, his overall plan his still decent along with his effort level (which has never been a concern) . I think the highlight was how strong he was in his hold up play and turning into space. Arsenal just couldn't deal with him.

{Ed001's Note - welcome mate.}

Mark.
Balls into feet. Yes the football was into the attackers feet.
2 points on that. Firstly that a midfielder playing the ball forward. Secondly, if the forwards are making the runs for him, he’s going to pass into feet.

J6, I never said Gini over Thiago. But Klopp will 100% play Gini and Fabs will play so the choice is not Gini or Thiago the choice is Thiago or Jones or Firmino and for me Thiago doesn't get in on this years form he has been part of our problems. Now when Hendo and Fabs are in with VVD it could well be a different story. Thiago for me is best of the bench for the 30 minutes atm when he can control the game.

04 Apr 2021 22:06:32
Mark, you have had it in for Thiago for months now and 18 months before that, it was Bobbie so sorry, I do not take your opinion on either player seriously anymore. And how do you think Klopp will play Gini 100%? Did he tell you that?

Thiago is way better than Gini in the role Thiago plays even tho Gini is a beast technically. Did you watch him last night making incisive passes last night? It will all depend on the tactics and the strategy in place for the game. Speaking in absolutes does not make your argument stronger. On the contrary.

Oh and one last thing, full throttle football did NOT win us trophies. We stopped playing that way since Kiev cos it got us knackered physically and could not finish games.

Thiago has been a liability this season so far and yes Firmino has been below par for nearly 3 seasons. It’s only now people are starting to see it because others players are not carrying him, as Ed calls him the passenger . I repeat for the 3rd time who said Gini is better than Thiago, certainly not me. But Klopp will play Gini 100% that is why he rested him. It’s a certainty that Gini will play.
Thiago can’t protect the defence and he offers very little going forward he is much more suited to Man City at the moment.
I repeat myself next season with a full team he can be a great asset but atm not for me. He’s been truly awful this season.
