Cards on the table ed001 and 2, is there any chance of Liverpool signing Mappe? I don’t imagine the transfer fee would be the issue if one of the front three were sold to finance the move, but surely wages are an issue that can’t square the circle without disrupting the current wage structure and upsetting others who may feel like they should be paid more?

{Ed002's Note - I would not have though so and do you have any idea what the costs would be?}

As much as I love Mbappe and especially Haaland we won’t be signing either. Ed2, not sure if this is the right page but it is linked to both players. You have mentioned Real Madrid have plans to sign Mbappe and Haaland over the next year or so. Do you think it’s possible for them to do both in this summer window?

{Ed002's Note - No, they are not looking to do that.}

Could you give us a ballpark figure ed002?

Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - Perhaps £150M to buy him, £50M in fees and more that £600k per week.}

We can only imagine Ed, massive no doubt. But if a club bought Mbappe for £200m say and paid him £75m in wages. That club would get the money back in sponsorship and the sale of the player 3 years down the line. Mbappe would take Liverpool up another level. Does the Nike deal and having Lebron on the team give us a chance?

{Ed002's Note - No, it doesn't work like that.}

What would the costs be ed? Just out of pure interest? Is there a way the deal can be financed that could work? Have zero idea about how the costs work. If we can get someone like that it would be amazing. Unfortunately can't see it happening.

{Ed002's Note - Huge.}

Mbappe sorry! And no. I have no idea how much such a move would cost. That’s exactly why I’m asking the question. If you can’t help then don’t worry about it.

It’s all well and good him allegedly telling his friends he’d really wants to move to Liverpool, but if you really wanted to make the move you’d take the pay cut. He won’t, so he doesn’t want it. I don’t know what Paris are paying him but the find it a bit weird that players who claim to care about their clubs also won’t play for them unless they get paid enough to bankrupt a small country, players like Messi who stand around pointing fingers at other people when the club ends up in a dire state.

{Ed002's Note - PSG will offer him €750k per week to extend for 2 years.}

Absolutely insane that Ed002. If we were to even pay him a third of that it would completely obliterate the wage structure and make a lot of our players very unhappy. It just wouldn’t be what we are about.

Those numbers Ed002 are frightening.

The problem with breaking your wage structure for someone even of the talent of Mbappe is the likely costs that are going to come in from other players demanding higher wages.
City who I believe have the richest owners in football? Or very close have kept to some sort of wage structure and it seems even they are going to pass on Mbappe and Haaland. If one of those went to City on say 600k a week, you will get half the squad knocking on the door wanting an increase and the likes of KDB wanting to be aligned with them and rightly so.

{Ed077's Note - plus you need to factor in future contract extension for the player too. Say you sign an early 20s Haaland or Mbappe on 600k for 4 or 5yrs max. After around 2.5/3 yrs you will have to either sell them or give them a new deal to protect the players market value. How much more will they then command?
