Fairly sure it's been mentioned on here that one reason Nat Phillips wasn't fancied by Klopp was his ball playing abilities.
Call me blind, but I think he's been pretty good on the ball. His forward passes have been better than Robbo's lately and although the odd long ball doesn't hit the mark, he's looked our best defender since Joe got injured.
Add to that his determination and willingness to go for every header and I think we've got a very capable home grown back up CB there.

Brilliant to see Fabinho in midfield again, but a huge shout out has to go to Philips who did a fantastic job at CB, and who tackled, headed and cleared away numerous dangerous looking attacks. He’s not the prettiest footballer but he’s very very aggressive and effective, and he’s getting better at reading the game every week, which is what you really need in a CB. Alissons early diving save was also crucial, we could have been a nervous wreck had they scored early.

Good to be back on the scoreboard and hope we can continue the momentum into the PL.

Ever since he got his first opportunity against West Ham you could see he was desperate to grab his chance with both hands.

He sure isn't the most technical player but he absolutely puts it all on the line and it's great to see a lad fighting like his Liverpool career depends on it.

Also pretty refreshing in my opinion to see a CB just get rid when he feels he is under pressure, i know playing out from the back is a huge part of the game nowadays but it's gone a bit OTT for my liking!

Made up for the lad.

Hats off to Phillips he’s really stepped up to the mark and the lad loves a 50/ 50. The only concern I have with him is he also lives to go for a 60/ 40, 70/ 30 etc when they are not in his favour. The more he plays the more he will learn that sometimes jockeying a player is just as efficient as diving in to win it. But like I said I think he’s doing well. Kabak seems to look better (more come) every game also.

Phillips has proven himself I think and he is in the perfect position to do that. good age, played decent amount of first team footy already and always felt like he was at the right stage of his career to be helpful in our current barren run. Who knows why Klopp took so long to trust him, but am glad he is in the team now and also that Klopp has restored Fab to midfield. midfield is much closer to full strength now so we aren't operating the machine at 1/ 3 capacity.

Someone said on the live chat last night that Phillips’s is like carra and I have to agree. He’s not the most best on the ball but he gives everything.

I agreed with that too Long, think it was Scootinio said that. Just a no nonsense defender who does the job.

He’s a no nonsense defender who’d run through walls of asked. He’s not afraid of a challenge and sticks his head on almost everything that comes into the box. I think he’s a good defender, if his only fault is that he’s a bit limited and basic as a footballer, that’s fine, I can think of many good defenders who were equally as limited footballing ability wise, but were just good at defending, I think he’s got to be given an extension and made one of our centre back choices.

6Times, in that case regarding Phillips basic abilities, you pair him with a more cultured footballer at CB to hide his flaws.
