A better performance today. Feel sorry for Rhys. He shouldn’t be having to play.

Positives: positive passing, better movement, a couple of goals and we didn’t stop playing all game.

Negatives: Pawson was awful, Curtis needs to get his head up, Thiago needs to chill with some of those tackles, we didn’t protect Rhys well enough at times, Alisson made a couple of errors and I don’t think the subs helped - especially Mane.

Hopefully Matip and Hendo back vs Spurs

Any hope remaining for a new CB in the next 7 days or have we given up?

I think the same result as Spurs
They play counter attack too
And we seem to want to press high up an Spurs have pace also

I always wondered why against United or Spurs Liverpool just don’t allow them to come out an have the ball
Liverpool were literally the best at counter attacking.

Fabinho is also costing us goals in defence now. The attack replays well and the defence doesn’t and vice verse. Klopp must be pulling his hair out.

I am sure that Jose will have looked at this game, and laughed, we are there for the taking,
no senior centre back, a young slow defender in, ref always gives us nothing,
we keep on making the same mistakes, replace Son with Rashford, same high line, when we don't have the defence for it,
and why is it when we have a free kick on the left side, that Trent goes over, Robbo will take the free kick, and Trent is way out of position, he could be on the D, he does have a good shot in him .
and why don't we give someone else a go at taking those dangerous free kicks just outside the box,
yes last season Trent went close, this season, they are still looking for the balls,
not having a go at Trent, he must be still suffering from Long C.V., let's give him a rest and he will come back better than ever .

{Ed0666's Note - Are you fu*king trolling or what? We have a team decimated by injuries, two midfielders effectively playing at Centre back or when we do play two recognized Centre backs were handicapped because Williams is so inexperienced and let’s face it inferior it’s like playing one Centre back. There is a lack of confidence throughout the team, hence decision making being labored instead of instinctive which has consequences on movement, chances being made and goals being scored. You’re having a go at Trent for fluffing free kicks? At least he’s big enough to be taking them in his dip in form. We’ve revered and rejoiced at TAA over the last 2-3 seasons so let’s not kick him in the gonads when he’s going through a rough patch. Give TAA rest? And who plays there instead?

Happier with the performance even if we lost, I think Milner’s passion and energy in midfield added something we’ve been missing of late, creating some unpredictability and late runs into the box that created space for others.

I still worry that with Thiago sitting as our deep lying midfielder, he loses almost every aerial battle and he struggles to break down the opposition on counterattacks (like Fabinho used to do so effectively) . We need to get him some support at the base of midfield or bring in a proper CDM and move him forward a touch.

Hopefully with Matip and Hendo back against Tottenham we can give him more physical support.

{Ed0666's Note - or buy a CB and put Fab back in the holding midfielders berth and play Thiago further forward...Genius.

Agree with that Ed. As far as I'm concerned Gini has checked out now. His performances have been getting worse and he seems to have downed tools. A midfield 3 of Henderson, Fabinho and Thiago when we have a fit defence is the way forward. For me that midfield has a bit of everything.

As for this season expectations have been lowered after this run so anything that comes our way is a bonus. We are not suddenly a bad team. We have a world class manager with world class payers but our squad is ravaged with injuries and a lack of confidence. It's not doom and gloom it's a rough patch which all the great teams have had.

Bit harsh on Gini, yes he's been struggling but the whole team has. The bloke has more or less played every minute of every game for both club and country this season. His form has dipped but i don't think its any planned downing of tools, think its just a bad patch as we've never had reason to doubt his character. He's been an absolute warrior for us these last few seasons.
