So Michael Oliver has admitted he made a mistake in not sending Pickford off after wiping VVD out only a few months late! An apology would be nice but can’t change the passed I suppose. Just hope if this happens again that the refs and var have learnt from it.

OP, That whole game was a crap show from top to bottom from an officiating stand point. No wonder many fans thought it was a setup cos how is it possible for the whole officiating crew to screw up that badly and not even know the rules of the game, it seemed.

What made it worse was the PGMOL coming out and telling lies to cover their arsed even tho they knew no one would believe them. Had they just owned up to it, it would have been less painful to bear. As for the apology, not needed cos frankly, I’ve been over it for months now. As for learning from it, one can only hope cos they are still screwing things up.

Get over it, it’s football. Some you win, some you loose.

{Ed025's Note - exactly pegleg, some will always look for excuses as to why their team is not performing, so they will go back in history to look for a reason even if its not a valid one, typical liverpool supporters im afraid, and one of the reasons they have this reputation mate..

at least he admitted he made a mistake. most referees would double down. at least he's man enough to admit it.

That's why in my opinion mr Oliver is still the best ref in the league a d by a country mile.

It is probably ok that Oliver admitted something that we all know but at the same time lad's it won't effect the result and the game is over. So in all honesty lad's who cares.

Bang on barry, not sure why he talked about it again its long been done and we all should have moved on by now.

Pegleg, nowhere is anyone moaning about anything nor is anyone blaming anyone for our sticky patch nor did I look excuses for it.

We are just commenting on what Oliver said so calm down cos the last time I checked, NOBODY was appointed to tell people what they can or cannot comment on in this great forum. Pretty sure you weren’t.

Everybody makes mistakes. Unfortunately for Oliver whatever he gets wrong is scrutinised to a pathetic level, abused and mocked into the bargain. He made a mistake, he admitted it, move on.

{Ed001's Note - that's all very well and good, but he could have admitted it at the time. He deliberately did not do so because then it could have led to an FA charge and been in his record as a black mark against his refereeing. Forget whether Oliver is at fault or not, there is a clear problem with the way the PGMOL are working with referees. They are putting undue pressure on them which means they are afraid to admit mistakes because it means they will be dropped from the big games and earn less.}

Eds25 I would normally agree with your post but am not having this one mate! Am sure VVD will look back to history and wonder why he missed a year of football. And am not looking for excuses at all! like I said an apology would have nice but not expected what do want to happen is to learn from it so it doesn’t happen again.

{Ed025's Note - your looking at it as though pickford meant to do it longthing, it was not premeditated just an accident, he also apologised i believe so i dont know what else you want mate? maybe a local flogging or a few extra points? i think you need to get over yourselves..

10.) 11 Jan 2021
10 Jan 2021 20:20:05
Ed25 that’s why we call you bitters. Always looking for a way to put Liverpool supporters down to make yourselves feel better.
I think you’ll find that all teams have their fair share of these types of supporters. Everton included. The typical Liverpool supporter as far as I can see is the type that supports the team through thick and thin and loves the club. Your bitterness might not let you admit it but it’s true.

{Ed025's Note - i dont always put your supporters down BP, i think you do that perfectly well yourselves mate, calling people bitter for telling the truth is just another facet of your smugness imo, but hey if you can live with that so can i..

The original post was about an officiating error and that the ref Michael Oliver has admitted to getting it wrong on the day.

What’s that got to with making excuses about Liverpool’s current form?

He’s a Liverpool fan, talking about Liverpool on a Liverpool website.

{Ed025's Note - thats fair comment KR, i just dont want to down the road of blaming everton for liverpools dip in form again, it was not a conspiracy by everton and the officials to derail liverpools season mate and we seem to be going over old ground to suit some peoples agenda..

Ed025 it is in the past now but for me that challenge on VVD is what is everything that is wrong with VAR it was an awful challenge and that Pickford never got a ban after it just shows what VAR normally does covers up for the refs mistakes. If Oliver had come out straight away and admitted then he would have got the ban but what makes it worse is they said it was not a sending off challenge and now the top ref in the country says it is. But if truth be told it was not Oliver that made the mistake it was the guy in the Var who could see the replay. I do think that the refs need to be vastly improved in this country.

{Ed025's Note - yes it was a poor challenge grino and i said at the time he should have walked, but this looking to play the blame game is getting beyond a joke and is causing nothing but grief between the two sets of supporters, let sleeping dogs lie and move on i say mate..

I dunno Ed025, something tells me that if we had 2 players who are the best on the planet in the roles they play (VVD and Thiago), we probably would have a good clear gap at the top of the table. Both of them were taking out by horror tackles in one game and VVD certainly is a leader on and off the pitch.

{Ed025's Note - it happens in football john and injuries are just part of the game, but the inference that it was a deliberate ploy by everton and the officials is just not true mate..

Ed025 I agree it’s past now Oliver coming out with that 3 months later help someone nothing my point was more against the officials rather than the challenge. I think if VAR was not here he would have got a ban after the game but because they messed up so badly they just backed up the officials what they seem to do far to much. It’s like VAR’s there’s just to back up very well paid officials. You could all so look at the sheff Utd villa game end of last season that goal was awful or the Man Utd pen against villa when Fernandes should have gone but VAR just backs up a terrible decision.

{Ed025's Note - i think we all agree that VAR is a joke grino, as you say the officials are using it as a crutch and the standards of refereeing are slipping as a result, it needs suspending until it is perfected for me, its costing teams points and that could result in costing teams their status in the top flight mate..

Ed25, once again, no one blamed anyone for anything in the OP’s comments nor my comments. Neither of us even mentioned Pickford, VVD or anyone. Nor did either of us use this incident as an excuse for our sticky patch. You mentioned Pickford and VVD and drew those conclusions on your own do not sure why you are coming hot us, really?

Also, what was this interview supposed to accomplish? What was the goal? To apologise for Oliver’s mistakes 3 months after the fact when everyone already moved on? Why did he not apologise at the time if he had the courage he is being lauded for now? Don’t be fooled, my friend. IMO, all this was orchestrated by design.

IMO, this was a media stunt to rehabilitate Oliver’s battered reputation cos I can bet you a steak dinner that this was a pre-emptive move by him and his PGMOL handlers cos he will possibly be in charge of the Utd game on Sun. They know the pressure he will b under so this was a move to diffuse it a bit, IMO. I could b wrong.

{Ed025's Note - it just seems we are going over old ground oli, whats done is done and i dont want to play this blame game over and over again, we all know oliver got in wrong on the day but we have to move on mate..

16.) 11 Jan 2021
11 Jan 2021 13:42:58
if Pickford had been sent off or not Virgil would still have been out for the season as the tackle still happened. The refs seem to be of substandard in all games really. VAR was supposed to look at clear and obvious errors to stop howlers but they have taken it to micro manage games. we are still in a pretty good position.

17.) 11 Jan 2021
11 Jan 2021 14:59:49
Ed25, if you want us to no longer visit old ground and stuff, you should prolly focus your anger on those who clearly have not moved on from this incident cos they keep reminding us of it every chance they get. And by this, I mean the dreadful media, FA and Oliver himself.

Not one poster on here has mentioned this crap in months. We have moved on do much that we have been top of the table for a few weeks now.

But these guys keep bringing this stuff up and won’t let sleeping dogs lie. Maybe you should go after them instead coming at LFC fans who keep getting traumatised each time they bring it up cos that is the ONLY reason we speak about it. Cheers, mate.

{Ed025's Note - i agree that its fuelled by the media RM and your right on that score, i just dont want these pages spoiled by it coming up everytime there is an injury to a liverpool player mate, we have all moved on i hope my friend..

11 Jan 2021 17:19:03
Ed25 there was an injury to VVD in the Everton, but that could happen in any game, it's just so boring that some Liverpool fans are still going on about it, injuries is unfortunate part of the game.

{Ed025's Note - it really is MR and i thank you for seeing it like that, time to move on mate and let sleeping dogs lie..

I really think that Oliver was the best ref last season, but he is not the same this time, maybe its VAR,
every ref has dropped a level to be fair .

It’s the nature of the beast for the derby though Ed025 surely?
Everton fans used to sing about Jimmy Case for years after his horror tackle.
Can you imagine if Kenny or Ian Rush or someone had been put out for the season by a Toffee?
We’d still be singing and arguing about that 40 years later 🤣
It’s all part of the craic Ed.

{Ed025's Note - im afraid the craic at derby,s is a thing of the past juicer, these days your more likely to get a crack mate.. :)

Or maybe Mighty Reds, the media are the ones going on and on about it and they are the ones that need to move on from this cos they seem to b the only ones reminding us of this incident every chance they get instead. No LFC poster on this forum talks about it anymore.
