I agree Ed. I really want to see the young lads do well and progress, however, RW just looks a little all over the place to me. He gets caught out quite often (we got away with a couple of those moments against Spurs) and Nat Philips just seems a bit calmer all round. Not necessarily saying NP is the long term answer, just that he seems a bit less rash. I don't think Nat would have panicked and headed that ball out for the corner. Easy to say after the event though.

{Ed001's Note - that header was awful for the corner. It all came about because he got himself totally out of position in the first place and got himself in a flap.

Agree with you, Phillips does not look to be the long term answer either, but he does look a better option for right now. The only reason to persevere with Williams is if you do see him as having long term potential, in which case you have to accept these mistakes as part of a learning process. I just don't see that potential in him.}

Any idea why Klopp is picking Williams ahead then? Surely it can’t just be down to the fact he can pass a ball better.

{Ed001's Note - either he thinks Williams has the potential to make it and just needs to play games to develop or he just thought having the better ball player could have helped us pen them back more easily. That's the only thing I can think of. He might have a point with the latter if it wasn't for the fact that Williams was so panicky on the ball for some reason. Normally he is much more composed and would not have just headed it out for a needless corner. In fact, I would have said he was usually a bit too casual and takes too many chances, but yesterday he was jittery. I am not sure why.}

but surely there must be some form of long term future seen by klopp and the coaching staff, as you say if they were both seen as stop gaps for the short term then we would use Phillips.

I am just concerned that there isn't any viable options in the jan transfer window that we can afford in this current situation.

Yeah good points Ed mate. To be honest I need to actually watch the replay back. I didn’t really pay attention to what Williams did with the header as I had my head in my hands from Jones giving it away. It felt like that pass was in slow motion and could see it happening from a long way off. I’m a big fan of Jones but it seems if teams give him time on the ball it causes him to slow down even more and he has too many touches. When he’s pressured he is more reactive. I think it’s similar to Wiji. Whenever he is pressured he’s at his best. When we are coasting in games that’s when he seems to go missing a little. On Hendo he played extremely deep yesterday first half. Most of that half he was in between Matip and Fab.

{Ed001's Note - I think Jones tries too hard to make things happen and ends up forcing things rather than just waiting for the chance to present itself.}

The other possibility with Phillips, Ed, is that he’s getting skinned in training?

{Ed001's Note - I guess. I would doubt that there is a single player in our team that doesn't get skinned in training playing against Mane, Salah and Bobby!}

Jones could shoot more on the edge but I like the fact he runs at players makes people move creats space ect sometimes our midfield is over coached

But the movement was poor yesterday and youth cost us poor by jones and williams for the corner but they will learn no fit senior center halfs and still top is good enough for me the young lads will learn

I would sign another center half as VVD and gomez are out and might not be back when expects with long injuries you can encounter set backs ect and matip is playing well but to injury prone with the sale of lovren we tried to promote youth this season and 4th choice but now its to risky some quick business needed for CB and most of us would be happy we can win the league.
