Seen a video from twitterverse showing virgil doing some pretty intense working out. Even kicking a ball. Should he be progressing so far so soon after surgery? I hope the club aren't rushing anything forward.

its Virg himself that's sent out the video, can you imagine the scenes if he somehow came back in March!

Would like him back for Saturday 20th February.

He is ahead of schedule - do not be surprised if he’s back pre Easter and for the run in.

Ed001, I think it was you that gave the lowdown of what he wouldn’t have to through rehab wise. Not sure if you’ve seen the video but would love to know your thoughts on him kicking a ball, does that put him ahead of schedule or should I temper my expectations a bit?

{Ed001's Note - it is not so much kicking the ball that is the issue. It is learning how to run naturally once more. He has been out 2 months? I think it is about that, so this seems about return for a 6 months return. A lot depends on fitness levels and avoiding picking up niggles as he builds up his fitness to match-ready fitness levels. I would view it as a huge bonus if he was ready to return this season, but it is not completely out of the bounds of possibility as it is clear the surgery went well.}

Just in time for the latter stages of the CL, wonderful!

Obviously a long way to go for him but promising signs. And as football fans, we are meant to get carried away!

Spot on, Ed. Kicking the ball is the easy part. Running naturally and esp football-type running like acceleration, explosiveness, putting pressure on the knee when you stop and start accelerating during drills, is where the knees will be tested.

He is in schedule for a 6 month period and if he can come out of it well, nothing can b ruled out. Great to know and see him doing drills with the ball and weight training. Really warms the fans’ hearts.

{Ed001's Note - then there is the twisting and turning, which will really test matters.}

There's a genuine expert on here in these type of injuries and recovery times, hope he posts his opinion on VVD's progress, his name is a mystery to me unfortunately.

It’s Greggers who knows all the injury and rehab stuff.

At the moment his brain is in full control. on the pitch you just do things naturally without thinking. Getting his body to be able to twist, turn, sprint, stop, jump, land awkwardly is another thing. Id be amazed if he were back this season.

Would be great though.
