Thanks es. Enjoyed reading that. I always forget how good Sturridge was when he stayed fit.

{Ed001's Note - people usually forget how hard he worked as well, he would often track back into the full-back areas to help out.}

Good article Ed!

Sturridge that 13/ 14 season was the best English striker. Real shame he couldn't avoid the countless injuries.

And then that 14/ 15 season we had that horror show that you have in the picture! How the times have improved for us since. Actually makes me feel better about our injury predicament.

Thanks Ed.

{Ed001's Note - I thought that picture would remind people just how bad it could have been.}

To me, D-Studge is the most naturally gifted finisher England has ever produced in well over a generation. When fully fit and firing, he could literally score from anywhere in that final third. Just check his goal vs Seville in that EL final. Kane is nowhere near his level in this regard, IMO.

He was also a very hard worker as well even tho, he got a bad wrap by the LFC fans due to his demeanor on the pitch, mainly fueled by the media, just like they have done to Ozil just to turn the Arsenal fans against him and it worked. Oh and btw, Great read, Ed01. Thanks, as always.

{Ed001's Note - cheers mate.}

I was lucky enough to be going to a lot of the matches during the time of the triple S and the uplift that Sturbridge gave the team when he joined was amazing.
Having said that, Suarez was nigh on unplayable for a couple of seasons.
Fabulous footballer, up there with the best I’ve seen, pity about the other stuff.
The atmosphere at the aways especially was brilliant.

Like to see studge find a new club, any news on that front?

Sturridge is one of them for me, I can't sing his praises like many do. Talented? absolutely, he had it and was a great professional for the club, one I really liked simply because when he was fit he gave 100% every single time but he wasn't as good as people are making out. Sturridge was with us for how many seasons? he had only ONE good season, injuries or no injuries, it's not good enough for Liverpool no matter how you want to look at it. If that was Firmino it'd be a different story, everybody would want him out.

I agree with you Salah 1 good season in 6 years hardly great, Red tinted glasses for me there and to compare him to Harry Kane is ridiculous Sturridge has 20 league in one season once in all his career and double figures only 3 times while Kane while Kane hit 20+ 4 season on the trot and double figures 6 seasons on the trot even with some bad injuries the last few years. I would love ed025 views on this one as an outsider.

As always a good read, must have been hard to put this one together as the teams are world part. Enjoyed this.

{Ed001's Note - it was a fairly difficult comparison. Difficult to know how to compare such completely different sets of players.}

I agree that it’s hard to compare, especially given the strength of the two teams behind those respective front 3s.
On most measures though, you’d probably say the current attack is better.
Interesting to ponder if you could mix the players up?
I reckon if you’d add Suarez to Salah and Mane, you would have the strongest possible combination.

No sturridge had more than one good season. I'd say he had 3, which is a shame as he was top draw on his day.
Ill never forget this chip he scored from outside the area, it was crazy. Had me bouncing all over the place. What a goal.

14.) 19 Nov 2020

His goal record for us was crazy though. Up until 2016/ 17 he was scoring a goal every other game at least for us. Another one to add to the what could have been list.

I disagree with the Kane comparisons as well as Salah. As much as I dislike the bloke I must say he is world class in my eyes and can do almost everything on a football pitch. I'm quite surprised that the likes of Barcelona or Madrid haven't been in for him.

I agree cmatthews. Kane is a world class striker.

16.) 19 Nov 2020
19 Nov 2020 18:31:59
Kane maybe world class and that much is clear but to me, he is nowhere near Studge’s ability as a natural finisher. As world class as Kane is, he does not score that goal vs Seville in the EL final nor does he score that brilliant chip from outside the box vs WBA in that 13/ 14 season.

Those two pieces of brilliance are stuff you simply cannot coach into a player. It is either you have it or you don’t. Kane is a hard worker and you can see that he works on the final touch with the way he shoots. Studge as wells hard worker, just had “it” and did not seem to force things. He made things look easy hence IMO, Kane is not his equal in this regard. N btw, Studge did not have just one good season. Just my opinion.

19 Nov 2020 20:43:27
Agreed RM, sturridge had better natural ability, all day long. Kane is z tidy finisher though. He's never going to score the type of goals you mentioned.

{Ed025's Note - come on boys get a grip, you cant honestly be saying sturridge should ever be put in the same bracket as harry kane are you?, harry is superior to him in every department..by a country mile, sturridge had 1 good season when he was the foil for the cannibal and thats it, rinsed liverpool out of millions playing the old soldier when pretending to be injured but sunning himself in LA while liverpool were playing at st james,s park in november i remember, will never be remembered as anything but a layabout with average ability im afraid..

18.) 20 Nov 2020
19 Nov 2020 22:47:22
Not in natural ability ed025. And that's probably part of the problem. Players who haved that ultra natural gift sometimes don't put in the effort required.
Kane is a fantastic player, a dick, but world class striker. Deadly in the box. But he doesn't hg Ave ds imagination or dribbling ability.

I didntf say ds was better by the way. I called kane world class, I've not said that about sturridge.

20 Nov 2020 04:36:55
Ed25, I agree with you.

I love Studger. But Kane will go down as one of England’s best ever striker and rightly so. It’s clear we are biased if we say Sturridge is better than Kane. Sturridge is not, but I still love him!

{Ed025's Note - he is one of your own krishna and i get that, i think suarez helped him immensely and at the end he was just taking the piss but hes not the first one to do that mate and wont be the last..

20 Nov 2020 17:20:41
Have to agree with Ed025 here. Sturridge isn't and never was in the same league as Harry Kane. Kane is better in all areas than DS.
