My thoughts about tonight’s game:

Not the best performance by any stretch of the imagination but once again we managed to pull through and get the win. Very scrappy game and a game of few chances for either side but West Ham have been in decent form of late so it’s a banana skin avoided!

I absolutely love firmino but I really think he needs a few games out of the side, I’m not sure whether he’s tired because of the lack of pre season or he’s low in confidence but his game isn’t there right now but hopefully a few games on the bench and a rest will get him back to where he needs to be.

Jota looks like another very shrewd signing for Liverpool and Klopp. Looks brimming with confidence and didn’t let the disallowed goal get to him and managed to get the winner with a beautifully taken goal.

I think tonight has cemented it JK. Jota deserves Firminos place at the minute, surely he’s got to have forced his way in, he can’t really do much more! Give him a couple of starts and see if he takes his chance.

While I acknowledge Firmino has not made the impact that we have all come to expect from him I do feel that his lack of influence stems from a change in the teams approach of late. We seemed to be playing slower in general. Clearly tonight the tactic was to lay the ball back and play the ball in from deep to catch the defence stepping up. Firmino is at his best as we play through teams. With the subs and as West Ham tired the direction from the bench seemed to move toward pace through the middle. Shaq in the 10 role looked great. Exiting tired defenders. Optio s. It is all good!
