What do you make of Hamilton Ed001. GOAT or just lucky he got the best car?

{Ed001's Note - it is part of his skill, similar to Schumacher, that he helps develop the car, so it is not luck. Difficult to consider him the GOAT when the cars are so much easier to drive than they were in the past. But they do have to drive at much higher speeds. He certainly deserves to be in the conversation, and is the best of the modern era for sure.}

Nice review Ed

I’m not so sure the drivers would be too enamoured with the sprinklers suggesting, but that would be a great watch throwing that in the mix.

Hamilton is a supremely talented driver, but it’s difficult to name the best ever with the sport changing so much over time.

My 2 favourite races I can remember are Jenson button from last to 1st after pitting I think 6 times during the course of the race, and in particular the way he frightened the life out of Vettel, forcing him into a big mistake to take the lead before victory, and Hamilton’s 5th place to secure his 1st title in awful weather conditions, when Massa and the Ferrari team thought victory was their’s. when they realised Hamilton had snatched it from them, there was a shot of a Ferrari mechanic in full regalia, running full pelt through the garage and head butting the wall. that was hilarious 😂

They we’re 2 great drives for me, but my favourite drivers since watching from about 1976 onwards is split between most charismatic - James Hunt / most exciting racer in Nigel Mansell.

{Ed001's Note - it was Eccleston who suggested the sprinklers.

As for drivers, I am glad you didn't get those 2 mixed up as Mansell was possibly the least charismatic ever. When they tried to make a This Is Your Life on him, they could only get one racing driver to agree to appear. It was Stirling Moss and even he wouldn't say anything about Mansel as a person, so they scrapped it.}

Cheers for response Ed001. I really dislike the guy on a personal level rather than as a sportsman. He claims to be a huge supporter of The Environment and Anti-Racism but then moved away to dodge taxes on his already abhorrent salary that makes footballers look poor. Taxes that might have actually helped towards change.

Unfortunately he probably is the greatest F1 driver of his generation and probably the greatest British Sportsman of his era. I sometimes pretend darts is a sport just so i can say Phil Taylor when that debate comes up!

So Ed, I take it Mansell doesn’t make it round to your place as one of your 4 wish-list dinner guests. that could be an interesting post, but maybe for another day.

{Ed001's Note - defo not. Great driver though.}

Scott Dixon won his 6th IndyCar title, must be the goat of American open wheel racing surely?

The guys an absolute tool, good job I find F1 boring as I’d hate watching him.

I enjoyed the race. I do think Lewis now plays with bottas. I wasn’t sure before but now am convinced! Only thing from yesterday the DRS was way to powerful. It should have been shorter.

Wonder why all the hate? His skin colour or because he actually has an opinion about stuff? Or maybe he just calls racists out and some don’t like it?

Trudie - you mean the race where Massa would have won the championship but hamiltons friend in the car infront intentionally slowed down to let him overtake at the end of the last lap? That's the day I lost all respect for him. Applaud cheating all you like.
