Glad I'm not the only one who is questioning vvd. I wonder if the boys were up all night playing the new fifa? And that diagonal ball is getting predictable.

Cheers Ed.

My theory is that all pro footballers can play, it's just some can do it on front of 40000 hostile fans and some can't. Without the fans the playing field is levelled. What do ya think ed01?

{Ed001's Note - very much so. The backing of fans from the bigger supported clubs is a major plus.}

Must have been horrible doing this Teis, did you watch the match again? Not sure I could have, well written though, we were awful, apart from Jota, Robertson and Salah and as I said on the Villa page it coulda been more. They thoroughly deserved it and fair play to them, hopefully we are better for the derby and Tiago and Hendo and Mane are back too.

{Ed001's Note - no mate, I haven't had time to sit through it again with it being deadline day and the sites insanely busy.}

Telling as well that the majority of the noise from the pitch was from the Villa players, they were clearly up for it.
I think all 3 deflections killed off any remote chance of us getting any momentum going and, in the end, the Liverpool players more or less packed it in.
It happens, in any team dynamic.
It what happens next that matters now though.

Ed1, you always deliver on reviews but this one especially.
Thought it was as calm and to the point as a review should be after jush a sh**sh*w.
I certainly would have ended up with a 2:1 swear words to nine swear words ratio!
Very bug well done to you sir!

{Ed001's Note - cheers mate, it did take a lot of counting to 10!}

Thanks Ed! Don't envy you having to watch that game over.

Do you think klopp is now going to dump Keita? It's baffling to me that he keeps getting picked.

{Ed001's Note - I expect Thiago will pretty much replace him when he is ready.}

Very interesting Ed and in a weird way it's good to read about the positives, although there weren't many, there was a few. This Jones lad is quite exciting isn't he? Everytime I see him play I think 'he should be a starter'. We don't know who will be fit for the game against Everton just yet but if he's fit, I want Jones on that starting line up, he's trying to make a name for himself and putting everything in, it's players like that who I want to see playing, especially when we're against Everton! if we start Keita I'll be bricking it.

Gutted we have this international break to wait and find out, what a pile of sh*te! anyway cheers Ed.

{Ed001's Note - I really hope Henderson is fit.}

Great read as always, Ed01. I have made the same point before regarding Adrian. We need to stop playing as if we have Alisson in goal. Normally, I do not like us passing the ball to the GK too much BUT with a GK who is error prone and poor with his feet, we either need to bin that idea for now or simply ask him to boot the ball up the pitch rather than pass out the back cos he is horrible at it. VVD needs to up his game as well cos if rival fans can see his arrogance and drop-off in performances, the managers can see it too and will start getting at him a bit more.

As for the midfield, we had no chance against a Villa midfield filled with energy and determination with the way our midfield were playing with no passion, zest nor fight at all. All 3 of them were poor. We are going to have to regroup and with an int'l break, it is not ideal for preparing a derby game that will be VERY intense.

Time to stick together and circle the wagons cos it is only going to get harder moving forward with Allison out and Mane and Thiago being ill. Just happy that Hendo should be fit cos heaven knows we need his leadership vs Everton.

{Ed001's Note - Hendo and Milner need to play I think.}

Salah I think Jones has massive potential mate but I think his current weakness is game management and decision making in games with tougher opposition. Sometimes he tries things that aren’t on and doesn’t take the easier option. However the only way I suppose he’s going to get better at that is game time and exposure. If he starts you won’t see me moaning. However I think it’ll be Fab, Hendo and Thiago to play against Everton. That’s if hendo can come through the next 3 internationals unscathed.

With you there, Ed01. We need guys to get stuck into the derby at full pelt esp. in midfield and we cannot be having guys ducking out of challenges and not interested in putting a shift in.

{Ed001's Note - exactly, it is too important to play weaklings.}

Thanks eds Been waiting for this all day. I said the same thing in the live chat yesterday about VVD. Am actually more disappointed in him than any other player if am honest . I thought he would one day be the perfect captain but unfortunately am wrong. When the going get tough he went missing. Any way enough of the negatives. Positive thoughts from now on.

{Ed001's Note - very welcome mate.}

Thanks ED001, I really enjoyed your breakdown and perspective. Nothing you said that I disagreed with. I really liked your point about Adrian in that the team have to stop thinking he is Alisson. I think you are right. Everyone was critical of Adrian (me included) but a good team should know the strengths and weaknesses of each team member so that they can deal with a situation effectively. Let's also not forget AB is probably the Number 1 GK in the world and makes things look easy. However, the experienced team and in particular the defence should be helping him and not putting him into situations he may find uncomfortable.

{Ed001's Note - exactly mate. It is a team game and they need to work with what they have. No player is perfect, you always have to adjust things to suit, such as which foot to pass the ball too. This is just another adjustment that should be made.}

Thanks for the medicine Ed, feeling a bit better 😂 - great read as ever.

Was a really disheartening watch. I can forgive mistakes fairly easily, but I can't get behind not giving 100% for the team. The loss was not the issue, Villa were great, but what I saw as a total lack of effort from most of the players was difficult to stomach.

I hope Klopp is right when he says the squad are self-critical, they need to be with such a small window between them returning and Everton.

{Ed001's Note - cheers mate.}

Great review Ed 001.,

Few positives I got from the game:
- What a professional we have in Robbo! No hiding whatsoever
- Jones can and should start games. Looks up for it as I’ve mentioned previously. He should be getting at least 3-5 starts this season
- Salah looks sharper than what he looked at times last season. Seems to have dropped a little deeper with regards to his starting positions and now running at defenders. This suits him really well compared to previous 2 seasons when he received the balls a lot with back against goal
- Like the look of Jota. Looks very malleable. He’s going to be really handy for us

Few concerns:
- VVD and Keita - you’ve covered it all
- Leadership - Without Hendo and Milner I’m struggling to see where this will come from if both are unavailable
- Bobby’s form - Bobby seems to be involved in most of our successful attacks. But his retention, pass and finishing of late has been worrisome. Hopefully he grows into the season.

{Ed001's Note - thank you mate, fully agree with you.}
